Waiting together with them were at least several hundred thousand enthusiastic citizens. The cold December winter couldn’t dampen the heat of people’s enthusiasm. Xia Siyu actually isn’t that fond of fireworks. What she enjoys is the feeling of mixing with the crowd, the pleasure of living life freely. Life is about stirring things up; making her stay alone in one place for a long ti wouldn’t drive her insane, but her vigor would certainly be insufficient. After being with Bo Yan, sharing craziness together, and especially with so many enthusiastic citizens joining their frenzy, it felt as if their happiness was doubled.
The earliest fireworks were invented in China. This country, which first invented gunpowder and saw the birthplace of the matchlock gun, eventually turned to using gunpowder for fireworks. It is undeniable that, compared to Heidelberg, the variety and completeness of fireworks here are superior. While Heidelberg mainly offers an exotic atmosphere, when it really cos down to the beauty of fireworks, one must return to China to see them.
In fact, today both Bo Yan and Xia Siyu had received invites for shows. New Year’s Eve is pri ti for major galas, and not just galas but also so fashion events. Both Bo Yan and Xia Siyu are top-tier celebrities; despite neither of them being singers by trade, many show organizers sought them out, hoping they would take the stage like they did for the Double Sticks Festival gala.
However, both Xia Siyu and Bo Yan simultaneously played the “filming” card, refusing any engagents. On Xia Siyu’s end, so ads and magazine shoots were okay, but Bo Yan turned everything down to focus on being with her.
The two of them snuggled together watching fireworks, while Song Fengzhi and Wei Jingjing tirelessly tried to squeeze through the crowd to get closer to them, not to be a third wheel but purely as protectors. But the crowd was too dense and not giving them any chance to push through.
They tried for a long ti to reach them, but couldn’t; and because they had to squeeze so hard, they were forced to stand very close to each other. From the outside, they also looked like a couple.
Fireworks burst in clusters and bunches, so ascending individually, while others rushed forward as a collective troop. So fireworks were tid to start off with a group of smaller ones laying the groundwork before a spectacularly radiant one followed.
So fireworks would send down little parachutes. Fearing that the crowd would trample each other trying to collect them, thankfully as they were set off over a river, the parachutes, being biodegradable, directly landed in the water with a glow, resembling little boats.
They even set off numbers, from zero to nine, every digit appearing in the sky, very lifelike, followed by the sequence “20xx” “12” “31”, as if to imprint the entire event of the day in the sky.
But what excited the couples the most was the English alphabet fireworks, especially a giant heart, together with a series of “I-love-U”. The most brilliant part was, the “I-love-U” was designed as Cupid’s Arrow, piercing through the heart, causing shrieks from the couples below.
Xia Siyu was also shrieking, but with all the noise around, no one heard her screams. Bo Yan simply patted her head. Although Xia Siyu is usually quite lively, watching fireworks together with a crowd like this was clearly more joyful than last ti in Heidelberg.
Especially when the heart and “I-love-U” appeared, so couples couldn’t help but take a selfie against the fireworks, or kiss in the crowd while the fireworks bore witness. There was one couple next to Xia Siyu and Bo Yan. They may not have captured a photo, but they managed to kiss before the fireworks faded.
