Although Lorze spoke casually, he understood exactly how fucking difficult this match was going to be.
The Protean Ability granted Frogadier limitless typing, restricted only by the number of moves it had mastered.
Up until now, Frogadier had only revealed three moves: the Water-type 'Water Pulse', and the Normal-type 'Cut' and 'Quick Attack'.
The base damage of these moves wasn't actually that high, but the fact that it reached the finals using only these three spoke volus about Frogadier's raw base stats.
Lorze wasn't stupid enough to think it only knew those three; its evolution, Greninja, was a Dark-type, which ant Frogadier definitely had Dark-type talent.
The mont it swapped its typing to 'Dark', Ralts's telekinetic powers would be effectively sealed.
As a rule of thumb, Lorze assud Frogadier had Dark-type moves, so everything depended on whether Thunder Punch could land.
For a long mont, neither side made a move.
Or rather, Shi Fan was waiting for Lorze to strike first, a confident, smug smirk playing on his lips, as if he had already won.
Fine then, let's see exactly what kind of dirty tricks this Frogadier is hiding!
"Psychic!"
Lorze didn't recklessly order a close-quarters approach, choosing instead to let Ralts probe with a long-range strike.
A violent wave of ntal energy erupted from Ralts's hands—a wave so intense even Pikachu didn't dare tank it—yet Frogadier didn't even flinch.
Instead, it gathered a surge of Dark-type energy in its palms, releasing a series of black, pulsating rings that rippled outward.
"Dark Pulse."
Shi Fan spoke the command with total indifference, and the black energy effortlessly tore through the Psychic wave, continuing its destructive path toward Ralts.
Just as I thought, Lorze muttered internally. No Frogadier is clueless about Dark moves. He quickly ordered Ralts to Teleport out of the way.
However, Dark-type moves were expected; they weren't the real problem. The real headache began imdiately after.
Since telekinetics couldn't break through, Lorze pivoted to the Thunder Punch combo—it was technically stronger than her Psychic anyway, and if Electric moves worked, he still had a path to victory.
But a bad feeling washed over Lorze when he noticed how unnervingly calm Shi Fan remained.
The mont Ralts executed a calculated Teleport to Frogadier's flank and unleashed the Thunder Punch, Shi Fan's smirk widened.
Facing the unscientific fist that had already scored two legendary one-shot KOs, Shi Fan waited until Frogadier sensed the Electric energy before calling out the counter.
Earthen power surged into Frogadier's hands, forming a glob of wet, ssy mud that it casually splashed around its own body.
The mud itself had zero offensive power; it was just a pile of filth that could be wiped off with a hand.
But because of that mud, Frogadier's typing instantly shifted from Dark to Ground, granting it absolute immunity to the incoming Thunder Punch.
Ralts's tiny fist slamd into Frogadier, but it didn't do a single shred of damage.
"Mud Sport? I didn't expect you to have that move." Lorze frowned, quickly ordering Ralts back to his side.
"That's right. As you can see, I have every type needed to hard-counter you. Ralts's attacks are useless. If you don't have any other tricks, you might as well forfeit now." Shi Fan smiled. Now Lorze knew why he was so certain he couldn't lose.
To be honest, even Shi Fan was surprised; while Protean made type-advantages easy, he had never seen an opponent get hard-countered quite as brutally as this Ralts.
It wasn't just a resistance; it was a total, absolute immunity.
Dark-type is immune to Psychic. Ground-type is immune to Electric.
Under normal circumstances, Ralts's overpowered telekinesis and her "illegal" Thunder Punch would be a nightmare to deal with.
But all of that was completely nullified by Protean. With your two best types rendered useless, what the hell are you going to fight with?
You can't. The audience shook their heads in collective disappointnt.
This match was no longer about a gap in skill; it was a total, lethal mismatch in compatibility.
Facing a "hard-countered-to-death" scenario like this, even an Elite Trainer would be at a total loss, right?
Just forfeit. This is boring.
I thought Ralts was the ultimate cheat, but this Frogadier is even more of a hacker.
Is it impossible to fight a match these days without using so kind of broken exploit?
Behind their screens, Lorze's mother and Roxanne also frowned, sensing a disaster. They knew this match would be hard, but they never imagined it would be this restrictive.
What now... how is little Lorze going to break this?
With his current move-set, is there even a logical path to victory left?
In the VIP lounge, Mother Xue could only shake her head. From her perspective, Lorze had already lost this ga.
But no one could bla him; the compatibility was just that fucking trash.
However... was the compatibility actually trash?
Lorze didn't think so.
"Want to make a bet?" Lorze suddenly smiled after a mont of deep silence.
"What kind of bet?" Shi Fan raised an eyebrow. Judging by Lorze's look, was he actually hiding another move?
"I bet your Protean is about to get hard-countered by my Ralts."
"Ha! You've got balls, I'll give you that. Let's see you try!"
"As you wish. Ralts, Thunder Punch!"
"Useless! Use Mud Sport again!"
Shi Fan's brow furrowed. He thought Lorze was going for a new move, but it was just Thunder Punch again?
Ground-type is immune to Electric. You could try a million tis and it would never work.
If that lands, I'll literally eat my Frogadier on the spot!
Or are you trying to play word gas? Screaming 'Thunder Punch' to bait into Ground-type, then switching to a sneak Psychic attack?
Ground-type isn't immune to Psychic, after all.
That was a valid tactic, but it wouldn't work. Lorze wasn't the first person to try that trick; Frogadier was a professional. It didn't listen to voices; it reacted to the actual energy it sensed.
The second it detected ntal energy for a Psychic attack, it would swap to Dark-type instantly. It was trained for this; it would never be fooled!
"ZZZT—CRACKLE!"
However, the sound that echoed was the crackle of electricity. Ralts Teleported behind Frogadier, and her fist was genuinely wreathed in Thunder Punch. It wasn't a feint.
This left everyone even more confused. In the face of type-immunity, raw power shouldn't matter. What the hell was Lorze doing?
But the crowd soon realized exactly what he was doing.
That crazy bastard was literally trying to brute-force a type-immunity!
A violent, electric fist slamd into Frogadier's head. To a Ground-type Frogadier, the attack should have felt like nothing but a warm breeze, yet... GERO-KERO?!
The "immune" Frogadier was violently blasted away by the punch, tumbling across the floor several tis before finally coming to a stop, its brain completely rattled.
It touched its own frog head in disbelief. The spot where the tiny fist connected was burning with agonizing pain.
What the fuck?
I'm a Ground-type! How the hell was I injured by a Thunder Punch?!
When it looked back at the pure white figure wreathed in lightning, its eyes were filled with pure terror.
"Impossible!"
Shi Fan's eyes nearly bulged out of his head. He couldn't believe Frogadier had been sent flying. Elental physics didn't lie; Electric cannot hurt Ground. Even a rookie knows that!
Then why was Frogadier hurt?
How could it possibly be injured?
WHAT THE HELL DID THAT RALTS DO?!!
For a mont, Shi Fan looked exactly like the previous opponents Lorze had crushed—completely and utterly mind-fucked.
His mind began to spiral. Is the Ground-type from Protean not a 'real' Ground-type?
No, that's impossible. I've never heard of such a thing!
He desperately wanted to pull out his phone and check the livestream, because he knew millions of people were just as confused as he was. The chat was definitely screaming for Goddess Xue Tong to explain this bullshit, and he wanted to know too!
By what right does your Thunder Punch ignore the laws of the universe?!
Goddess Xue Tong, save us "Muggles" from this madness!!!
Xue Tong: "..."
Don't ask . I want to be a "Muggle" too right now!
