"I’ll help you!"
"No need!"
As Sienna Johnson chopped the pork filling for wontons, her expression was cold, reminiscent of the woman who once wholeheartedly wanted to leave him.
It must have been his attitude towards the Carpenter Family, hitting her bottom line, that made this clever, cunning, and selfish woman want to retract her affection for him. She was always like this. As soon as she sensed the possibility of being hurt, she’d wrap her heart in a thick shell, isolating herself from everyone. This realization made Adrian Desmond feel wronged and indignant. He had done and sacrificed so much for her, yet she still couldn’t give him her heart completely.
"On my way back, I had soone investigate. If lanie Carpenter is truly behind this..." He saw her stop chopping and look at him, waiting for her response.
"If it is lanie Carpenter, I’ll deal with her the sa way!"
Sienna Johnson sneered, "Then, Sixth Master, you’ll have to find a man for lanie Carpenter! She was drugged; she can’t counteract the drug’s effects on her own."
"..."
"Sixth Master, which man do you plan to find for lanie Carpenter? Are you going to volunteer yourself?"
"Sienna Johnson!" he roared, his fists clenched, his knuckles cracking. If the woman before him weren’t Sienna Johnson, Adrian Desmond would have struck her long ago.
Sienna Johnson continued chopping the at filling, showing no intention of speaking to Adrian Desmond further. He strode forward, snatched the knife from her hand, slamd it onto the cutting board, and, gripping her shoulders, demanded, "What exactly do I need to do to satisfy you?"
"..."
"Don’t give that icy expression. I can’t tell what you’re thinking. Just say it, and I’ll do as you wish."
Sienna Johnson’s eyes were icy as she uttered a single sentence, "If I asked you to sever all ties with the Carpenter Family, would you do it?"
Adrian Desmond replied, "If the paternity test results co back and that man is confird not to be my uncle, I will sever ties with the Carpenter Family."
"I understand the Sixth Master’s aning now."
Sienna Johnson picked up the knife and resud chopping the at filling. The steady THWACK, THWACK, THWACK of the knife on the board echoed in Adrian Desmond’s ears. Clearly, their recent exchange hadn’t satisfied her.
"Sienna, they’re my family too... When I was young, my uncle and I were very close. He’s probably not as amiable as he used to be because he’s been ill for so long... Also, my uncle has always resented because of... my past with lanie Carpenter. That’s why he treated that way...
My uncle is actually a very good person.
For my sake, I hope you can let go of your prejudices and try to get along with him. You’ll discover he’s a good person too..."
"If you want to get along peacefully with your uncle, there is one excellent way," Sienna Johnson said.
"What way?"
"We divorce, and you marry lanie Carpenter!"
Sienna Johnson’s words struck Adrian Desmond like a vicious slap across the face. He took a deep breath, trying his best to remain calm as he said, "Can you please stop being so unreasonable?"
"So now you think I’m being unreasonable? Perhaps you’ve finally realized I’m not as gentle, sweet, and obedient as your cousin, lanie Carpenter?"
"..."
"It seems that before long, the Sixth Master will grow tired of ..."
"Mommy..." Curly’s voice broke the tension between the adults. The mont Sienna Johnson saw her daughter, her strained expression instantly softened, her face lighting up as if clouds had parted to reveal a brilliant sun. This sight left a bitter taste in Adrian Desmond’s mouth. She disliked him that much.
"What did you have for dinner?" Sienna Johnson asked gently.
"I had coconut rice, grilled at, grapes, and strawberries... and after all that, I had a piece of cake! It was a fresh cream strawberry cake that Auntie made, and it was super delicious!"
"You certainly ate a lot."
"Mommy, Daddy, where were you two all day? I didn’t see you at all. You weren’t even here for dinner."
"Mommy had to go to work," Sienna Johnson offered as an excuse.
"Oh." Hearing her mother say that, Curly didn’t press further; Sienna Johnson was indeed always very busy with work.
"Mommy, what are you doing?" Curly asked, noticing the at filling on the cutting board.
"Didn’t you say you wanted wontons the other day? So I chopped so at filling. I’m planning to make you fresh pork wontons for breakfast tomorrow morning."
Curly pouted. "Can you two even get up tomorrow morning? You always sleep in; you don’t get up even when the sun’s been up for ages! If I wait for you to make breakfast, I’ll starve to death."
"I’ll definitely get up early tomorrow, alright?" Sienna Johnson said, looking amusedly at her disgruntled daughter.
"Forget it, forget it. You’re pregnant with my little brother now, and you need more sleep so he can grow big. It’s better if the servant makes breakfast for tomorrow," Curly said sensibly.
Sienna Johnson resud chopping the at filling, glanced at her daughter, and chuckled. "Our Curly is going to be a big sister soon; she’s really beco much more sensible."
"I’m going to be a super aweso sister! I’ll take good care of my brother and protect him!"
With a proud expression, Curly hugged her mother’s large belly and spoke to the baby brother inside, "Little brother, hurry up and co out! Your sister wants to play with you..."
As if responding to Curly, the baby in Sienna Johnson’s belly gave a little kick. Curly exclaid excitedly, "Mommy, my brother is talking to ! He said he’ll co out tomorrow!"
Sienna Johnson laughed. "Your brother can’t co out that soon. If he cos out that early, he’ll be premature, and premature babies aren’t always healthy. Quickly, tell your brother he can’t co out tomorrow."
"Okay, okay." Curly hugged her mother’s belly again and said to the baby inside, "Little brother, Mommy said if you co out tomorrow, you’ll be premature, so you definitely can’t co out tomorrow... Mommy, when can my little brother co out?"
"In about four more months."
"Aww... that long?"
"It’ll go by quickly." Sienna Johnson stroked her daughter’s head, her face full of loving tenderness. Adrian Desmond felt a pang of discomfort; she hadn’t shown him such a warm expression at all earlier.
"Oh! I almost forgot!"
"Daddy, Ernest Turner can’t find his daddy. Can you help Ernest Turner find his daddy?" Curly let go of her mother, turned, ran to her father, and hugged his leg as she asked.
"Who’s Ernest Turner?" Sienna Johnson asked.
"Ernest Turner is Ernest Turner!"
That explained absolutely nothing.
Sienna Johnson looked at Adrian Desmond. He explained, "He’s a little boy Curly rescued."
"Explain clearly. What exactly happened?" Sienna Johnson’s heart skipped a beat. She had a bad feeling this wasn’t a simple matter.
Adrian Desmond knew he couldn’t hide it any longer, so he recounted everything in detail: "Yesterday, at the Carpenter Family’s house, Curly was trying to hide from George. She crawled through a doggy door into the neighbor’s yard and found a little boy who had been kidnapped. So, she rescued him and brought him back."
