Back to the Present — Garden Hall

Chin Chin's proud words passed through the courtyard. They persisted like the final radiance of festival embers—warm, persistent, impossible to ignore.

"Big Brother's dragon is much more beautiful and powerful than ours!"

A faint shift moved through the air, as if the courtyard itself hesitated to draw a silent breath.

It was not a hostile change, but a sudden, attentive awareness enveloping all present.

A calm of alertness fell upon the gathering, as if every spirit in the courtyard turned an ear to listen.

The Azure Dragon eased back into his seat, his robes flowing beneath him as he sat. His hands rested on the chair's arms, movents elegant, asured like the receding tide. His gaze, ancient and firm as the beams above, swept the hall without haste or surprise. He looked as if such spectacles had passed before his eyes many tis.

He regarded Shi Min with a calmly perceptive look, his head tilting just slightly as his eyes focused, as though listening for a response.

His eyes lingered on Shi Min, weighing him with a wisdom that appeared to see beyond words.

There was no challenge, only watchful awareness.

He offered no confrontation, only the calm of one who understood far more than he chose to reveal.

He was present, letting the quietness speak for him.

"The whole Hidden Valley was shaken in awe when you ascended," the Azure Dragon said calmly, lifting his teacup with steady fingers. "It must have been a spectacle to witness your dragon and phoenix."

The rim of the porcelain cup brushed his lips, delicate and precise.

He sipped the tea with unhurried composure, enjoying the mont as as though ti itself had slowed had slowed.

A deliberate stillness spread over the table, as though the earth itself halted, listening at the threshold.

Shi Min's Reaction

Shi Min remained motionless for a flash, his composure unbroken.

Outwardly, he appeared calm, though a faint tension drew his jaw firm and a quick shadow drifted his eyes.

He squared his shoulders and steadied himself under the pressure of so many watching eyes. The air was laden with expectation.

His countenance remained carefully neutral, betraying nothing of the storm that seethed under the surface.

Still beneath the surface, his immortal qi resting in silence.

A subtle current of immortal qi shifted, restless but contained.

It did not rage, but pressed close, taut as a bowstring drawn to its limit.

The tension was evident, held in check by sheer force of will.

He had never really spoken of that night, not in its entirety.

Nor had he ever denied what others claid to have seen.

He chose not to elaborate, letting silence fill the spaces where words might fail.

The tale of the dragon and the phoenix was no idle rumor. Ancient scrolls told of rare prodigies whose tribulations summoned both spirits. This sign was so deep that even the heavens appeared to hold their breath. When dragon and phoenix appeared together, the world shifted. Fate bent in new directions. Only a handful across the ages bore such a mark. For Shi Min, that legacy pressed close and heavy — a burden carried within the quiet space between words.

It had been witnessed by many, impossible to hide or deny.

Countless cultivators across Hidden Valley had witnessed the spectacle.

A dragon's roar had split the heavens, rumbling through the valley like thunder.

A phoenix's cry had answered, fierce and haunting, flowing through the storm.

Clouds parted, torn asunder by the clash of heavenly spirits.

Even the lightning seed to bow, its power stilled in reverence instead of unleashed.

Shi Min lowered his gaze for a mont, shadows shifting over his features like passing clouds.

He offered no denial, nor did he claim the glory.

Nor did he claim the glory for himself.

"It was rely tribulation resonance," he replied calmly.

His voice remained steady, betraying nothing of the mories that roused under the surface.

Yet Huang, ever perceptive, caught a faint shift.

There was no pride in Shi Min's words, only the weight of restraint.

Only restraint, asured and secret.

Ling Li watched her son with calm intensity, noting every subtle sign.

She saw the slight tightening of his jaw, the way his fingers clenched and unclenched behind his back, as if debating whether to make a fist or relax his hand entirely.

Shi Min had never relished the center of attention. The pressure of so many eyes unsettled him. It tightened his chest and chilled his hands with mories preferably left buried. He knew admiration could quickly sour into suspicion, and envy hid behind smiles. The burden of expectation pressed close, sharp and cold as sharp as a blade's shadow. Whether from humility or old wounds, he found little comfort in the harsh glare of glory.

Least of all beneath the gaze of dragons.

Zhu blinked twice.

Then blurted out—

"He has both a dragon and a phoenix?!"

His shock was genuine.

Even Huang, usually asured and unflinching, straightened in his seat and placed both hands flat on the table as his eyes sharpened.

"Yes," the Azure Dragon replied calmly.

"An Azure Dragon."

He paused deliberately.

"And a Netherfla Phoenix."

The Netherfla Phoenix

Red's eyes sharpened imdiately.

Zhu's mouth fell slightly open.

Huang's amber gaze deepened, and he leaned forward slightly, hands resting together, studying Shi Min more closely.

The Netherfla Phoenix belonged to no ordinary lineage. Its origins were shrouded in legend.

Among phoenix spirits, it was one of the rarest manifestations. Myth told of it, but it was seldom seen.

It was not born of pure fla, nor did it shine with the radiance of a firebird's light.

Its fire was a dark fla.

Illumination was not its nature.

It was a fla that consud all it touched.

Its feathers glistened in deep crimson and obsidian. Edges showed faint violet undertones that flickered like embers beneath ash.

When it cried—

It did not sound warm.

It resounded through the soul.

The Netherfla Phoenix symbolized rebirth through annihilation. The valley's oldest tales said a blighted forest was once cleansed by a Netherfla Phoenix. The flas spared not a single leaf. In the hush that followed, new shoots erged, purified and free from old corruption. The phoenix's power was not simply to destroy, but to burn away flaws, leaving space for renewal.

Not gentle renewal.

It cleansed through destruction, not gentle renewal.

Refinent ca through fire so intense that nothing flawed remained.

It was said that when a Netherfla Phoenix manifested during ascension, even the heavens took notice.

For such a phoenix, even the heavens gazed in wonder.

For such a phoenix did not simply accompany power.

It purified it, burning away all that was unworthy.

Red's expression was no longer amused.

She studied Shi Min with new intensity.

"A Netherfla Phoenix…" she spoke quietly.

"That lineage has not appeared in centuries."

Huang looked toward Shi Min again, turning his head slowly so their eyes t, then offered a brief, respectful nod.

Respect had grown into sothing heavier, edged with awe.

Zhu scratched the back of his head awkwardly, glancing between Shi Min and the others as though searching for guidance.

"So… you're balanced by destruction and purification?"

Shi Min remained silent.

But within,

mory stirred.

During ascension, he had not summoned them by will.

The dragon and phoenix had risen of their own accord.

They circled each other in perfect equilibrium, neither yielding nor dominating.

Azure fla and dark fire.

Heavenly authority entwined with annihilating rebirth.

For a brief mont,

the sky had belonged to him.

And that, more than anything, left him unsettled.
