The next day after breakfast, Xue Yue went back to Yangjia Gou alone. She didn’t bring the children, just the half slab of pork they had left at ho.

When she arrived, Xue Changlin’s family was in the middle of breakfast.

Seeing Xue Yue enter, Liu Hongxing and Xue Changlin both put down their chopsticks and stood up.

"Yue’er, you’re here. Have you eaten?"

"I have," Xue Yue replied, placing the pork she’d brought to one side.

"Dad, my older brother is getting married," Xue Yue said directly.

Xue Changlin and Liu Hongxing were stunned for a mont, but they quickly recovered.

"That’s wonderful. Whose daughter is she? What village is she from?"

"My sister-in-law is from town. Her father is the ntor who trained my brother at the Public Security Bureau. They’ve already registered their marriage and want our two families to have a al together. Do you think you’ll go?"

Liu Hongxing looked to Xue Changlin. He was silent for a long ti before slowly shaking his head. "We won’t go. Besides, her parents are important people. We’d only embarrass ourselves if we went. Just give the newlyweds our best wishes for ."

Xue Yue looked at him. "No one thinks you’re an embarrassnt. It’ll be a real embarrassnt if you *don’t* go!"

But Xue Changlin still shook his head. "Just forget it. You all should go."

Xue Yue was upset, but she didn’t know how to convince her father.

She said irritably, "Also, my brother and I both got into a university in Beijing City. We’re leaving in a few days. You should take care of yourself."

Xue Yue felt awful. As soon as she finished speaking, she turned to leave.

Hearing this, Xue Changlin paused. A smile then spread across his face.

"You got into university? That... that’s a joyous occasion for the Xue family! Wait for a second."

Xue Changlin hurried out of the main room and went to the one Xue Yue used to live in, which was now occupied by Xue Xingjun.

He rummaged around for sothing in the room before coming back out, holding an object wrapped in a handkerchief.

He carefully handed it to Xue Yue. "There are two pieces of jewelry in here, left by your mother. Since you’re both leaving, take them with you. You can pick one, and give the other to Xue Xingzhou’s wife. Think of it as a small token from your mother."

Xue Yue was surprised. ’My mother left jewelry behind?’

She opened it and saw a golden hairpin and a jade bracelet.

"I had originally planned to keep them as a nto, but it’s better if you take them now. When you go to Beijing City—" Xue Changlin thought of the past and couldn’t continue.

"Go on, now. Co back and see your dad when you have ti."

Xue Yue looked at the items in her hand, glanced at her father one last ti, and walked out.

Just as she stepped out the door, Xue Xingjun chased after her. "Sis, our older brother is getting married. I want to go. Can you take ?"

Xue Xingjun hadn’t seen his older brother since Xue Xingzhou went to live with Xue Yue last year, so he had no choice but to ask her for help.

Xue Yue glanced at him and nodded. "Alright. Once the date is set, I’ll have your brother-in-law co pick you up."

Xue Xingjun broke into a happy smile, then added, "Sis, you and brother both got into university. You’re so incredible! I’m really proud of you."

Xue Yue looked at him, fighting back a smile. "Then you should work hard too, and try to get into a university."

The smile froze right on Xue Xingjun’s face. "Uh... um, Sis, just rember to have my brother-in-law co get , okay?" With that, he ran back inside.

Xue Yue couldn’t help but chuckle. She looked down at the items in her hand and sighed.

anwhile, He Lang was talking to Zhang Bin about transferring his job to his brother.

Zhang Bin didn’t quite approve of the idea. "Your wife is going off to university, what are you going to do following her? Everything costs money in Beijing City. You’re better off staying here and working. You can reconsider after your wife graduates."

He Lang gave a low chuckle. "Captain, I’m not very ambitious. I just don’t want to be too far from my wife. Besides, the children can’t be without her."

Zhang Bin said in exasperation, "I think it’s *you* who can’t be away from your wife, not the kids."

He Lang smiled and nodded. "You’re right, Captain."

Still, Zhang Bin couldn’t really refuse to process his resignation.

"He Lang, I’m truly sad to see you go. As for transferring the job to your older brother, you understand that in our line of work, he can’t just take over your position. He’ll have to start from scratch."

He Lang nodded in understanding.

When they were done, Zhang Bin shook He Lang’s hand. "If you ever want to co back, my door is always open."

He Lang squeezed his hand. "Thank you, Captain."

After leaving the office, He Lang went to see the rest of the team.

"Brother Lang, you can’t be serious! How can you just up and leave like this?"

He Lang clapped Li Dawei on the shoulder. "It’s a tight schedule. My wife’s school starts mid-month."

Li Dawei gave him a thumbs-up. "Still, I really admire you two. You know what they say: keep in touch."

He Lang nodded. "Of course. And my older brother will be coming, so look out for him, will you?"

Li Dawei thumped his chest. "No problem. I’ll treat him like he’s my own brother."

He Lang chuckled. "That’s a relief to hear."

After saying his goodbyes to the team, He Lang packed his things and left.

Afterward, He Lang went straight to the old family ho.

"What? You transferred your job to ? But what about you?" He Nan asked, stunned.

Mr. and Mrs. He were just as shocked.

He Lang said nonchalantly, "My wife is going to school in Beijing City, so I have to go with her. That ans I can’t do this job anymore. Who else would I give it to if not you?"

He Nan shook his head. "I an, your wife is going to school, but what will *you* do? Without a job, how are you going to survive in Beijing City?"

Mrs. He looked at him angrily. "What were you thinking? The cost of living in Beijing City is so high. What will you do there?"

He Lang said proudly, "I’m going to keep an eye on my wife! She’s so beautiful. What if so other guy tries to hit on her when I’m not around?" He said it all without batting an eye.

Mrs. He blushed listening to him. "So you don’t trust your wife?"

He Lang waved his hand. "Oh no, that’s not it. I just don’t trust other n. Mom, you don’t understand n. Sotis, when they see a pretty face, they’ll get ideas and do anything. I can’t rest easy with her being so far away. I have to go with my wife. Besides, Ruanruan and Shiyi are so young. They need their mother."

Mr. He was silent for a long mont. "Have you and your wife discussed this?"

"Yes."

"The expenses in Beijing City won’t be small. Can you manage?"

He Lang nodded. "Dad, don’t worry. I’ve already thought about everything you’re concerned about. It won’t be a problem."

"As long as you understand," Mr. He said, having no further objections.

Mrs. He shook her head. "I still think this is a bad idea. You’ll go to Beijing City, and when your wife is at school, you’ll just stay ho and watch the kids all day? Is that a man’s job?"

He Lang sighed. "Mom, what other choice do we have? Unless... you co with us. You could watch the kids for us, and I could go out and find a job."

Mrs. He waved her hands dismissively. "I’m not going. I don’t know anyone there, and the place is completely new to . It would be frightening. But how about this: I’ll find soone to watch the kids for you. Then you can go out and earn money."

The three n—father and sons—all looked at Mrs. He, waiting to see who she had in mind.

"Daya."
