An’an quickly said.
"That’s good!"
Xu Lin patted their little heads.
Four or five-year-old children, not very tall, not very big, each sitting on Xu Lin’s leg. Xu Lin sat on the sofa giving them gummies, while Suisui was holding a Kakarot figurine in one hand and a Porsche toy car in the other, and An’an was holding a doll. They both loved these gifts dearly.
For the next half an hour or so, Xu Lin was in the living room playing with the children and finally got familiar with them. They happily called him brother-in-law.
As for Ning Yuhuan and Wu Xiulin, they had gone out to buy groceries.
Now that Xu Lin had co over, Wu Xiulin said she wanted to make a good al.
About an hour later, the mother and daughter returned.
"Brother-in-law, mom and sister are back!"
An’an exclaid.
Suisui said, "Brother-in-law, my mom cooks really well!"
"Really?"
"Yes, mom’s cooking is so delicious!"
"Then brother-in-law is looking forward to it!"
Xu Lin saw Wu Xiulin start getting busy in the kitchen and went in, "Auntie, do you need any help?"
"No need, no need, Lin, you rest outside. Driving so long must be tiring, right?"
"It’s okay, how about I wash so vegetables?"
"Sure, Lin can help wash the vegetables, nothing else needs your help."
"Alright."
Xu Lin helped wash the vegetables, which was quite simple, just so greens and at, a quick rinse would do.
Xu Lin then left the kitchen.
"Brother-in-law, have a lollipop!"
An’an ca over with a lollipop Xu Lin had bought, "Brother-in-law, I unwrapped the candy!"
"An’an is so good!"
Xu Lin took the lollipop.
"Senior, where’s your room?"
"Here!"
Ning Yuhuan led Xu Lin into the room, which was nothing special, not a princess room. After all, Ning Yuhuan was not delicate.
"Brother-in-law, check out our room!"
Suisui and An’an, holding hands, pulled Xu Lin along.
"Then brother-in-law will see Suisui and An’an’s room!"
Xu Lin followed them into another room.
Ning Yuhuan’s place was three bedrooms and a living room. Suisui and An’an shared one room with two beds, each their own.
Once in the room, the siblings took off their shoes and jumped on their beds, arguing about whose bed it was and wanting brother-in-law to sleep with them tonight.
Xu Lin and Ning Yuhuan couldn’t help but laugh.
Soon it was dinner ti.
The al was sumptuous, four dishes and a soup, all ho-cooked. As the siblings had said, Wu Xiulin’s cooking skills were excellent. Xu Lin originally thought Ning Yuhuan’s cooking was good, but Wu Xiulin’s skills were even better.
"Auntie, your cooking is amazing!"
"Eat more if you like it!"
Wu Xiulin was very happy. Her son-in-law was handso, tall and strong, with a great spirit and so polite. It was hard not to like him.
"Thank you, Auntie!"
"Eat more."
Beside him, Ning Yuhuan also served Xu Lin so food.
That al ended amidst laughter and conversation.
Once they were full and satisfied.
Xu Lin said he wanted to take a walk downstairs, and Suisui and An’an also wanted to follow.
So Xu Lin carried the siblings, and along with Ning Yuhuan, went downstairs.
The neighborhood was quite busy.
Since Ning Yuhuan and her family had been living here for many years, many people in the neighborhood knew her.
"Hanhan, back ho for vacation?"
"Auntie, just got back today!"
"Hanhan, is this your boyfriend?"
"Auntie, this is our brother-in-law!"
Before Ning Yuhuan could answer, An’an had already responded.
Ning Yuhuan also smiled and said, "Auntie, this is my boyfriend!"
"Such a handso young man!"
"Hello, Auntie!"
Xu Lin also greeted the person warmly.
"Yuhuan, bringing the young man ho, huh?"
A Cantonese-speaking elderly person approached, looking at Xu Lin in surprise.
Ning Yuhuan also replied in Cantonese, "Grandpa, he’s my boyfriend!"
"Hello, Grandpa!"
Xu Lin also said sothing in Cantonese, as his maternal grandfather’s ho was also in Eastern Guangdong Province, and speaking Cantonese in the Guangdong and Guangxi regions was normal.
"Where are you from?"
Xu Lin gave his address, explaining that his maternal grandfather was from the Eastern Guangdong region and that he spoke Cantonese, which made the person realize.
They chatted for a while, and Xu Lin and the others continued strolling around the neighborhood, eting quite a few people and saying plenty of hellos.
So spoke Mandarin, and so spoke Cantonese, especially the elderly, who mostly spoke Cantonese. If you spoke Mandarin to them, they wouldn’t understand.
"This neighborhood seems quite friendly."
Xu Lin said with a smile.
Ning Yuhuan nodded, "Yeah, it’s pretty nice, and everyone has been neighbors for a long ti. So have lived here for over ten years."
Xu Lin suggested, "How about we take a walk outside the neighborhood?"
"Let’s go for a walk!"
But upon thinking about it, Xu Lin decided it would be better to explore around the town.
Of course, this couldn’t just be done on foot.
Xu Lin asked Ning Yuhuan to wait with Suisui and An’an at the entrance of the neighborhood while he went to the underground parking to get the car.
"Hop in!"
Once Xu Lin drove out, he parked the car in front of Ning Yuhuan and the kids.
Because Ning Yuhuan needed to look after the two kids, they sat in the back seat.
"Wow, brother-in-law has a big car!"
Once in the car, Suisui and An’an curiously looked around inside.
Despite the fact that Ning Yuhuan’s family had a house in the town, they didn’t own a car. One reason was considering Ning Yuhuan still had to attend school. Although Ning Yuhuan didn’t need money from her family, in case she needed it in the future.
More importantly, the younger siblings would be starting elentary school next year, both of them, which would be a huge expense. A big purchase like a car just couldn’t be considered.
