Warden Hayes, known for her iron control over the Lexington Correctional Facility, was sitting at her office computer, finalizing quarterly budget projections. The silence was absolute, broken only by the soft tap-tap-tap of the keys.

Suddenly, the heavy, oak door of her office was violently thrown open. Two uniford guards outside were instantly immobilized against the wall. A tall, older man with close-cropped silver hair and an impeccably tailored dark suit strode into the room, followed by two severe-looking agents.

"Warden Hayes," the man said, his voice a low, commanding baritone. "I am Inspector General Marcus Thorne."

Thorne slid a thick, embossed federal docunt across the polished mahogany desk.

"My na doesn’t matter," Thorne said. "What matters is this Federal Mandate for Non-Custodial Surrender. It officially requests that you present no resistance and surrender yourself. You will be escorted for an imdiate, unscheduled federal audit. Mr. Brown, the Lead Prosecutor, is already en route. I trust you will offer no resistance."

Hayes did not flinch. She simply extended both hands onto the desk, palms up.

"I am ready to cooperate," Hayes said.

Thorne offered a slight, dry smile. "This is not a formal arrest, Warden. Not yet. If this audit clears you, we return you intact. If not..." He let the silence finish the sentence. "I am not going to treat you like a criminal."

Hayes stood up, her movents smooth and deliberate. She opened her desk drawer, pulled out her standard-issue sidearm, and placed it on the table.

"Here is my official service weapon," Hayes said. "We can leave now."

"Accompany ," Thorne said.

She was escorted to an unmarked black SUV and driven to a secure, secretive location. They led her deep underground, navigating a maze of reinforced corridors until they reached a small, windowless chamber.

"Welco to the Special Interrogation Center for High-Level Personnel," Inspector Thorne said, taking the chair opposite her. He opened a thick file.

"Because this is a Federal Integrity Audit and not a civilian criminal proceeding, you are subject to specific regulations," Thorne said. "For instance, you do not have the right to legal counsel present at this initial inquiry, nor do you have the right to external communication. This is to prevent security leaks."

He began reading the charges from the file: "Malfeasance and Misappropriation of Federal Funds, Preferential Treatnt to Inmates, Moral Turpitude, Acceptance of Undisclosed Monetary Gratifications, and the Manipulation of Official Police Reports."

"May I know who the accuser is?" Hayes asked.

"Legally, no," Thorne said. He leaned forward. "But unofficially? An idiotic congressman with a vendetta."

"I see. Thank you," Hayes said.

"Now, I would like to formally comnce this interrogation," Thorne said. "I remind you that everything you say will be considered an Official Sworn Statent. If you are not entirely sure of your words, I recomnd you do not answer, to avoid self-incrimination."

He pressed the record button on a small audio recorder. A tiny red light appeared. Thorne offered her a warm, yet calculating, smile.

"Now, let us begin, Warden Hayes," Thorne said.

"Very well," Hayes said.

Thorne leaned back slightly, adopting a neutral posture, and consulted the file.

"Warden Hayes, let us address the charges of Moral Turpitude and Conduct Detrintal to the Integrity of a Federal Correctional Officer within the Lexington Correctional Facility," Thorne said, his voice even. "We have received sworn affidavits alleging multiple instances of inappropriate sexual conduct, including, but not limited to, using your private office for intimate encounters with subordinate staff mbers and accepting ’favors’ from certain inmates in exchange for privileges."

Hayes, known across the facility as the Iron Lady for her unwavering discipline, didn’t even blink at the outrageous accusation.

"Those claims are entirely false and libelous," Hayes said, her voice steady and controlled. "I uphold the highest standards of professional conduct and discipline at Lexington. Any suggestion otherwise is a pathetic attempt to sar my record. I demand to see the affidavits and cross-reference them with the employnt records of the alleged staff mbers. I am confident you will find them to be disgruntled subordinates or fabrication."

Thorne made a note on his pad, his smile fading slightly as her refusal was so imdiate and calm. He quickly moved to the main focus of the audit.

"We will return to the matter of staff conduct later, Warden," Thorne said. "Now, let us address the most serious charge: your alleged involvent in the Attack on the Transfer Convoy yesterday."

The air in the small room imdiately tightened. This was the core issue, the reason for the federal mandate.

"Warden Hayes," Thorne continued, his voice now sharp and devoid of casualness. "You are formally accused of facilitating, or at least enabling through negligence, the terrorist attack on the transfer convoy en route from Lexington to Oakwood Prison yesterday, which resulted in the loss of federal assets and the escape of high-value inmates."

Thorne picked up a stack of printed papers, holding them up for her to see.

"We are in possession of docunts bearing your authenticated signature," Thorne said. "These docunts include the Final Transfer Authorization Form for the target inmate, the Approved Escort Roster, and the Designated Security Route—the exact route ambushed. Only you, as the Chief Executive of Lexington, had the authority and the clearance to sign off on that specific, non-standard route."

He placed the docunts back down and fixed her with an intense stare.

"Furthermore, we have a Sworn Testimony of a Lexington Guard currently under protective custody, alleging that you, and you alone, were responsible for knowing the precise details of that transfer schedule," Thorne said. "Do you have anything to say regarding the fact that the only person with complete operational knowledge of the route and timing is now the pri subject of this federal audit?"

Hayes t his gaze, her composure completely unshaken. She did not raise her voice; she spoke with the cold clarity of absolute conviction.

"It is all a lie," Hayes said. "Every single piece of ’evidence’ that places operational bla on is part of a sophisticated deception orchestrated by the true terrorist and criminal mastermind: Congressman Vance."

Thorne raised an eyebrow, a clear sign of surprise at the high-level accusation.

"I anticipated this political maneuvering," Hayes said. "I did not simply sit here and wait for corrupt officials to fra . I have already compiled a comprehensive, confidential report detailing Vance’s infiltration, his attempts at coercion, and his ultimate responsibility for the attack."

"I sent that report, along with all supporting digital and physical evidence, to Federal Prosecutor L. Wilson this morning," Hayes said, her voice ringing with defiance. "I included irrefutable proof that Vance’s people were the ones who forged the transfer docunts and then used the intelligence to organize the ambush. If you want the real terrorist, Inspector, you need to be arresting Congressman Vance. I have provided all the evidence to catch him."
