As Ethan and Anne reached the edge of the secondary containnt zone, the air grew thick with a low-frequency hum.
Anne stopped, her eyes fixed on the shimring, reddish do that pulsed with a slow, organic cadence. She reached out, her fingertips hovering just milliters from the surface of the barrier. "So, this is the matrix," she whispered. "It feels... alive."
"It is," Ethan replied, his gaze fixed on the crimson light reflecting in his athyst pupils. "It’s what keeps the Worm Queen locked in her cradle. I still don’t fully understand its logic, but the last ti I was here, this barrier was the only thing that stood between and a very ssy death."
They moved past the barrier and into the primary tunnel. The dinsions were staggering—a borehole so vast that a fleet of trucks could have driven through it side-by-side.
"Look at the scale of this passage," Ethan said, gesturing to the smooth, fused walls of the tunnel. "That is the girth of the beast, Anne. Do you still feel so secure?"
Anne didn’t flinch. She adjusted her gloves, her expression cold and focused. "I have never known fear, Ethan. I’m not about to start now. Let’s move."
Ethan let out a short, dry laugh. "Fair enough."
They reached a jagged listone intersection that overlooked the central nesting chamber. Crouching low, they crept to the edge of a massive stone ledge. Below them, the world opened up into a bioluminescent grotto. A lake of brilliant, glowing azure liquid sat at the center, casting ghost-blue shadows against the jagged ceiling.
The silence was absolute, save for the faint, subterranean shifting of the earth.
"Where is it?" Anne whispered, her eyes scanning the empty cavern.
"Down there," Ethan pointed toward the floor surrounding the blue lake. "She’s subrged beneath the silt and stone, but her body is nearly the size of this entire chamber. Our objective is that lake—the Nectar. We’ve confird she’s dormant. I’m going to signal for the extraction hoses."
"If that liquid is as miraculous as you claim," Anne noted, looking at the glowing reservoir, "then doing this without waking her is the only logical choice. I’d hate to see such a treasure wasted in the crossfire of a battle."
Ethan nodded and signaled Jason via the short-range burst comms. Within minutes, specialized high-pressure hoses began to snake down from the upper levels, guided by silent drones. Ethan and Anne moved down to the shore of the azure lake, the scent of ozone and honey filling their lungs.
As the heavy intake nozzle broke the surface of the glowing liquid and the pumps began to hum, Ethan stood guard, his hand resting on the hilt of his dagger.
"Crul," Ethan spoke into his mind, "Just how strong am I now? After absorbing that Void Orb, I feel... different. Like my old self wouldn’t even be able to scratch my skin."

"That sounds... unbalanced."
[ Extrely. You are currently like an industrial-grade pump trying to draw water from a tiny bucket. Your body requires massive amounts of spiritual energy to fuel your new abilities. If you use your techniques recklessly, you will drain your reserves in seconds and potentially collapse. The good news is that your physical form is now naturally denser than common steel. Ethan watched the azure liquid swirling into the hose, a dark smirk tugging at his lips. "So, rely on my physical strength for now. And you said this Void Body is special, right? I’ll test it against the Queen if I have to... but first, we’re taking every last drop of this nectar."
The extraction was proceeding with a hum, and the level of the glowing blue lake was beginning to drop, centiter by centiter. Confidence was beginning to settle in the air, until the atmosphere itself seed to solidify.
"WATCH OUT!" Anne’s scream tore through the grotto’s silence.
The necklace around her throat, a relic bound to her life force, exploded in a crimson glare, flashing a definite warning of mortal danger. Her pupils contracted until they were pinpoint sharp. Without hesitation, the Matriarch propelled her body with a burst of crimson energy, leaping at a velocity that defied physics.
Ethan’s reaction ca a fraction of a second later. The ground beneath his boots didn’t just shake; it disintegrated.
From the very bowels of the earth, the Worm Queen’s maw erged like a volcano of flesh and circular teeth, attempting to engulf them in a single, upward thrust. The beast rose majestically, revealing a segnted body that seed endless, and let loose a roar that was not a sound, but a physical shockwave.
RUUUUUAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR!
The cry vibrated the very roots of the mountain and reached all the way to the surface. In the outside camp, Jason and the elite soldiers fell to their knees, overwheld by the terrifying spiritual pressure emanating from the depths.
"Sir! What the hell was that?!" a sergeant scread over the radio, his voice thick with panic. "The radars have gone haywire! Permission to descend and provide support!"
Jason, teeth clenched and cold sweat running down his neck, gripped the communicator tight. "Hold your positions! No one goes down! If that thing is what I think it is, you’d just be in the way and you’d die before you hit the ground! Trust your leader, dammit! Secure the periter and prep the heavy weapons in case that thing decides to co out!"
Below, in the cavern, Anne landed on a rock ledge, her breath ragged and her blood-threads vibrating violently around her. She looked up at the mountain of flesh that blocked the light from the lake.
"What the shit is that, Ethan?!" the Matriarch scread, her eyes wide at the monster’s scale. "You said it was big, but this... this is an ancient era nightmare! It’s almost as big as the entire chamber!"
Ethan, who had managed to dodge the maw by re centiters thanks to his new physical agility, stood atop a stone pillar that hadn’t yet collapsed. His athyst eyes shone with savage intensity, locked on the Worm Queen twisting in fury by the theft of her nectar.
"I told you not to underestimate her, Anne!" Ethan shot back, his voice resonating with a tallic echo as his obsidian ring began to burn. "It seems she doesn’t like us taking her dicine!"
