Now reading: Chapter 153: Elowen’s Mission from THE TRIPLET ALPHAS ARE HERS, a Fantasy novel by bosswright260.

Elowen rode through the southern gate alone at dawn, her eastern guard waiting behind her. No fanfare. No trumpets. Just a woman on a horse, wearing traveling clothes and a sword at her hip. The southern alphas had agreed to et her at a neutral lodge halfway between their territory and the crown’s border.

She had been gone for three weeks.

Now she is back.

Seren stood in the courtyard, the triplets flanking her. Lysa hovered nearby. Even Iris had co to watch, her arms crossed, her expression curious.

Elowen dismounted. Her face was tired, but her eyes were bright.

"The treaty is signed," she announced. "The south remains in the kingdom."

Aeron stepped forward. "Terms?"

"Autonomy. They control their own internal affairs: laws, taxes, trade within their borders. They provide military support in exchange for crown protection. The charter applies, but enforcent is local. The institute remains open, but southern wolves are not required to participate."

Kael frowned. "That’s a lot of autonomy."

"It’s what they needed to stay." Elowen t his eyes. "They’re not our enemies, Kael. They’re scared. They wanted reassurance that the crown isn’t going to strip away everything they are."

Theron circled her. "And you just... gave it to them?"

"I negotiated. For three weeks. In a drafty lodge with alphas who hate on principle." Elowen’s voice was sharp. "I ate their food, drank their wine, listened to their complaints. I lost sleep and gained gray hairs. So don’t stand there and imply that I took the easy way out."

Theron raised his hands. "I’m not implying anything. I’m observing that you succeeded where most would have failed."

"I succeeded because I took the mission seriously."

The council convened within an hour.

Elowen presented the treaty in full, reading each article aloud. The southern packs would have their own council, their own laws, their own military command. They would send representatives to the Royal Council; non-voting, for now, and contribute to the crown’s treasury.

In return, the crown would recognize their borders, protect them from external threats, and refrain from interfering in internal matters.

"This is almost independence," Lord Pemberton said.

"It’s autonomy. There’s a difference." Elowen’s voice was cool. "They’re still part of the kingdom. They still owe loyalty to the crown. They just want to run their own affairs without soone in Silvermoor telling them how."

Lady Ashworth frowned. "And if their affairs include mistreating humans?"

"The charter applies. Enforcent is local, but the crown can intervene if there are violations." Elowen looked at Seren. "It’s not perfect. But it’s better than war."

The triplets retreated to a private chamber.

Kael paced. "Sothing isn’t right. Elowen doesn’t do anything without getting sothing in return."

"She got a seat on the council," Theron said. "That was her price."

"A seat on the council and *what else*? We don’t know what she promised the southern alphas behind closed doors."

Aeron sat at the desk, his fingers steepled. "I share your suspicion. But the treaty is solid. I’ve read it twice. There are no hidden clauses, no secret andnts."

"Then she’s a better negotiator than we thought."

"Or she’s playing a longer ga."

Seren listened.

"You’re all assuming the worst," she said. "Elowen took the mission seriously. She succeeded. Why can’t you just accept that?"

Kael stopped pacing. "Because it’s Elowen."

"Because she’s your sister." Seren stood. "She’s not the enemy anymore. She hasn’t been for a long ti. But you keep treating her like a threat, and eventually, she’ll beco one. Not because she wants to—because you forced her."

Aeron was silent.

"You’re defending her."

"I’m defending the truth." Seren walked to the window. "Elowen negotiated in good faith. She brought back a treaty that keeps the south in the kingdom. She did her job. The least you can do is thank her."

Kael muttered sothing under his breath.

Theron sighed. "She’s right. We’re being paranoid."

"Paranoid keeps us alive."

"Paranoid also pushes away allies."

Aeron stood. "I’ll thank her. I’ll accept the treaty. But I won’t trust her. Not yet. Not completely."

Seren turned. "That’s all I ask."

That night, Seren found Elowen in the garden.

The princess sat on the stone bench by the fountain, a glass of wine in her hand. She looked older than she had three weeks ago. The lines around her eyes had deepened.

"They don’t trust ," Elowen said.

"They’re suspicious. There’s a difference."

"Not to ."

Seren sat beside her. "The treaty is good. You did well."

"I did what was necessary." Elowen stared at the water. "The southern alphas are not bad wolves. They’re confused. The world is changing too fast, and they don’t know how to keep up. Sound familiar?"

Seren smiled. "A little."

"I told them about you. About the school. About the institute. About how you were a servant who beca queen." Elowen looked at her. "They didn’t believe at first. They thought I was exaggerating."

"And then?"

"And then I told them the truth. That you’re not a threat to wolves—you’re a bridge. That the charter doesn’t destroy wolf culture, it gives humans a stake in protecting it. That the institute isn’t about replacing wolves, it’s about understanding what we share."

Seren’s throat tightened. "That’s beautiful."

"It’s *true*." Elowen set down her wine. "I spent years hating you. Years scheming against you. Years believing that your existence was an insult to everything I was taught."

"And now?"

"Now I think you might be the best thing that ever happened to this kingdom." Elowen stood. "Don’t tell my brothers I said that. They’d never let live it down."

Seren laughed. "Your secret is safe."

The treaty was ratified the next morning.

The southern packs would remain in the kingdom. Elowen would have her council seat. The crisis was averted.

But as Seren signed her na to the docunt, she felt a flicker of unease.

Elowen had succeeded too easily. The triplets were right to be suspicious.

But they were also wrong.

Elowen had changed. Not completely, she was still ambitious, still calculating, still capable of betrayal. But she was also... sothing else. Sothing new.

*We’ll watch her,* Seren thought. *But we’ll also trust her. Because that’s what family does.*
