Wei Ronghua laughed, "As long as the custors like it. This pastry is priced at 30 coins. However, our Furong Cake sells like hotcakes, usually sold out by afternoon. There truly aren’t any left today. If you’d like, I can reserve so for you next ti?"
coins... per piece?
Ying Xi clicked her tongue. In such a small county town, at such a small shop, the pastries were indeed quite pricey.
She looked at Shu Yu, who instantly knew she wanted to eat so — this foodie.
So she nodded to Wei Ronghua, "Then we’ll co back tomorrow to buy so. Shopkeeper, please reserve around ten for us."
Wei Ronghua smiled and agreed, "Alright, I’ll save so for you."
"Thank you."
Shu Yu then led Ying Xi out of the shop.
As soon as they left, the staff couldn’t help but walk over to Wei Ronghua, lowering his voice, sneering, "Do you really believe they’ll buy anything? Reserving so for them? They sure know how to talk big. Those two clearly can’t afford it, yet you let them try for free. You must be an idiot. I’ll report today’s events truthfully to the boss."
Wei Ronghua glanced at him sideways, too lazy to respond, turning back behind the counter.
The other two staff in the shop exchanged a glance but decided to act as if they hadn’t seen anything, keeping themselves busy.
After Shu Yu and Ying Xi left the shop, they returned directly to the inn.
Shu Yu remained silent the entire way, but Ying Xi couldn’t hold back and asked, "Miss, what do you think of Manager Wei?"
"At the mont, his conduct and attitude seem decent; he treats every custor equally, which aligns with my thoughts. But for a shopkeeper, being good-natured alone isn’t enough. Let’s go see again tomorrow."
Ying Xi nodded.
Although they planned to visit the next day, that very evening, after having dinner and reverting to their usual attire, they strolled downstairs near Red Cake.
At this hour, most shops in the county town had already closed.
However, with the Mid-Autumn Festival only days away, the streets remained bustling even late in the evening. Many people and shops were preparing for the upcoming lantern festival, especially the large restaurant that had already set up scaffolding at its entrance for so unknown purpose.
Red Cake was seemingly not holding any events; when Shu Yu visited during the day, all she saw was that the lanterns and couplets at the entrance had been replaced with new ones — no other signs of lantern festival preparations.
Despite this, Red Cake was still open late into the night.
Shu Yu stood at the entrance, glanced inside, observing Wei Ronghua bent over the counter, focused on sothing. The shop was void of custors, utterly quiet.
Sensing sothing, Wei Ronghua lifted his head to look toward the entrance.
But Shu Yu had already left, leaving him to see nothing but the foot traffic outside.
Shu Yu intended to explore the other side of the street, but Ying Xi suddenly tugged at her sleeve, "Miss, it’s those two staff from Red Cake."
Shu Yu turned her head and indeed saw those two unconcerned staff from earlier exiting the shop, strolling out with their arms around each other.
As they passed by Shu Yu, she caught them ntioning heading for dinner.
Shu Yu thought for a mont and told Ying Xi, "Let’s follow them and see."
The two staff didn’t walk far, stopping at a nearby noodle stall, ordering two bowls of the cheapest vegetarian noodles.
