Now reading: Chapter 57: It’s the Sun’s fault, I promise! from System Mission: Seduce the Final Boss [BL], a Yaoi novel by Ninishe.

Blake tilted his head a little, watching Myles like he was actually expecting an excited yes to co out of his mouth.

But there was nothing, no response.

’Okay... maybe that was too much,’ Blake thought, scratching the inside of his cheek with his tongue. ’Maybe I did jump straight into let’s wear animal ears together a little too fast. Normal people probably start with like... walking around and stuff.’

Myles just stared at him, at least he didn’t look annoyed.

The thing is that it would’ve been ideal to see him excited, maybe even cracking a smile.

Blake shifted his weight from one foot to the other. "So...?" he tried again, dragging the word out just a bit, like maybe it would magically pull an answer out of Myles.

But he really was stubborn.

’Oh my god, he must hate now or sothing. Jokes aside, is he offended or? I think I’m about to get disowned and we’re not even related.’

Blake exhaled sharply, throwing his hands up a little. "You know what? Fine! Even if you don’t want to, I’m still gonna wear one. So if you don’t want to, be it!"

There, the decision made very maturely.

’Yeah, that showed him. I think. Maybe. I don’t actually know what I showed him.’

Because honestly, Blake had a point.

Compromising was a thing, a real thing that Myles needed to learn, sooner or later, especially if he had to renounce destroying the world.

’You can’t just exist and not participate in cute things,’ Blake thought firmly. ’Co on man, throw away your pride!’

With that, he turned and marched straight into the store, as a man on a mission, of course.

A slightly confused mission.

But still a mission.

The inside of the shop was bright and colorful and overwhelming.

There were ears everywhere.

Ears on shelves.

Ears hanging.

Ears on the cashier.

’Oh no. I didn’t think this through.’

Blake slowed down imdiately, eyes darting from one display to another. ’Okay, okay, this is already too much. I have to be careful.’

He was going to wear this all day.

All. Day.

"It has to be cute," he whispered to himself.

Obviously, but also, at the sa ti...

’It has to suit .’

Which was a problem.

Because what even was supposed to suit him?

Blake crouched down to look at a lower shelf, scanning through a row of headbands.

"Oh, these are nice..." he paused.

Then squinted.

Then leaned closer.

"...why are they this expensive?" he whispered in horror.

They were masked-thed and everything, so park-exclusive.

’Of course they’re expensive. They have little branding smiles on them. That probably adds like ten pyollar.’

Blake sighed dramatically, rubbing his face. "This is daylight robbery, for real."

He stood up, and imdiately bonked straight into soone.

"Ow!"

Chest, it was a chest.

A very familiar one, too.

Blake blinked, stepping back quickly.

Myles was standing there again.

’When did he get here?! Does he teleport?!’

Before Blake could even say anything, Myles reached over calmly, picked sothing off the shelf, and placed it on Blake’s head.

Blake froze.

"What did you just?"

He turned towards the mirror, looking at himself.

Jaguar ears.

Soft.

Golden.

With little dark spots.

Blake’s eyes widened.

"Oh."

He stepped closer to the mirror.

"They’re... so really cute," he said quietly.

They matched his hair, his eyes, basically everything.

’Wait, why do I look so good? This feels suspicious.’

He scratched the back of his head, a little flustered. "Okay, but listen," he said, turning to Myles quickly. "You can’t back out now."

Very important rule!

"Because you walked into the store. With your own two feet."

It was truly an unbeatable logic.

"So that ans you’re participating. That’s how it works."

Myles said nothing again.

But Blake decided that silence ant agreent.

’Yeah. Now this definitely agreent. I choose to believe that.’

Blake turned away, walking toward another shelf, more energized now.

"There are so many options," he muttered, scanning through them.

Bunny ears.

’No. Too soft on soone with such a face.’

Dog ears.

’Absolutely not. Too cute on soone who can’t even crack a smile, let alone a bark.’

Fox.

’Tempting... but no, I think he would actually refuse.’

He kept going.

Then, he stopped.

"...oh."

Black cat ears. They looked simple, sleek and absolutely perfect.

Blake grabbed them imdiately, turning around with a grin. "These! These are the ones."

He walked back over to Myles, holding them up proudly.

Myles didn’t react much, but he did sothing unexpected.

He lowered his head slightly, just enough for Blake to touch it without any effort.

’Wait, does he want to...’

Oh.

Oh.

’He wants to put them on him!’

Blake straightened a little, suddenly feeling weirdly important.

"Alright," he said, trying to sound casual and not like his heart just did a small jump.

He carefully stepped closer.

He placed the headband on Myles’ head and adjusted it, fixing his hair a little.

Moved a strand out of place.

Then another.

’Why am I taking this so seriously? It’s ears. They go on the head. Done, just like that.’

But still, he made sure it looked right.

"Okay..." Blake murmured, holding Myles’ head lightly in place.

"...done."

He didn’t move his hands right away.

Which eas a mistake, because Myles slowly lifted his head.

And suddenly, their faces were a bit too close.

Myles looked straight at him. "How do I look?"

Blake froze, his brain stopped producing any information for a few embarrassing seconds.

"You look..."

What even was a complint that didn’t sound really cheesy?

"Uh, mirror," he said quickly, stepping back. "Look in the mirror. I’m gonna pay. I’m paying now."

He coughed slightly.

’That was not smooth at all.’

Blake turned and walked, no, speed-walked, to the counter, gripping the ears he was buying a little too tightly.

His face felt hot.

’Why is it hot? It’s not even as warm as it is outside in here. Am I dying? Is this how it ends? In a souvenir shop?’

He placed the items on the counter, trying very hard to look like a normal human being.

Myles appeared beside him, also paying.

’He moves like a ghost. A very tall, emotionally confusing ghost. Fitting of a final boss, of course, but I’m getting too many heart attacks.’

A few monts later, they stepped out of the shop.

Next stop of the date was the café.

Blake imdiately perked up as they approached it. "Oh, it looks really cute."

Soft colors.

Little decorations.

It was obvious that it was ant to sell sweets.

’I approve,’ Blake nodded.

They went inside and found a table, sitting down.

Blake leaned back slightly, looking around with interest.

’Okay, yeah. This place is a win. We chose well. I especially deserve praise for this.’

A waiter ca over, handing them nus.

Blake took his imdiately, already scanning through it like he had a purpose in life.

"Oh, chocolate crepes," he said almost instantly. "Yes. Absolutely yes."

And juice, because balance was important.

He looked up at Myles. "What about you?"

Myles was staring at the nu.

Like it had confused him in so way.

’Does he not know what food is? Has he never eaten before? Is this his first ti seeing a nu?’

Blake leaned over slightly. "Okay, listen," he said, pointing lightly at the nu.

"These," he tapped one option, "the peanut butter cookies are not too sweet, since they are topped with flaky sea salt and chewy cereal bars."

Now, that was a very technical explanation.

"Or," he moved his finger, "chocolate covered pretzels. Also solid choice."

He leaned back again. "So. Those are one of the safe options if you don’t like sweets."

Myles looked at the nu a bit longer.

Then, finally, "The first one."

Blake nodded approvingly. "Good choice."

"And water."

Blake blinked.

"...just water?"

Myles nodded.

’He really is just... like this.’

The waiter ca back, taking their order without issue.

And just like that, they were sitting, waiting.

Blake leaned back slightly, squinting as sunlight stread in through the window.

"Ugh," he muttered, lifting a hand to shield his eyes a bit.

He adjusted slightly, trying to find a better angle.

Then, he felt it.

That feeling.

Being looked at.

Blake lowered his hand just a little.

Myles was watching him again with those eyes of his.

’Why does he look at like that? What does that even an? Is he judging ? Is he analyzing ? Is he planning sothing?’

He shifted in his seat slightly, then looked away, then back at him.

Blake swallowed lightly.

’This is weird. This is definitely weird. Why do I feel like this, ugh!’

He stopped mid-thought, because the thought itself was ridiculous.

’I want to hold them. Man, I’m getting weird, just like him.’

Blake squinted slightly at Myles.

’Those eyes are really...’

He quickly covered his face again, groaning softly.

"Why is the sun so aggressive today," he muttered.
