Vaerion poured himself a glass of wine, too. Ti passed by, seconds turned into minutes, with no one talking. The two heroes sat there calmly, drinking tea and enjoying the serenity of the place.
Just as Reinhardt opened his mouth to speak, Vaerion spoke first.
"I know what you want to say".
"Oh?! Do you?"
The Dark Knight nodded his head. "I can pretty much guess. You found out about the corruption festering within the capital, right?"
As if saying that he hit the bullseye, Vaerion grinned. "The demons are on the move. I don’t know what they are planning exactly, but I can tell that they have spread their corruption deep within the Holy Grounds".
Reinahrdt’s eyes were a little grave. As expected, a level 10 hero like him would be shaming his title and rank if he were unaware of the demonic activity happening right under his nose. That said, if he was aware, then why wasn’t he doing anything?
"It’s not so easy. The churches and temples of the seven old gods hold imnse power, influence, and faith in the city. They not only have a say in the rules and laws of the kingdom, but they also hold people’s support. If we touch them carelessly, it might backfire on us instead".
Reinahrdt nodded his head, understanding his dilemma. The sacred institutions here were like the Council of Elders back in Solaris. Although they were all aware that most of the council mbers were corrupt, it was hard to oust them, given the powerful influence they held.
"Don’t worry though, it’s not like I haven’t been doing anything." At this mont, Vaerion flashed a fierce smile. "The Hellmarshal and I have been keeping an eye on the mbers who serve the seven old gods and have been able to successfully identify quite a lot of them. Our two knight orders are also keeping a tight surveillance on their top ranks".
It appeared that the Dark Knight did have a plan prepared. What’s more, he was also collaborating with another hero of their kingdom, the Hellmarshal. A legendary na that held no less influence than the likes of Divine Paladin, Dark Knight, Saintess, and so forth.
"Besides, this is no normal wedding. If you are cleaning the house, you ought to do it thoroughly. Simple eradicating the feelers of the demons won’t do, we need to cut their head, and by head, I also an the first prince who had fallen to the temptation of the demons".
"!!!"
The Dark Knight’s words caused Reinhardt to open his eyes wide. The first prince’s identity was a little unique as he was not only the heir closest to the throne, he was also a level 9 extre knight leading a knight order.
For such a person to have thrown their lot with the likes of the demons, it was a huge matter. While level 9 might not be as rare as level 10, they were still countable few even if one took into account all of the small and big human kingdoms.
Every level 9 knight was a strategic powerhouse that was extrely important. Losing such a person to the demons was a big blow. Not to ntion the person Vaerion was talking about was the first prince of the kingdom.
Political power, military strength, and people’s support, the combination was bad news.
"The Hellmarshal has already noticed the presence of two Demon Generals, dozens of high ranking demons, and thousands of mid ranking demons. Although we know they are hiding all over the kingdom and lying low, we are waiting for the true mastermind to show its face".
Eradicating these henchn won’t achieve anything. They are just like a lizard’s tail, disposable pawns.
That said, if there were two Demon Generals and more than a dozen of high ranking demons involved, then they are most definitely being led by an old or ancient demon, probably even a big personality like the heavenly King might also show up.
"Do you know why I planned my wedding so grandly, even to the point of inviting the king and queen of foreign kingdoms?"
Just like his title, Vaerion was not so keen on attracting people’s attention. In fact, if he could, he would have been content with doing just a small wedding. However, as he was marrying the princess, that was not an option.
In the end though, he did agree to a big wedding; in fact, he insisted that they make it as big as possible. He had only one reason for that.
"You are planning on using your own wedding as bait to lure out the demons?" At those words from Rienahrdt, Vaerion smiled fiercely and nodded his head.
"I’m sure those demons are waiting for a chance. Since they want one, I will give them one and clean the house of all the filth".
The Dark Knight had a determined face. He was fully aware of what kind of risks his plan involved and what would happen if a demon of such high rank really did get lured. Probably the entire capital might get razed.
Nevertheless, he was still going with it, which just went off to show how determined he was in this fight against demonkind. That said, his plan was really excellent. The wedding of a level 10 hero, the chance to kill one of the guardians of humanity it possessed such allure that it managed to even attract the Twelfth Heavenly King.
Reinahrdt recalled the conversation he heard back in that underwater ruin. The demon ntioned the na of the Twelfth Heavenly King, Skarnyx. That said, the plan seed too good to be true.
"What are the chances that the demons know this is a trap?"
Reinahrdt questioned, taking a sip from his wine. A wedding of a big hero, nurous kings, and influential people gathering in one place. It was like asking to be attacked.
The demons weren’t fools; they were cunning beings, probably even more cunning than the human. They would definitely sense that sothing was wrong.
