The silence within the forest did not last long. Elara’s last words were still hanging in the air, but the tension those words had created had reached a point that could no longer be carried. Kael’s gaze had not changed, yet it was very clear that sothing within him had shifted. This was not the silence of soone retreating. This was the silence of soone who had already made a decision.
Rowan was the first to feel it. Even the smallest muscle movent in Kael’s body revealed his intent. This ti there would be no talking. This ti words would give way to action.
Elara realized she was holding her breath. The Moon within her was still, as if it had been waiting for this exact mont. This silence was not the calm before a storm. This was the mont of standing at the center of it.
Kael moved. This ti his motion was not controlled like before. He closed the distance in a single move, but his target was not Rowan, it was Elara.
When Rowan moved to intervene, he did it without thinking. This was not a reflex. This was a decision coming from sowhere between instinct and awareness. As he cut off Kael’s path, the collision between them beca inevitable. This was no longer a test, they were not asuring limits. This was an open attack.
Kael did not hold back his power this ti. Rowan felt the difference instantly. He maintained his balance at the first impact, but he had been shaken seriously. Kael was more aggressive this ti and moved toward Rowan with the intention to harm. This ti, the shaken Rowan found himself dragged across the ground. It was as if Kael was releasing all of his anger on Rowan. He knew he had to eliminate Rowan to reach Elara. He expected Rowan to step back, but Rowan did not retreat.
This was not sothing Kael had planned. As the two bodies locked against each other, the energy within the forest began to change. Elara was the first to feel it. This was no longer just a fight between two people. This was a conflict forming around her.
"Elara," Kael said, forcing Rowan back. His voice was sharper this ti, more impatient. "It doesn’t have to be like this." But there was no offer within those words, there was imposition.
Elara took a step forward consciously, at least she thought it was conscious, but she did not know its consequences. The Moon spirit within her suddenly rose. This rise happened sowhat uncontrollably. Elara’s eye color changed. They turned into a talisman-like full moon orange.
Kael and Rowan saw the beginning of this change. And this— encouraged Kael to push forward even more. Rowan, anwhile, was only concerned about whether Elara was okay.
When Kael forced Rowan back with a harsh movent, sothing inside Elara reacted. This was not an explosion. It was more like a wave. An unseen yet tangible force entered between Kael and Rowan. Both of them were forced to stop for a mont.
Kael’s eyes shifted to Elara. And this ti— he realized that this was not the Elara he knew. There was nothing familiar in that gaze. She looked like soone new, soone entirely different. "Elara..." he said, but this ti there was hesitation in his voice.
Elara did not speak. The Moon inside her was no longer silent. But it was not speaking either. Instead, it was amplifying Elara’s emotions. Not her fear.
Rowan slowly stood up. Without taking his eyes off Kael, he stood beside Elara. This ti he did not step in front of her. This ti he stood with her. This small difference— did not escape Kael’s attention.
"You think you can control this," Kael said, his voice hardening again. But this ti there was sothing else beneath that hardness.
Elara heard it. But it did not stop her, nor the Moon spirit. "No," she said. And this ti her voice was much stronger. "But I’m learning."
This sentence ant more than Kael had expected. Because this was not a challenge. This was progress. For Kael, this was very clear. And this— was the first thing that truly stopped him. Because Elara was no longer where he had left her. She had gone beyond it.
The power of the Moon spirit was also affecting the wolves around Elara. Elara realized this for the first ti while her powers were this intense. Kael turned to Rowan. "Stop being a pathetic creature trying to claim what is already mine," he shouted. The Moon spirit was bringing Kael’s anger and jealousy to the surface.
Rowan found himself shifting between anger and pity. The Moon spirit had started to trigger Rowan’s emotions as well. To calm himself, he reminded himself why he was here. "Elara!"
Kael had now completely given in to his anger. Gathering his strength, he charged toward Rowan. But the result was not what they had expected. Because Elara was experiencing a surge of power within a tallic orange aura. This energy pushed both Kael and Rowan aside.
Rowan shouted, "Elara!" He was close to her, but he felt that he needed to make his voice reach Elara’s heart. Because what he was seeing did not seem to belong to Elara.
Elara was alone with her inner voice. On one side, Kael’s relentless attempts to claim her, on another, the bond of trust and the growing romance she was trying to build with Rowan, on another, the Moon spirit she needed to learn but that also had the power to destroy her, and on yet another, the World Governnt and the Ancient Order she had only just learned about, both seeking to control her...
In the distance, Adrian watched this scene and for the first ti beca truly interested. This was no longer an observation. What was happening was an opportunity for Adrian. "Of course..." he whispered to himself. Before Elara learned to control her power, he needed to take her to the World Governnt. But his curiosity toward Elara and his desire to control this power were turning Adrian into an agent lingering just a little longer.
The wind in the forest shifted direction. The leaves moved more violently. And in that mont— nothing had broken, but everything was ready to break.
