"What was that?" the police asked, looking at Song Zhaodi with so suspicion.

Song Zhaodi forced a smile. "It... it might be a jar. It's nothing."

"Isn't your house empty? How could there be a noise like that?"

Song Zhaodi's family only consisted of an elderly man on the verge of death, now paralyzed in bed and unable to move.

So the noise couldn't possibly have been made by him.

The police imdiately led their n inside.

"Mom, Da Huang is gone." Second Child had been focusing entirely on his mother, but upon hearing the noise and turning around, he noticed Da Huang was missing.

Startled, he quickly tugged at Si Nian.

Si Nian's heart skipped a beat. Could it be Da Huang?

She hurried in after them, only to see the group walking into the kitchen.

Song Zhaodi walked quickly at the front. As soon as she entered, she saw Si Nian's large dog had sohow gotten into her kitchen. In front of it was a shattered earthen jar scattered across the floor. Before she even had ti to feel afraid, she heard the footsteps behind her and quickly bent down to pick up the pieces.

Several officers looked at the dust scattered all over the floor and asked in confusion, "What is this?"

"This is dicinal powder I ground up for my father-in-law. An old traditional Chinese dicine doctor prescribed it. I ground so up in my spare ti and kept it in here," Song Zhaodi said, pointing to the dicine on the stove that had been boiled countless tis.

The group exchanged glances, sighing softly. With so much powder, how long must that have taken to grind?

When they searched earlier, they had seen Song Zhaodi's father-in-law. He was already breathing his last and probably wouldn't live much longer.

In this day and age, how many won would stay behind to dutifully care for their in-laws after their husband died?

They couldn't help but feel a bit of admiration for her.

It seed they had misunderstood the situation.

Thinking this, the n prepared to leave.

Si Nian, following from behind, saw Da Huang and scolded him.

"Da Huang, co here."

Da Huang, oblivious to the trouble he caused, wagged his tail and walked over to her. He had sothing in his mouth and offered it to her like a prize.

Confused, Si Nian reached out to take it. Upon closer inspection, it was actually a human finger bone!

"Ah!"

She let out a terrified scream, throwing the bone away as if she had been shocked by electricity.

She was trembling with fear!

The officers followed the trajectory, and once they saw clearly what it was, their expressions drastically changed.

...

Zhou Yueshen had just returned ho when he noticed the commotion at the Song family's house.

He had just seen Lin Sisi hurriedly running away with her head down, and thought she had co to cause trouble for Si Nian again.

Now, just as he reached the door, he heard Si Nian's terrified scream coming from the Song house.

He imdiately sprinted inside.

The Song family's kitchen was full of people. Song Zhaodi was surrounded by officers, while Si Nian stood by the door, her face deathly pale.

He strode forward, grasping her shoulders and looking her up and down. "Nian Nian, what's wrong?"

Si Nian's stiff body slumped into Zhou Yueshen's arms, her fingertips still trembling.

Zhou Yueshen watched the officers digging through the shattered jar to pull out fragnts of bone, and instantly understood what was going on.

An officer walked over and said, "This comrade must have been badly frightened. Are you her husband?"

Judging by their body language, he had made an educated guess.

Zhou Yueshen nodded slightly and asked, "What happened?"

The officer briefly explained the situation and said, "This place is going to be cordoned off now. Outsiders aren't allowed in. You two should go back and rest. If we have any questions later, we'll co find you."

Zhou Yueshen nodded.

He wrapped an arm around Si Nian and led her out.

He shot a cold, stern glare at Da Huang. "Da Huang, go back."

Da Huang, still oblivious to what had happened, shivered in fear and quickly chased after them.

Zhou Yueshen guided Si Nian back ho. The very first thing he did was take her to the bathroom and turn on the water to wash her hands.

The officer had just told him that she had touched a dead person's bone.

She was terrified.

Right now, her arms and legs were devoid of strength.

Zhou Yueshen lathered up so soap and gently rubbed her hands.

A dead person's bone, let alone Si Nian, even a grown man would be scared if he touched one.

Zhou Yueshen's expression was solemn, but his voice was extrely gentle. "Don't be afraid. Let's go inside."

He wiped her hands clean while holding her in his arms to soothe her.

A bit of color returned to Si Nian's face, though her lips remained pale. Her heart was still pounding wildly, and her stomach was churning with a wave of nausea.

At this mont, it felt as if her lost soul had finally returned to her body.

She murmured a soft response and leaned against the man as they went into the room.

Zhou Zedong had heard the commotion outside. Coming out and seeing Si Nian's pale face, he imdiately ran over and asked worriedly, "Mom, what's wrong?"

"I'm fine." Si Nian shook her head. The discomfort in her heart had already dissipated quite a bit.

Perhaps having her family by her side gave her strength.

Zhou Yueshen half-carried her into the living room, sat her down on the sofa, and went to the kitchen to pour her a glass of water. He brought it to her lips. "Drink so water."

Si Nian nodded and took a few sips from his hand.

Her heartbeat finally began to slow.

Just then, Second Child returned, pulling Da Huang along.

Second Child ca running over with heavy footsteps. "Mom, are you okay?"

He didn't know what had happened earlier either; he had just heard Si Nian scream.

By the ti he snapped out of it, the whole scene was in chaos, and he had been pushed out of the way.

Then his dad ca running in from outside and carried his mom away.

He was still a bit dazed.

Da Huang hid behind him, taking tiny, tentative steps into the house. He kept shooting side-glances at the sofa, his hind legs trembling as he walked.

When Zhou Yueshen's gaze swept over him, the dog's legs shook even harder.

He could barely stand steady. His tail was tucked between his legs, and his ears were pinned flat against his head.

He held one front paw up, unsure whether to put it down or not, twitching it in the air every so often.

The sight was rather comical.

Si Nian had been quite angry, but seeing his terrified deanor, she couldn't bring herself to stay mad.

She looked up at Zhou Yueshen; his expression was as dark as deep water.

Da Huang only dared to peek at his face out of the corner of his eye, too afraid to look at him directly.

"I'm fine. Don't be like this, don't scare him." She gently tugged at Zhou Yueshen's hand.

Da Huang hadn't really done anything wrong, except for suddenly bringing her a finger bone. Truth be told, Si Nian had been frightened out of her wits at the ti.

But thinking back on it now, he hadn't done it on purpose.

Dogs naturally had very sensitive noses; otherwise, military dogs wouldn't exist.

Si Nian just hadn't expected that Da Huang would actually find a corpse.

No wonder he kept trying to sneak into the Song family's house.

Zhou Yueshen withdrew his gaze and gave a soft hum of acknowledgnt.

He lowered his eyes to et hers. Sunlight danced in her eyes, making them look incredibly soft.

He held her just a little bit tighter.

"It's alright now."

Si Nian nodded.
