Clentine and Franklin managed to make it to the top floor; they were surprised that the zombies weren’t exhibiting the traits that they had shown earlier.
"Where is it?" Clentine asked and Franklin’s eyes darted around the empty room, the hospital was a lot worse than they had anticipated.
Franklin noticed that this place was barricaded, they probably made their last stance here; judging from the state of the corpses.
A majority had taken their lives but this was to be expected, there was no avoiding it.
"We should have taken one of them with us," Franklin said but Clentine shook her head.
"What if they changed their mind once we got close? What if they put a bullet in the back of our head when we turned around?" Clentine asked and Franklin agreed with her.
"You’re right," Franklin responded before his eyes caught a glimpse of sothing that looked out of place.
Franklin didn’t say a word to Clentine and just walked in that direction, Clentine’s eyes following him.
Franklin reached for what looked like a doorknob and began to tussle with it but it didn’t bulge.
"What’s wrong?" Clentine asked but Franklin was focused on his task, he hit the door until it eventually gave in.
"Jackpot," Franklin said to which Clentine rushed to the door to see what it was that was behind it.
The relief on her face was evident but once again, there were corpses here of people that had killed themselves.
This was sad but now it was a common sight in this world, dead bodies that weren’t reanimated were even a sight that brought relief.
"Pack everything!" Clentine said, the urgency in her voice clear but the tone was unnecessarily aggressive.
"You need to calm down, Clentine," Franklin said.
He understood that she wanted to pack these things and go to Jason as soon as possible but they had to do things right otherwise they risked butchering it.
Jason knew the risk of his decision, he knew that things wouldn’t be easy yet he made that decision regardless.
They had to trust him and focus on their own task but Franklin knew that the chances of Jason surviving were close to zero, if not zero.
But he didn’t want to crush Clentine’s spirit and this was why he kept his mouth shut.
"You were in the military, weren’t you?" Franklin asked out of the blue but Clentine didn’t mind the question.
"That is correct but I haven’t been deployed yet. You must have noticed it but you have nothing to worry about..." Clentine said and Franklin sighed with a smile on his face.
"I’m relieved," Franklin said and Clentine was eager to know what was going through his head.
"Relieved?" Clentine asked to which the man nodded before his lips parted.
"I feel safer knowing your background but I’m also relieved you didn’t lie to my face," Franklin said and Clentine understood where he was coming from.
There was no point lying because he only asked these questions because he knew the answer to them.
"We need to get to Jason," Clentine said but this was where Franklin had to drop his two cents.
"Jason will be fine, he knew what he was doing when he told us to go ahead. He believed we would get the job done so you have to believe that he will keep himself alive," Franklin said as they kept packing the drugs in the hospital.
They were surprised that they had access to morphine among other high-end drugs.
This place has never been raided or touched so the hospital was well stocked.
They had to be extra careful not to damage anything for wastage couldn’t be tolerated.
"You’re right," Clentine agreed with Franklin and the man was glad she did.
If Jason was dead, going down there now would make no difference, he wasn’t about to risk it.
"Now, let’s focus here," Franklin said to which Clentine’s full concentration was given to the task at hand.
-
Jason was standing in the room, covered from head to toe in zombie blood with decapitated and shattered heads lying around him.
Jason had slaughtered every zombie that had made it into the room and he wasn’t even out of breath. He just stood there, his eyes looked dead as he walked over the heap of corpses in his path.
The zombies in the hallway were wandering and Jason was glad that he didn’t need to kill even more but he was getting worried about the newfound strength he had.
He couldn’t control it because a single slap was enough to take off his head.
Jason walked and walked but he could feel sothing in his body being drawn sowhere.
[Fragnt detected!]
He saw a prompt and the map began to beep, Jason was surprised by how close it was and why Chronos didn’t inform him of it.
Jason knew he had to find this fragnt or things could potentially go dire, Jason had the power to defend himself but he was sure that Clentine and Franklin might beco casualties.
Jason had to retrieve the fragnt but the fact that he didn’t know what it would do to him.
This was why the zombies were wandering and barely paying attention to him, he had consud the fragnt so the concentration was a lot lower as opposed to an untouched fragnt.
[The fragnt will assist in powering you up, the usage of EXP has beco obsolete in levelling up but it can be used to purchase skills.]
Jason was inford, that he didn’t even need to think anymore, everything ca to him like it was second nature to him.
Jason also didn’t need to worry about it keeping anything from either and the peace of mind that ca with this was overwhelming.
He expected such an effect considering what consuming one had done to him but Jason was worried that his body might not be able to handle the power that ca with the fragnt.
"I see," Jason muttered and he began to walk right through the horde because this was important but part of him was worried about what was going up upstairs.
[EXP resetted upon consuming the fragnt.]
The system inford Jason and he didn’t look surprised by this considering the massive boost that ca with it.
Jason wondered if it would give him another 20 to all stats and if he could see the stats of Sam should they et again because there was no way that Sam should be as strong as him.
He could decapitate a zombie with a slap, Sam was strong but he could never be this strong.
Jason walked into a room and noticed that the fragnt was nowhere to be seen.
He looked at his map to confirm he was in the right place and there was no doubt that he was, so what was going on?
Jason realized that the fragnt was moving but he couldn’t see anything and then it hit him.
"Above!?" Jason exclaid and he was right, it was right where Clentine and Franklin were.
-
Clentine and Franklin were done with packing the dicine, they had a full bag but they also took so basic dical tools that would co in handy in the future.
Clentine was glad that she stuck to the plan and realized that Franklin was a lot more composed than she gave him credit for but that could be because he didn’t know Jason.
He was a man that wouldn’t jeopardize a mission regardless and she was hoping that he knew how important Jason could be.
"That should be it," Franklin said and he couldn’t believe that there was this much but it was a good choice that they ca here themselves because now they could cart away so drugs for themselves.
This already guaranteed that they wouldn’t go back empty-handed, he began to wonder how the other team was doing but they should be fine considering that they had Debra there.
Debra was taken due to her exploits with Jason, this gave her a certain degree of respect within the community even though it was false.
Franklin and Clentine decided to go back down because they were done with raiding this place.
They were in the hallway and since they had been on this floor, they hadn’t heard anything.
But that was about to change as they heard sothing in one of the rooms just past the stairs that would take them to the lower floors.
The elevators were out of commission so they couldn’t just zap down unfortunately so there was no way to escape that door.
Clentine put a finger above her lips and Franklin steadied himself because he was the one with the bags.
Clentine moved to the door, tiptoeing so as not to give away her position, she assud it was a zombie that was stuck in the room so it should be easy to eliminate.
However, she didn’t take into account what could potentially happen and that was the zombie she was about to face was anything but normal.
