Once dinner ended, Lori, Hannah, and I said goodnight to the guys and Lauren who promised to be back the next day to continue working on the guest house with Lori. We watched a movie with Lori while Marcus and Ed spent so ti discussing things as they had their al in the kitchen. When the movie was over, Hannah and I walked Lori to the guest house.
"We’ll get the rest of your clothes and anything else that you need to be sent here from your father’s house," I assured Lori.
"If you need anything out here just call ," Hannah said to Lori, giving her a hug. Lori promised that she would and went inside the guest house for the night. Hannah and I walked back to the house, holding hands.

"Your father showing up and then Bernard," I said to her. Hannah nodded. "What exactly happened with your father?" I asked her.
"I had to kick him in the balls," Hannah said. I stopped at the elevator and turned to her with a frown.
"Seriously?" I asked her. "I swear to God if court touched you, Hannah," I began but she waved a hand dismissively.
"I handled it, and Ed was ready to step in," Hannah said.

"My father said the dumbest thing," Hannah told . "He disowned . He said he was cutting from the will."

"Court and Bernard have seen us now," Marcus interjected. "I had Bernard followed when he left here, but my team didn’t see any signs of suspicious activity."
"We can’t risk it though," Ed added. "We want to get inside The Auction House soon. We can’t wait around here for Fitzgerald to catch wind of us."
"What’s the plan?" I asked Marcus.
"We’re thinking of sending so of our security guys in to do a recon," Marcus said. "Throw out so bulls**t bids and report back to us."

"Let them do their jobs, Roman," Hannah said to . "Please, don’t try to get involved."
"She’s right," Ed said. "We’ll send our guys in and keep you two posted."
"So, you just want to tighten security at the front gate?" I asked Marcus and Ed.
"That’s the idea," Ed said. "We don’t want you having anymore surprise visits."
"I don’t want those surprise visits either," Hannah said, squeezing my hand. I t her gaze and returned the gesture.
"Hannah told about what happened with her father, Ed," I said to him. "She said she gave him what he deserved."
"A swift kick in the balls," Ed said, nodding.
"Damn," Marcus said. "I wish I had been here for that."
"No, you really don’t," Hannah said to Marcus. "My father is a pathetic man."
"She told so sad s**t about Court Macalester," Ed said.
I turned to Hannah. "What’s he talking about?" I asked her. Hannah told about the verbal and physical abuse that she saw her grandfather constantly giving to her grandmother, her mother, and to Court. "Like father, like son," I said, pulling Hannah close to and hugging her.
"That’s rough," Marcus said. "No wonder Court Macalester has turned out the way he is."
"I’ll have Geoffrey handle the gate," I said to Marcus and Ed. "If that’s all you need, my wife and I are going to bed."
"By all ans," Marcus said. Hannah and I stood and bid the two agents goodnight before leaving them in the study.
"That must have been hard to see as a child," I said to Hannah once we were in the corridor.
"I had nightmares," Hannah said. "I’ve never talked about it, but now that I’m away from my father I feel like I’m in a safe place. I never realized how much I was holding inside." I hugged Hannah before we made our way to the elevator and back to our bedroom. We undressed and slipped into bed. I held Hannah as she talked to about the terrible things her father had done and said to her and her siblings as children. Court was a troubled man full of hatred and malice. It was unclear to whether he truly loved his children or not.
"I’m glad you can talk to , Hannah," I said, stroking her hair. "I want you to know that I’m here for you."
"I know, Roman," Hannah said and we lay together silently until I could hear the gentle sounds of Hannah’s breathing as she slept. I lay there, holding her and thinking about the things she had seen while living under her father’s roof. I wished Court hadn’t seen a di of the money that I had paid for Hannah at The Auction House. That man deserved to be penniless. I hoped that Freddy and Edward had the strength to turn their backs on their father one day for how he was forcing them to live just to get their portion of his business and his will. It made beyond thankful to have been raised by loving parents in a stable household. I wanted to create that loving and safe space for Hannah, to help her heal from the trauma she had experienced.
