"That’s Sixth Brother’s child!"
Sienna Johnson stared at lanie Carpenter’s face. lanie had beco emaciated; the gentle aura she used to carry had disappeared, replaced by a sharp and bitter disposition.
In reality, this woman could have chosen a completely different life. Years ago, when she found out that Adrian Desmond did not love her, she could have let go. Given Adrian’s feelings for her, he would have taken care of her. She would be better off than she is now. But instead, she was determined to cling to Adrian. In the end, she gained nothing, not even the last bit of affection Adrian had for her.
"Say it again, whose child is that?"
"It’s Sixth Brother’s!" lanie asserted firmly. In her heart, Devin Desmond was Adrian’s child.
"No wonder you ended up in the psychiatric hospital. Your brain is truly not normal."
Sienna didn’t know what else to say. It was clear that Devin was not Adrian’s child, yet lanie could tell such a lie without her face changing color.
Sienna swept her gaze over Adrian’s expressionless face, feeling deep sympathy for him. If she were in his shoes, she probably would have died from exasperation by now.
Elliot Carpenter glared at Sienna. "Who are you calling ntally unstable?"
"You, you, all of you in the Carpenter family are unstable!"
She had insulted the entire family!
Under Elliot’s orders, his n drew their guns, and so did Adrian’s. Several guns were pointed at Sienna’s head, while Brett Jacobs and his n pointed their guns at Elliot Carpenter and lanie.
The two groups were at loggerheads. Adrian stepped up to Sienna’s side, shielding her. If anyone dared to shoot, he would be her human shield. He would die before he let anyone hurt this woman!
"lanie Carpenter, are you willing to do a paternity test in front of everyone? If Devin really is Adrian’s child, I’ll give this man to you. I’ll take my daughter and leave, never to step foot in Abyanabad again! If...
Devin is not Adrian’s son, you and your father promise to never bother us again. We will no longer maintain this familial relationship and go our separate ways forever!"
lanie would never agree because Devin was not Adrian’s biological child.
Sienna saw the hesitation in lanie’s eyes and looked down on her, also feeling deep sympathy for Adrian. How did he end up entangled with such a father and daughter?
"Why aren’t you saying anything?"
"..."
"You don’t dare, do you?"
"The marriage between lanie and Adrian was arranged by both families when they were young. It was Adrian who broke his promise! He should marry lanie!" Elliot Carpenter continued to harp on the marriage contract.
"Mr. Carpenter, we are in the 21st century now, and arranged marriages are no longer popular. Never mind a marriage contract; the divorce rates are so high nowadays. Even after getting married, the number of divorces is ever-increasing.
What do you want Adrian to do?
Adrian doesn’t love your daughter. What do you expect him to do?"
"He has to marry my daughter!"
Sienna chuckled coldly. "Fine. As long as Devin is Adrian’s son, Adrian will marry her! Otherwise, Adrian would never settle for a shadow of a once beautiful woman!"
"Who are you calling a shadow of a once beautiful woman!"
"lanie Carpenter!"
Elliot Carpenter stood up abruptly, ready to charge at Sienna and teach this insolent woman a lesson. However, Adrian shielded Sienna firmly behind him.
Sienna was not afraid of Elliot today. With Adrian here, he would not let her suffer. Things had escalated to this point already; they could not maintain this familial relationship. Better to endure a short, sharp pain than a long-term one. They might as well cut to the chase and resolve it once and for all.
"Mr. Carpenter, we are solving problems here. Calm down. Otherwise, we will not be able to continue our discussion."
Elliot looked at the towering figure of Adrian. His massive fra shielded that despicable woman behind him, protecting her from any harm. He sat on the edge of his daughter’s bed, glaring at them.
"...In our country, Orienta, we do not practice polygamy like people in Abyanabad do. Once Adrian marries , he won’t be able to marry anyone else. If he does, I will file bigamy charges against him.
In Orienta, bigamy is punishable by imprisonnt.
So, you can stop trying to match lanie with Adrian."
"Then let’s get a divorce! From the beginning, Adrian was supposed to marry lanie!" Elliot retorted unreasonably.
"In Orienta, we have a saying: a lon plucked by force is not sweet. You are forcing two people together. Sooner or later, they will beco a resentful couple.
Besides, the biological father of your grandson is still alive. And you are trying to find another man for your daughter. You are old, but your thinking is indeed very liberal."
"You are vulgar, your mouth full of foul language. I really don’t know how your parents raised you!"
A hint of displeasure spread across Sienna’s face. "We are talking. Why bring my parents into it? When my father was alive, he would say, ’Speak human language to humans and dog language to dogs. If you’re dealing with a dog and insist on speaking human language, the dog simply won’t understand.’"
Elliot beca completely enraged. "Adrian, is this the woman you chose to be with? She even dares to call a dog!"
"Sienna, he’s my Uncle!" Adrian was not pleased with Sienna’s sharp words.
His hand, reaching out to hold Sienna’s, was brushed away by her.
"While you consider him an uncle, does he treat you like a dear nephew?
Don’t you think there’s nothing serious about being beaten by him today? Let tell you sothing from a professional doctor’s perspective: he was vicious towards you. The places he hit on your head are dangerous...
By the ti I ca, weren’t you starting to feel dizzy?"
"I’m fine..."
Sienna glanced at the man before her disappointedly, saying, "It seems like I’ve made a villain of myself in vain. You and he are relatives, but where do I stand in your heart?"
"What are you overthinking?"
"Delays breed trouble. Today, there must be a resolution!"
"What do you want to resolve?"
Sienna looked at Adrian and asked, "Are you really stupid or pretending to be? Don’t you know their sche?"
"Five years ago, lanie attempted suicide to compel you to marry her. You were indifferent then. Are you thinking of keeping the peace now? Your Uncle and cousin play the bad cop and good cop. Are you going to succumb to their wishes and marry lanie?"
Adrian’s face darkened. "Don’t make such groundless assumptions! I never thought about that!"
"Is it really making groundless assumptions?"
Adrian proclaid, "Except for you, I will not marry any other woman!"
He was saying this not only to Sienna but also showing his attitude to his Uncle and lanie.
"Good, then we can settle everything once and for all today!"
"What do you want to resolve?"
"Your Uncle acts as if he’s doing you a favor. Of course, we have to settle our accounts with your Uncle. Otherwise, your Uncle will call you over every now and then just to beat you up! And this cousin of yours, crying, causing a scene, and threatening to commit suicide."
"..."
"You don’t think it’s botherso, but I do!"
