As the closing ti approached with just the last few hours remaining, Lu’s saw another small surge of custors. Many people coming off work were rushing over.
Among them was the person who had been staring at the promotional poster and talking to Shu Yu in the morning, who had said he would co in the evening, and indeed he made it in ti.
Even more coincidentally, he actually drew the last first prize.
Shu Yu originally thought he would choose the golden hairpin, but unexpectedly he chose the double-sided embroidery instead.
When the people behind found out the first prize was gone, they beat their chests in regret for a while, then bucked up and continued to draw, since there were still second, third, and fourth prizes left.
By the ti the last third prize was drawn, it was already dark outside.
There weren’t many custors left outside, so Shu Yu told them the truth, that only consolation prizes were left now.
Hearing this, about half of the custors left, but the rest continued on.
With so popcorn left, Shu Yu simply packed large portions for everyone.
Finally, as the last custor left, everyone could let out a long breath of relief.
"It’s finally over." Daniu plopped down on a bench in the back, closing his eyes to rest for a while.
He had been through tough tis, but an entire day of tension was truly exhausting.
Shu Yu was tired too, but in good spirits, leaning on the counter, looking at ng Yunzheng tallying up the numbers, "Take a break, calculate later."
ng Yunzheng smiled, "I’m not tired, just a little while longer and I’ll have today’s profit calculated."
"Alright then, continue." She turned to Wei Ronghua, "Manager Wei, take everyone to the restaurant across the street, order so dishes, and have a late-night snack. Everyone’s worked hard all day, and needs a rest. Bring a portion back for us too."
Apart from Wei Ronghua, everyone else would have to squeeze into the shop’s backyard for the night.
Wei Fangfang being young, Shu Yu had sent her ho early, knowing that occasional help was fine, but a full day was too much, and she certainly couldn’t exploit child labor.
Wei Ronghua nodded, "Okay." He called out to the others, "Let’s go, follow across the street to get so food."
The group all hustled out of the shop.
Lu’s, once bustling, was now nearly empty, with just the two of them remaining.
Shu Yu moved behind the counter and sat beside ng Yunzheng.
Both of them were quiet, one doing calculations, the other watching, presenting a serene picture of ti passing peacefully.
ng Yunzheng, ticulous in his work, calculated once, and then double-checked his numbers.
After confirming everything was correct, he wrote down the results and pushed them toward Shu Yu.
With a cheerful smile, he said, "Looks like this event was quite a success."
Shu Yu glanced at the final number on the notebook, her eyebrows raised, "This much?"
Three hundred fifty-seven taels, three qian, six coins??
This was pure profit, after deducting labor costs and prizes for the lottery.
"Yu, how about it?" People started trickling back in from outside.
Shu Yu looked up, "You guys are back so soon? Didn’t I tell you to have a good al?"
Wei Ronghua, a bit helpless, said, "Everyone’s eager to know whether we made a profit or a loss today."
After all, those prizes weren’t cheap, and most people who bought lon seeds went straight to the lottery once they spent two hundred wen.
Shu Yu didn’t keep them in suspense, smiling, "Of course we made a profit."
Everyone’s eyes lit up, "How much?"
