Chapter 63: Kill

Both Lia and Seraphina frowned at the unusual word.

They obviously didn’t understand what awakening ant.

Lucian, seeing that, explained.

“By awakening, I ant…” his words trailed off slightly.

For the first ti since he had started explaining, he hesitated.

“How should I explain it?” He muttered lightly, confused.

He crossed his arms and tilted his head slightly as he leaned against the couch.

Both of them waited patiently for him to gather his thoughts.

“Okay… let’s start like this,” Lucian began, exhaling slowly.

“After I killed the goblin, I go—”

“Wait!!”

Lia’s voice sliced through the room.

She shot forward and grabbed his arm abruptly, stopping him from continuing further.

“W-What do you an by kill the goblin?”

Lucian froze.

His brain stopped for half a second.

‘Right,’ he realised.

‘I forgot about that.’

He wanted to slap himself for making such a blunder.

He had completely forgotten about that part.

He had said it so casually, but to them, that single sentence was an earthquake that shook both of them.

But still, he nodded slowly.

“I killed it.”

The words fell heavy between them.

Lia’s eyes widened. Her mouth fell open as she stamred to form words.

“A-are y-you kidding ?”

Even Seraphina’s eyes widened.

Again, everything was very hard to process for both of them.

And they weren’t in the wrong either.

Think about it, your brother or sister cos ho and tells you that the world has gone to shit and everything has totally, literally, and figuratively gone to shit.

The world has monsters right now, sothing we’ve only seen or heard in a genre called fantasy.

And that genre has been integrated into the reality genre.

How could anyone believe them?

And to top it off, they tell you that they have killed a monster.

Kill.

A word that everybody flinches as soon as they hear it. Not literally, but when you learn that soone you know has killed soone, or sothing.

What would be your reaction?

Will you laugh and say good job?

Or will you be horrified?

Aside from so ntally imbalanced people, everyone will be horrified.

And that was what Lia and Seraphina were going through.

Lia’s body trembled visibly as she heard it.

“Pl-please tell y-you are j-joking,” she whispered.

Her voice cracked as she thought about her brother going to jail for committing a cri.

Yes, she was worried about that.

For a brief mont, she had even forgotten that monsters had arrived in the world, and morality might be the last thing to worry about.

Forgotten that society itself might already be collapsing.

Seraphina, however, forced herself to breathe.

Her mind was racing too, but she clung to clarity.

She was saner and smarter than Lia.

She sowhat understood the aning of his words. The need for it, even though it shook her deeply from the inside.

But she took a deep inhale, then exhaled.

Her posture remained calm, composed, if not for the trembling hand—resting on her thigh—that clutched against the fabric of the clothing tightly.

‘Everything is going too fast,’ she thought to herself.

It felt like the ground beneath her life had cracked open overnight.

“What happened after that?” she asked finally.

Her words startled Lia.

“Aren’t you going to ask him about—?!” Lia blurted out loudly.

Seraphina didn’t say anything to her.

She didn’t raise her voice. She didn’t scold.

She just turned to her coldly, and that alone was enough to shut her up.

Lia gritted her teeth as the words died in her throat.

She knew that she was being annoying right now.

She knew she wasn’t helping.

But she couldn’t help it.

Her jaw tightened, and without realising it, she clenched her fingers harder into Lucian’s arm.

Her nails dug into his skin.

Lucian winced slightly.

It wasn’t dramatic—but was enough for her to notice.

Her eyes widened in horror.

She imdiately pulled her hand back.

“S-Sorry,” she mumbled, lowering her head quickly.

Lucian and Seraphina both sighed.

“I’m sorry, Lia,” Seraphina said gently this ti, her voice softening.

“But let Lucian continue first.”

Lia nodded ekly and leaned closer to him again, rubbing her fingers where her nails had dug in.

Lucian gave her a small, reassuring smile.

He briefly t her eyes—letting her know he wasn’t angry—before turning back to Seraphina.

“So, as I said,” he continued quietly, “after killing the goblin, I awakened.”

Both of them frowned again.

The shock of him killing it hadn’t even fully settled—and now this.

Awakened.

“What does that even an?” Lia asked, her voice quieter now.

Lucian hesitated only briefly before continuing.

“Think of it like a ga,” he said.

“A ga where you do the quest and get a reward.”

Lia nodded imdiately, and Seraphina, on the other hand, took a few seconds to understand.

It was natural, since she hadn’t played any video gas all her life.

Her idea of a “ga” was sothing like chess or cards.

Lucian noticed her confusion and added gently,

“You do sothing difficult. Then the ga system acknowledges it and gives you sothing in return. It’s like that.”

Seraphina slowly nodded.

“So,” he continued, choosing his words carefully, “after I killed the goblin… I received sothing.”

He paused.

“Powers. Strength that goes beyond normal human limits.”

Lia’s eyes widened so dramatically that it almost looked comical.

“So you can shoot laser beams or sothing like that.”

Lucian’s lips twitched despite everything.

“No, I don’t exactly know that.”

He sighed before narrating everything he understood about the status window, the rank, affinity, and talent.

He told them about the ranking system—but only the surface of it. Just enough to make it believable without revealing that he knew more than he should.

He only told the parts that made him look like he had just found them out.

He couldn’t directly tell them that there was a ranking system, and all the other things he knew since that might make them even more suspicious than they already were. Although there wasn’t much he knew either.

He was truly a novice in this, but he made up for it with his previous life knowledge.

Lia had her mouth hung open as she heard what he told her.

The things he was saying sounded ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous.

If soone had told her this yesterday, she would’ve laughed in their face and told them to get off the internet.

It was like telling them that he could fly in the sky at supersonic speed through the sky and shoot laser beams with his eyes.

That was how absurd it felt.

Even Lucian felt sowhat embarrassed, telling them all of this.

He felt heat creep up his neck as he spoke.

He knew he sounded insane.

He knew he did, but he still forced himself to continue.

He explained how killing the goblin had triggered the awakening.

After about ten minutes of explaining, he finally stopped.

The room fell completely silent.

Lia had already muted the TV earlier, so this ti, there was actual silence.

Lucian finally let out a long sigh as he finished his weird yet important explanation, where he had to be careful as well, to give them enough knowledge to know about the world and what was going to happen.

Lia even asked him to show her his status.

But the thing was, Lucian didn’t know if that was possible.

He asked Akasha about it, and she said it wasn’t possible. Only he was able to access his own information, and no other person could see it without special thods.

Lucian told Lia that he couldn’t, but she still insisted that he make the status screen appear before him.

She wanted to test whether she could see it.

Lucian simply smiled at her childish behaviour and did as she asked.

But to her disappointnt, she truly couldn’t, even though she didn’t actually know whether a status window was present before them.

She even waved her hand at the screen after Lucian pointed to where it was.

Seraphina’s lips twitched again as she looked at the two of them enjoying themselves, while her mind was still struggling to process everything that had happened.

Those words were weird to her.

Goblin. Awakening. Status Screen. Rank.

All these words were sothing that she had never heard in her life, and it was taking a bit of ti to understand them.

Thankfully, Lucian had explained everything to her in detail—slowly and patiently—making it sowhat easy to understand.

She released a long, heavy sigh, drawing both of their attention toward her.

Both of them had almost forgotten about the situation they were currently in.

Lucian couldn’t believe he had almost forgotten about the apocalypse because of his cute and overly curious sister.

Seraphina started.

“Can we get back… mmph.”

Lucian’s hand suddenly covered her mouth, startling her.

Her eyes widened in shock as she stared at him.

She hadn’t even realised when he had moved.

His movent had been swift.

Sothing even he didn’t notice.

His reflexes had improved more than he realised.

He removed his hand imdiately and placed a finger over his lips.

“Shh.”

Seraphina frowned, but nodded silently.

Lucian’s brows knitted together as he tilted his head slightly.

“Can you hear it?” he asked softly.

Both of them frowned as they tried to listen to what he was referring to.

But there was only silence.
