Capítulo 1887: Chapter 1887: Presenting the Evidence

After Wang Yue and the others arrived at the prefecture, they wanted to find out Shu Yu’s whereabouts.

However, Shu Yu was very discreet upon arrival, and even stayed at an inn chosen by ng Yunzheng, so naturally, they couldn’t find out anything.

Just as Wang Yue was getting anxious, she suddenly heard that the Wen’an County Lord had appeared in Shili Lane, and had soone arrested by the officers to be taken to the governnt office.

Upon hearing this, Wang Yue and Guo Zheng hurried to the Office, just in ti to catch Zhou Tiedong accusing Chen Bing.

After Wang Yue spoke, Zhou Tiedong already had tears in his eyes, “Ayue…”

The people outside the courtroom were also very moved, “This young woman is truly loyal and righteous.”

Qi Lie listened and nodded slightly, “I understand the case.” He then asked Guo Zheng, “Is the evidence with you?”

“Yes, Lord.” Guo Zheng was still a bit nervous, but when he thought about the opportunity to overturn his long-standing injustice, he beca excited and initially spoke a little incoherently, “Civilian, civilian was an accountant at the Chen Family’s grocery store ten years ago.”

The Chen Family’s grocery store was small, so initially it was just Chen Bing and his wife managing it, with no need for additional staff or an accountant.

However, Chen Bing was illiterate, unable to read or write, let alone do accounting.

Initially, he kept no records, as it was fine as long as they made money daily, and at the end of the month, they would tally everything to see how much they earned. After marrying Ms. Pan, she was the one who kept the accounts.

For many years, Ms. Pan kept the records.

But ever since giving birth to Chen Qiu sixteen years ago, Ms. Pan had beco sowhat absent-minded, possibly due to the demands of child-rearing, often forgetting to keep the books, and the household finances stopped balancing.

Chen Bing tried to keep the accounts himself, but even though he had learned to read and calculate numbers, his bookkeeping was extrely disorganized and hard to understand.

Hence, based on soone else’s suggestion, they hired Guo Zheng, an accountant whose wages were not too high.

Because of this, Ms. Pan once caused a ruckus, feeling that Chen Bing didn’t trust her, but in the end, nothing ca of it.

Guo Zheng worked at the grocery store for six years. Ten years ago, Chen Bing’s son, Chen He, reached adulthood and was preparing to marry, and he discussed with Chen Bing about managing the accounts.

Chen Bing was fond of this son, and since the grocery store would eventually belong to him, it was just a matter of managing the accounts, while still holding the money himself—it would be good training for him in advance.

In fact, up to this point, everything was fine. Chen Bing just needed to have a proper conversation with Guo Zheng, that they no longer required an accountant.

But during the handover, Chen Bing tried to find faults in the records, insisting that there were discrepancies here and poor clarity there. This infuriated Guo Zheng, as his reputation as an accountant was very important; leaving the grocery store, he would need to find another job, and couldn’t afford to have Chen Bing criticize him in such a way.

An argunt ensued, and Chen Bing beca malicious, accusing him of embezzling a lot of money, and had Constable Li beat him, withholding even his last two months of wages.

The crowd shook their heads repeatedly upon hearing this, feeling that Chen Bing was truly behaving abominably, greedy to such an extent.

Qi Lie glanced at him and asked Guo Zheng, “You say all this, but do you have any evidence?”

Guo Zheng shook his head, “Apart from Constable Li, I have no other evidence or witnesses.”

Chen Bing breathed a sigh of relief.

Yet the next mont, Guo Zheng continued, “Lord, although I have no evidence for my own case, I do have evidence for Zhou Tiedong’s case.”

Chen Bing suddenly looked up, Shu Yu imdiately smiled, and Qi Lie raised an eyebrow, “Present it.”

“Yes.” Guo Zheng pulled a few sheets of paper from his sleeve and handed them to the officer next to him.
