"He initially disliked Kiki, rember? Who else is to bla?" Adrian Desmond said evasively, his confidence wavering, "Aren’t you always concerned about Kiki’s future? I also quite like Kiki, and coincidentally, I t a suitable, promising young man and introduced him to her. What’s the big deal?"
"Adrian Desmond, let tell you, Kiki seems to have genuinely fallen for Samuel Palr. If Samuel Palr causes any trouble, I’ll hold you responsible."
"There’s absolutely no need to worry about Samuel Palr. He’s a good man; I can vouch for him. If he dares to hurt Kiki, I’ll be the first to deal with him."
Adrian Desmond ca over with the dicine, sat beside her, and said, "Right now, you shouldn’t be worried about Samuel Palr, but rather about Lucas Robertson potentially sabotaging things. That Lucas Robertson is clearly bad news."
"..."
Adrian Desmond harbored deep animosity towards Lucas Robertson, going so far as to say Lucas was one of the people he despised most. "How can a man like that compare to Samuel Palr? He has one woman but is always looking for another. Since he vowed to remain faithful to his fiancée, he should stick to it. I’d even respect him as a man for that. Switching his affections midway—what kind of behavior is that?"
"You shouldn’t criticize others. You used to be like that too, having soone but still looking elsewhere," Sienna Johnson didn’t miss the chance to dig up his past.
Adrian Desmond touched his nose, pretending not to hear.
"Samuel Palr cos from a good family, has no ex-girlfriends, and certainly no ex-fiancée. He’s as clean as a blank slate, a perfect match for a naive girl like Kiki. They’re made for each other!"
"I’ll hold you to that. If Kiki is ever unhappy, I’ll co looking for you."
"Rest assured. Even if not for your sake, but for all the years Kiki has diligently cared for our daughter Curly, I would never treat her badly."
"You realize that too, huh? Kiki takes care of Curly far better than we, her biological parents, ever have." Sienna Johnson sighed with relief.
"Don’t slander . I’m very attentive to our daughter. You’re the one who isn’t. At least, when I promise Curly sothing, I always keep my word. Unlike you, who makes promises to Curly but doesn’t follow through. Don’t you realize you’ve lost all credibility with her?"
This ti, Sienna Johnson looked embarrassed. "...Haven’t I just been too busy lately?"
"You always get your priorities mixed up. How can work be more important than our daughter?"
"I know."
"Here, take your dicine." Adrian Desmond prepared the dicine and handed it to Sienna Johnson. She leaned back, one hand resting on her abdon. Suddenly, a thought flashed through Adrian Desmond’s mind, and he grabbed her hand.
"Don’t take it."
"What’s wrong?"
"Are you pregnant?" Adrian Desmond voiced his suspicion.
"Huh?"
"How long has it been since your last period?"
Sienna Johnson had been so muddled lately that it wasn’t until Adrian Desmond ntioned it that she suddenly rembered her period was late.
Sienna Johnson shook her head. "Impossible. The doctor said that because I didn’t recover well after giving birth to Curly, it would be difficult for to conceive..."
If she was pregnant, so dications were off-limits. Considering even the slightest possibility, Adrian Desmond didn’t dare risk it. What if it caused a birth defect?
Adrian Desmond poured Sienna Johnson a glass of warm water. "The doctor said it would be difficult for you to conceive, not impossible. Besides, I’m your husband, and I’m very potent. So, what’s so strange about you getting pregnant again?"
Sienna Johnson was about to take a sip of water, but the glass froze at her lips as she heard Adrian Desmond’s words. She stared at him in a daze.
"Don’t take any dication for now. I’ll go buy you a pregnancy test."
When Adrian Desmond returned with the pregnancy test, Sienna Johnson numbly took it and went into the bathroom. Then, Sienna Johnson and Adrian Desmond stared at the test stick for a few minutes. Two red lines appeared.
"Am I really pregnant?" Sienna Johnson was in utter disbelief.
Adrian Desmond couldn’t go into the won’s restroom and waited anxiously outside. When Sienna Johnson, pale-faced, handed him the pregnancy test, Adrian Desmond saw the two lines and burst out laughing.
"My diligent efforts in sowing the seeds have finally paid off."
"My schedule has been irregular recently, and as the Receptionist, I even accompanied clients for drinks. We should go to the hospital; I’m a bit worried..." Sienna Johnson said, her voice laced with anxiety. She genuinely hadn’t expected to conceive so quickly.
"Hmm, okay."
"Don’t worry, it’ll be fine. Besides, you already gave birth to Curly, and she turned out perfectly healthy." Seeing her distress, Adrian Desmond took her hand and comforted her.
"It’s just... I didn’t expect to have another child so soon..."
"Do you like the idea?"
Sienna Johnson nodded. "I love it! Adrian Desmond, I really love it! You don’t know, my childhood dream was quite modest: I just wanted to marry a gentle man and have two children, a boy and a girl, to make a ’good’ family."
Adrian Desmond was genuinely overjoyed. He kissed her forehead, and they embraced, basking in the joy of becoming parents for the second ti.
「Sileria City’s Maternal and Child Health Hospital.」
Adrian Desmond accompanied Sienna Johnson for a dical check-up.
While they were waiting for their number to be called, a heavily pregnant woman suddenly burst into loud sobs. Her husband started crying too, which gave Sienna Johnson quite a scare.
"What happened?"
Another pregnant woman nearby said with a regretful sigh, "The baby’s heartbeat stopped. It’s a stillbirth, so they’ll have to induce labor. She was so far along; just a few more months and the baby would have arrived safely."
Sienna Johnson shivered, her face turned pale, and a wave of dread washed over her.
"What’s wrong with you? You weren’t this nervous when you were pregnant with Curly."
How was Sienna Johnson supposed to tell him that when she was pregnant with Curly, she hadn’t really wanted the child? That was a confession she dared not make.
"Number 36, Sienna Johnson."
"Let’s go."
After the examination, the Doctor looked at Sienna Johnson with a serious expression and said, "Your progesterone is very low. If you want to continue the pregnancy, you’ll need progesterone injections. According to the ultrasound report, we can’t rule out an ectopic pregnancy. You’ll need another check-up in a few days."
Sienna Johnson touched her still-flat abdon and stamred, "Is... is it because I drank alcohol?"
The Doctor was clearly surprised that a pregnant woman had been drinking. He looked at Sienna Johnson, frowned, and said, "You drank alcohol while pregnant? It’s not my place to criticize you young people, but why do so of you treat life so carelessly?
"Just this morning, three young girls ca in for abortions, treating it as casually as getting a shot for a cold, completely disregarding the seriousness of it.
"Look at you, you’re not a child anymore. How can you be so irresponsible? It’s one thing if the father is a bit careless, but for you, the mother, to be so negligent? You didn’t even prepare for pregnancy, and then you drank alcohol while pregnant? Pregnant won shouldn’t drink or smoke. Don’t you know that basic fact?"
