When he saw Xia Yuge walking gracefully towards him, Liang Jiuchen’s expression froze for two seconds and then quickly adjusted to mask his surprise.
"Yu Ge, long ti no see, welco to my birthday party."
He took two champagne glasses from a tray held by a waiter, handing one to Xia Yuge and keeping one for himself.
Xia Yuge chuckled softly as she took the champagne glass from him, a fleeting, inscrutable smile crossing her face. She nodded slightly, "It’s been a while, happy birthday."
Due to recent scandals, her company beca frustrated with her and allocated many of her events to other models.
Moreover, her role in a film was cut due to conflicts with the director, who continually gave her a hard ti. This made Xia Yuge clearly understand that she had been too much in the spotlight. Hence, during this ti, she quietly fild, trying to reduce her public appearances outside of work, keeping a very low profile.
"I heard that the movie you were filming has wrapped up, congratulations."
"Thank you." She paused, then slightly raised her chin to sip the champagne gently, catching a glimpse of Liang Jiuchen’s eyes flickering uncertainly.
She thought it amusing, knowing full well what Liang Jiuchen was contemplating and worrying about at that mont.
After a simple exchange of greetings and small talk, the two suddenly fell into silence. Xia Yuge gave him a gentle smile and said warmly, "You should go greet other guests; I’ll go and say hello to my friends."
"Alright." Liang Jiuchen nodded, gave her a friendly smile, and hurriedly stepped past her.
Because of his close relationship with Qin Muni, Liang Jiuchen didn’t particularly like the Xia Yuge who Qin Muni disliked.
After passing by her, all Liang Jiuchen wanted to do was find Qin Muni to tell her that Xia Yuge was here as well.
Qin Muni had just walked to the pool outside when she saw Liang Jiuchen hurrying towards her, with a mysterious expression on his face.
Seeing this, Qin Muni couldn’t help but tease, "Yo, what got you in such a rush?"
Liang Jiuchen lowered his voice and replied quickly, so only the two of them could hear, "Sis, I specifically didn’t invite Yu Ge to the party to spare you any annoyance! Who knew she’d turn up as a friend’s guest."
"Oh." Qin Muni nodded indifferently.
"I have a bad feeling, always felt that woman didn’t co with good intentions. Be careful yourself later."
His nervous and serious deanor amused Qin Muni, "Got it, can’t stand you, hurry up and go greet the guests."
Liang Jiuchen looked up at Xu Yisen, who was already standing behind Qin Muni, gave a suggestive smile and raised his eyebrows at her. Although he said nothing, Qin Muni clearly saw the teasing expression in his eyes.
She rolled her eyes and waved her hand to signal him to hurry on.
Liang Jiuchen grinned at her before stepping forward to Xu Yisen, "Yisen, thanks for coming to the party."
"Happy Birthday."
"Thank you." Finally, he leaned closer to Xu Yisen and said quietly, "Muni is attracting too much attention tonight; keep an eye on her so she doesn’t get swayed away while you’re not looking."
Though it seed like a reminder, the words were full of jest. Before Xu Yisen could reply, he lightly patted Yisen’s shoulder and then walked away.
Xu Yisen squinted slightly as he watched Qin Muni’s figure chatting with others ahead, perhaps because of Liang Jiuchen’s words, an inexplicable tinge of jealousy and possessiveness sprouted in his heart.
