Now reading: Chapter 224: The Wyvern Swarm from The Adventures of Hulim, a Adventure novel by Cute Clumsy Old Witch.

"Speaking of which......"

At that mont, Charkin suddenly spoke up.

"The place we’re heading to has a lot of Golems—quite a few of them are high-rank combat models."

"Huh?"

Hulim looked surprised.

"Then wouldn’t that place be very dangerous? Why are we still going there?"

"Heh heh~, you’ll understand when we get there. It’s not dangerous at all—in fact, it’s one of the few safe zones in Myrnabyss. Let’s pick up the pace; we should arrive in two days......"

With that, Charkin urged the Shieldhorn Beast beneath him to speed up.

The two figures raced deeper into Myrnabyss.

......

As Hulim and Charkin ventured further into the Myrnabyss Mountains, the surrounding scenery grew increasingly fantastical.

Most striking of all were the shattered ruins floating in the sky.

These suspended ruin fragnts were arranged in a spiral, stretching high into the heavens.

"......Charkin, is that...... the legendary Corridor?"

Hulim stared at the floating ruins and asked.

"That’s right. It’s the legendary Heavenward Corridor. According to legend, in ancient eras, it was a passage connecting the Mortal Realm and the Heavenly Realm. Anyone who passed through it could enter Tiramsuin."

"Unfortunately, this corridor was destroyed in so distant era, severing the connection between the two realms. Its ruins have remained untouched ever since, serving no purpose."

Hulim tilted her head back, gazing up at the sky.

"What are you...... doing?"

Charkin couldn’t help but ask when he saw her gesture.

"I was wondering if I could see Tiramsuin, but......"

"I can’t see anything at all."

"That’s only natural......"

"Tiramsuin isn’t just so floating island—it’s basically another dinsion. It’s not really up there in the sky."

"By the way...... Speaking of which, seeing the shattered corridor ans we’ve reached the deep regions of Myrnabyss. How do you feel? Any better?"

"Um...... Much better. The occasional headaches and fatigue I felt earlier are gone."

Ever since she first arrived near Myrnabyss, Hulim had noticed the increasing concentration of mana particles in the air—and her symptoms had gradually improved.

After entering the Myrnabyss Mountains, the mana concentration rose another level, and Hulim’s headaches disappeared entirely.

Now, in these deep regions, the mana concentration was even higher.

Her physical strength had returned to a normal level, and she no longer felt constant fatigue.

Still, she couldn’t use magic......

"Huh? It looks like sothing’s flying over here."

Hulim, still gazing up at the sky, suddenly spotted a black dot rapidly approaching them.

"Hmm? Sothing flying over?"

Charkin also looked up.

As the dark shape drew closer, the two gradually made out its form.

"It’s a Wyvern!"

"Roar!"

A white Wyvern with a wingspan of nearly eight or nine ters circled above them.

"Has it set its sights on us?"

"No," Charkin shook his head. "It’s not so much us it’s targeting as our mounts. Easy prey like this is rare in Myrnabyss—it’s only natural it’s drawn to them."

In ordinary regions, Wyverns were practically aerial overlords, able to run amok unchecked.

But in Myrnabyss, Rank C Wyverns were rely at the bottom of the food chain. Even hunting for food was a constant struggle.

"It’s been circling nonstop......"

"Let it fly. If it’s sensible enough to leave, I don’t bother teaching it a lesson."

Charkin twirled his warhamr in his hand, not in a hurry to act.

Wyverns weren’t monsters—they were native creatures of Himlir. Unlike monsters, which they eliminated whenever possible, native creatures were generally left alone unless necessary.

However.

Clearly, this Wyvern didn’t understand Charkin’s intentions. Or perhaps the temptation of the two Shieldhorn Beasts was too great. In the end, it couldn’t hold back and dove straight down.

Its powerful, clawed hind legs reached out toward the Shieldhorn Beast beneath Hulim.

"Just couldn’t resist, huh!"

Charkin hurled his warhamr.

Boom!

After a deafening crash, the Wyvern let out a shrill cry and plumted to the ground. It flailed a few tis before falling motionless.

"......"

Hulim studied the Wyvern closely.

Compared to Wyverns in other regions, this one was noticeably larger......

"Hulim, let’s move quickly. If we don’t leave soon, more trouble will co chasing us!"

"Hmm? Alright."

Though confused by Charkin’s sudden urgency, she trusted him enough to follow.

The two quickly left the area, the Wyvern’s corpse fading into the distance behind them.

But......

Less than half an hour later.

"Tch!"

Charkin suddenly clicked his tongue, yanking the Shieldhorn Beast’s reins to a halt.

"What’s wrong, Charkin?"

"We’re in trouble...... Sure enough, these guys tracked us down."

"What’s tracking us——"

Hulim’s voice trailed off.

For she saw, on a mountain peak ahead, a familiar figure standing tall, staring at them fiercely.

It was a Wyvern with a wingspan of roughly ten ters......

"No......!"

Hulim suddenly sensed sothing was wrong and glanced around.

"......"

Then she saw it—dozens of Wyverns perched on high ground all around them, surrounding the two in a semicircle.

"Charkin......"

"Sorry, I forgot to tell you—Wyverns in Myrnabyss are different from those outside...... They’re social creatures."

Why didn’t you say that earlier!

Wait, if that’s the case, we shouldn’t have killed that one so casually. They’re obviously here for revenge!

"Cough cough......"

Charkin wore a slightly embarrassed look.

"I only wanted to injure it and scare it away. Who knew it couldn’t take a hit......"

"......"

"Roar——!!!"

The largest Wyvern on the mountain peak let out a thunderous roar at them.

In an instant, all the Wyverns took flight as if a hornet’s nest had been stirred.

They circled above the two in a dark mass, nearly blocking out the sunlight.

"Charkin, what do we do now?!"

Hulim asked anxiously.

In terms of overall combat power, these Wyverns might not be as strong as a group of High-Rank Combat Golems. But their intelligence completely outclassed that of Golems, which only acted according to preset patterns!

Charkin could distract a Golem swarm alone, ensuring Hulim’s safety. But these Wyverns would quickly realize she couldn’t fight—and target her as the weak link, launching a concentrated attack!

If that happened, they’d be in serious trouble......
