The old lady was skeptical, "Really?"
"Yes, he told that the village uncles wanted to grow sunflowers."
The old lady was taken aback, "Grow sunflowers?"
"Perhaps so staff working in the workshop ntioned it when they ca back. Everyone in the village knows we’ve established a long-term business deal with the capital. Sunflowers will definitely be needed for a long ti, and the village uncles are thinking about this."
Of course, not many people are willing to try.
After all, during these tis, food is the foundation for farrs, planting anything other than grain doesn’t provide peace of mind.
But there are so families who like to take risks. They have land and have asked Lu Dasong if sunflowers are easy to grow, then considered trying it.
These people did approach Lu Dasong, who quietly asked Daniu whether the workshop needed sunflowers and if it was good for the village to grow them.
After getting a definite answer from Daniu, Lu Dasong was relieved.
However, if it had been just one or two villagers approaching him, Lu Dasong could have simply agreed and asked Shu Yu directly.
But with about ten families interested in growing sunflowers, Lu Dasong suggested they first speak to the village chief, so he could talk to Shu Yu.
This decision by Eldest Uncle seed quite wise to Shu Yu.
Otherwise, if sothing happened in between, everyone would co to Eldest Uncle, bringing him an unnecessary amount of trouble.
Having Fan Zhong as the village chief act as the interdiary, coordinating and explaining everything, makes negotiation easier.
But Fan Zhong, honestly, isn’t the most capable or visionary village chief. He thought these people were ssing around, overlooking good grain to plant sunflowers? If there’s a famine year, how will they cope?
Initially, he not only disagreed but scolded them, telling them to grow crops properly.
He even said that if they felt too destitute, he could set aside his old face and ask Shu Yu to help find them so work in the workshop.
However, those in the village daring enough to take risks aren’t brainless.
They weren’t convinced by the village chief’s promises. They might not understand Monarch Lu Xiang fully, but they knew enough to realize she wouldn’t necessarily do favors for the village chief.
Not trusting the village chief’s empty promises, they turned back to Lu Dasong.
Yet they also knew the village chief’s personality; approaching Lu Dasong directly might upset him, leading to sabotage.
So soone suggested giving a piece of at to the village chief’s wife to sway his decision.
Sure enough, this worked, and Fan Zhong agreed.
One of the villagers recounted this to Lu Dasong, who ntioned it in passing to Shu Yu when she went to see Fan Zhong.
Indeed, Fan Zhong brought up this issue with her, though he still thought these people were being reckless and wasn’t very attentive when speaking to Shu Yu.
Unexpectedly, Shu Yu agreed. If the villagers grew sunflowers, she could take responsibility for purchasing all of them.
The price could be negotiated, but the quality of the sunflowers couldn’t be poor; if it was, she reserved the right to not cooperate.
However, today was Zaozao’s full moon banquet, and Shu Yu didn’t want to discuss business here, so they agreed to talk about the specifics the next day.
Upon hearing this, the old lady felt relieved and didn’t ask further.
Just then, Madam Liang’s voice ca from outside, "Ti to start the feast! Everyone, co out to eat."
Shu Yu quickly helped the old lady stand up, and they walked out together.
