"Who says you can only burn incense for the dead? You’re so ignorant."
"Where I co from, we only burn incense after soone dies. Don’t go burning incense for ; I want to live a few more years."
Sienna Johnson glanced at him and said aningfully, "Don’t worry, Sixth Master, you will surely live a long life..."
"You can tell fortunes?" Adrian Desmond asked.
"I can’t, but I know that good people don’t live long, while villains plague the world for a thousand years!"
Adrian Desmond gritted his teeth. "You’ve got so nerve, Sienna Johnson, talking in circles just to scold ! Just you wait, I’ll deal with you."
Sienna Johnson tried to run, but she was wearing high heels that day. Adrian Desmond wrapped one arm around her waist and playfully slapped her bottom with the other. The slaps sounded loud, but they didn’t hurt at all.
"Still dare to talk back?"
"Husband, I won’t dare anymore."
Sienna Johnson nestled into his embrace. Adrian Desmond loved the way she called him "Husband"—sweet and soft, like a feather gently teasing his heart, making it itch with an unbearable longing.
"...Will we be together for the rest of our lives?" Adrian Desmond asked, his voice laced with insecurity.
Sienna Johnson had been about to honestly say, Who knows about things like that... when Adrian suddenly kissed her. He then smiled and said, "But, no matter how many people try to steal you away, I will never let go of your hand in this life! You are mine, from head to toe!"
Sienna Johnson liked his confidence. If only Noah Phillips had possessed Adrian’s kind of "dominance," perhaps their connection would have been deeper...
She didn’t know why Noah Phillips had suddenly co to mind, but she quickly pushed the thought away. Resting her head on Adrian’s shoulder, she whispered,
"I see no one else but you. It’s just the two of us, hand in hand, supporting each other through thick and thin, until forever."
She saw everything he did for her and was deeply touched.
"Yes, we’ll grow old together," Adrian Desmond said.
Under the dim streetlights, they gazed into each other’s eyes, clearly seeing the profound affection within. Perhaps a long road lay ahead, with many twists and turns to face, but as long as their hearts remained connected, they could weather any storm together.
...
Sienna rested on Adrian’s broad back, feeling its warmth and strength. It was a masculine power that made her feel captivated and cherished. Suddenly, she said, "Adrian..."
"Yes?"
"Don’t carry other won on your back. A man’s back is so warm and safe; it’s easy for a woman to develop feelings... I don’t want other won developing feelings for you... Adrian, you can only be mine, from head to toe. Even every strand of your hair is mine." He was possessive, and so was she.
"What about you? Have you developed feelings for ?"
"Yes, I have... Can you feel my heartbeat?" she asked softly, her chest pressing against his solid back.
"I can feel it..." The soft pressure on his back stirred sothing within him, making him a little restless. So this is what being in love feels like, he thought.
Their hearts were in harmony, filled with affection for one another.
"Adrian, I love you."
It’s ’I love you,’ not ’I loved you’... Adrian Desmond tensed for a mont. After what felt like a long pause, he said, "I love you too, Sienna!"
"You won’t hurt again like you did four years ago, will you?" Sienna asked, her voice tinged with insecurity.
"Never!"
"I hold grudges. If you dare betray my feelings again, I will never forgive you, not even when I die! Adrian, I’m only forgiving you this once. If one day you fall in love with another woman, I’ll imdiately find another man and marry him..."
Adrian Desmond didn’t understand why she’d suddenly brought this up and said, displeased, "Let tell you the sa thing. If one day your heart changes, I’ll kill your lover first, then I’ll kill you, and then I’ll kill myself to be with you!"
Sienna laughed. "If you kill yourself, you won’t be thinking of following to hell just to stop from being with my lover, will you?"
"How did you know?"
...
Yvette Harris was now the boss of Southgate Departnt Store.
Life was truly unpredictable. That day, Yvette’s husband had discovered that the son he’d raised for many years wasn’t his. Furious, he had stord off, only to get into a car accident. After several days of ergency treatnt at the hospital, he died.
Yvette, initially terrified, hadn’t expected the man to actually die. Suddenly, riding on her son’s coattails, she had beco the true boss of Southgate Departnt Store.
Yvette Harris replaced all the original servants of the Harris family. Now, only new faces populated the villa; no one knew of her shaful past.
"Sabrina Johnson, what on earth have you been busy with? Look at this..." Yvette Harris tossed a stack of photos in front of her. The pictures showed Sabrina’s husband, Frederick Stewart, with that young starlet.
A chill ran through Sabrina Johnson, and she sat there, her expression utterly dejected.
"What do you plan to do?"
"I don’t know."
Yvette Harris looked at her disappointing daughter with disdain. "Just as I’d expect from soone raised by that useless woman, Pauline Briggs! Look at you, so utterly hopeless! You’re the legitimate wife, and you can’t even handle a re mistress."
"Do you have any good ideas?" Sabrina asked.
"Isn’t it simple? Your husband likes her innocent act, right? Then find soone to ’take care of’ her, turn her into a slut. I’d like to see if Frederick Stewart still fancies her then..."
After gaining power, Yvette spoke more assertively and boldly.
"Sabrina, don’t you dare be like that useless woman, Pauline Briggs! Let tell you, a woman’s heart needs to be ruthless! Vicious, even!"
"...Look at that famous actress, Joyce Golding. She’s doing well now, isn’t she? I’ll tell you, she used to be a prostitute, slept with any man. It’s because she was willing to spread her legs back then, sleep with any man who could be useful to her, that she’s managed to get where she is today."
"..."
"Back then, if I hadn’t been ruthless enough to use my position at the hospital to switch you with Sienna Johnson, do you think you would have lived such a comfortable life all these years? And don’t you bla for being heartless and abandoning you. If I hadn’t been heartless, you would have been a fatherless, illegitimate child... living a miserable life of poverty with ..."
Sabrina Johnson’s biological father was a doctor of Westorian nationality from the hospital where Yvette Harris had worked. Who would have known that he already had a wife and children? When he learned Yvette was pregnant, he simply left. Yvette foolishly believed he would return. It wasn’t until after she gave birth to Sabrina that she discovered he had long since returned to Westoria, never to co back.
If she had known he would never return, Yvette would never have given birth to Sabrina.
Of course, Sabrina Johnson didn’t bla her. She wanted to be the young lady of the Johnson family; she had no desire to be Yvette Harris’s daughter.
"Also, you need to hurry up and have a son. A woman is nothing without a son."
Just thinking about it gave Sabrina Johnson a headache. "You think I don’t want to? I just can’t seem to get pregnant..."
