Old Master Huangpu smiled. Chu Ge was his lifesaver; now that they were visiting him at this hour, there had to be sothing important.
"I wonder what brings you here today, Mr. Chu, Elder Jian?"
Old Master Huangpu sat down on the sofa, poured tea for the two of them, and asked curiously.
"It’s actually nothing much. The purpose of our visit this ti is simply to discuss one matter with you, Old Master Huangpu."
Jian Chunqiu spoke very calmly. He glanced sideways at Chu Ge, still a little worried that Chu Ge might give sothing away, but looking at him now, with that naturally composed expression, he felt his worries had been unnecessary.
Chu Ge might not know martial arts, but in another tiline he had been a man of so standing. He had seen big scenes; facing such a relatively ordinary occasion, he naturally wouldn’t be overwheld.
"What is it you want to discuss?" Old Master Huangpu asked curiously. Never mind how casually Elder Jian put it—if it was enough to trouble the two of them to co together, it definitely wasn’t sothing simple.
At this mont, Huang Puchen walked out from the dining room. He strode over to the sofa and sat down, crossing one leg over the other, his gaze deep and cold as he stared at Chu Ge, eyes full of hostility.
Facing Huang Puchen’s direct stare, Chu Ge seed indifferent. The corners of his lips curved slightly; he didn’t say much, just gave a faint smile, pretending it was a greeting.
"I heard your company is developing a new drug."
Jian Chunqiu went straight to the point. He wasn’t the nagging type, and the Old Master in front of him was a man who had once fought on real battlefields. Although now he appeared kind and benign on the surface, that inner pride and free-and-easy spirit could never be erased.
Jian Chunqiu knew this, so he didn’t bother with small talk. Going directly to the point would make his words more effective.
Chu Ge glanced sideways at Jian Chunqiu. He’d been dragged along to see Old Master Huangpu, but hadn’t known what Jian truly planned to do. Hearing him bring up the new drug now, a bad premonition welled up in his heart.
Old Master Huangpu looked at Jian Chunqiu in confusion. He hardly interfered with company affairs anymore; he had already handed over power to Huang Puchen and Chairman Zhang and rarely concerned himself with such matters.
Sure enough, when Chairman Zhang heard Jian Chunqiu ask about the new drug developnt, she also stood up. She walked over, sat on the sofa, looked at Jian Chunqiu with a smiling gaze, and said, "Elder Jian, what, are you also interested in our project?"
Jian Chunqiu chuckled along. "Chairman Zhang, you’re joking. I’m just a carefree outsider; I’m not interested in this kind of R&D."
Chairman Zhang looked at Jian Chunqiu in puzzlent. "Then, Elder Jian, what do you an by coming to see my father?"
Jian Chunqiu raised a hand and rubbed his nose. "I didn’t co to get involved in your research. I ca to ask you about sothing."
"Oh?" Old Master Huangpu looked at Jian Chunqiu suspiciously. "Ask about what?"
Jian Chunqiu took an envelope from his chest. It was made of kraft paper, with a brush-written signature on it. "This is an anonymous letter I received on my way to Feng City. As for what’s written inside, I’d like all of you to read it yourselves."
Old Master Huangpu took it from him in confusion. The envelope had already been opened; clearly Jian Chunqiu already knew what was inside.
He opened it and glanced at it. The content was simple, only a few sentences, but when Old Master Huangpu saw what was written, his expression turned rather ugly.
Chairman Zhang watched him from the side, puzzled, and asked, "Dad, what does the letter say?"
Old Master Huangpu pressed his lips together. He tossed the letter to Chairman Zhang and said, "See for yourself."
Seeing the Old Master’s face looking so bad, Chairman Zhang was very confused. She took the letter and glanced at it. The mont she saw the contents, her expression also darkened at once.
"Elder Jian, is this true?" Chairman Zhang stared at Jian Chunqiu in shock, her eyes full of disbelief.
Huang Puchen looked blankly between Chairman Zhang and Old Master Huangpu. "Mom, Grandpa, what are you talking about? What’s written in that letter?"
Chairman Zhang frowned and gave Huang Puchen a look, then let out a soft sigh.
She didn’t speak. Old Master Huangpu opened his mouth instead. "The letter says that the new drug we’re developing is actually a Poison, a sche of the Palace Master of Wufeng Palace."
Huang Puchen pressed his lips tightly together. He glanced sideways at Chu Ge and Jian Chunqiu. Although Chu Ge had previously helped cure the Old Master’s illness, to him, all that talk of Wufeng Palace, Miracle Recovery—those were nothing but nonsense.
Who knew what crooked tricks Chu Ge had used to barely pull the Old Master’s condition back? And now he’d co to take the chance to infiltrate their conglorate—who knew what his real agenda was!
Huang Puchen’s lips remained tightly pressed. He was full of hostility toward Chu Ge and rejected him from the bottom of his heart.
Chu Ge saw it all and only sneered inwardly, saying nothing on the surface.
"I don’t know if the information is reliable, but I do know that if this really involves Wufeng Palace, then I’d advise you not to proceed with this project."
This was his real reason for coming.
Chu Ge listened from the side, also shaken. He’d heard Li Hua and the others talk about Wufeng Palace quite a bit recently, and he had already ford a new concept of them in his mind.
But he himself was now involved in this project, and the Huangpu Family had even carried it out according to his plan.
He hadn’t read the letter, so he didn’t know exactly what it said, but from the expressions on those two faces, he could tell that whatever was in that envelope was not good news.
"Elder Jian, you also know we’ve invested a huge amount into developing this new drug. If we stop halfway now, we’ll take a serious hit."
Chairman Zhang said, distressed.
"If what’s written in this letter is true, I’m afraid you’ll be forced to stop by then anyway."
Jian Chunqiu said, "Right now this matter hasn’t been confird, so I can’t say for sure what’s going on."
Huang Puchen was a little displeased. "Since you haven’t figured it out yet, why co to us and say this?"
Faced with his disrespectful attitude, Jian Chunqiu just smiled and didn’t take it to heart.
But Old Master Huangpu was sowhat unhappy. "Ah Chen, what kind of tone is that? You are not allowed to be disrespectful to Elder Jian!"
Reprimanded by his grandfather, Huang Puchen snorted sullenly and said nothing more.
Old Master Huangpu said to Jian Chunqiu, "Elder Jian, don’t mind him. Ah Chen is just anxious, that’s all."
"It’s fine, I won’t mind."
Nangong Yang had been sitting in the dining room the whole ti, conflicted about whether to go out or not, feeling very tangled inside.
In the end, it was the Housekeeper who ca to her side and said softly, "Miss Nangong, Madam is asking you to co out."
