What the hell are these people?
"Sixth Master, you... what, what do you want to do?" Reggie Dewey swallowed hard, deeply worried for his own little life.
"This guy said that kind of drug could turn into an idiot. You tell him, will I turn into an idiot or not!" Adrian Desmond said.
As Adrian’s attending physician, Reggie conscientiously explained, "Oh, if you don’t detox, it will burn out the brain nerves. But Sixth Master, hasn’t your poison already been cured?"
"That kind of poison can’t be cured!" the impostor said.
Being questioned like this about his dical skills, Reggie forgot to be afraid and defended his professionalism. "Hey, who says it can’t be cured?
What you just said is a false proposition!
In this world everything restrains and counteracts sothing else; how could there be a poison that can’t be cured? In the Dicitionary of Traditional dicine, for every poisonous herb, there’s always a herb growing nearby that can counteract it.
The poison you just ntioned, I’ve already neutralized it."
"Impossible, nobody can cure that poison!" the impostor said with certainty.
Adrian asked, "Why are you so sure? Because it was developed by Doctor X?"
A flash of surprise quickly passed through the impostor’s eyes, then he imdiately put on a look of knowing nothing and said,
"Who’s Doctor X? I don’t know him."
"You’re with Night Owl?" Adrian asked.
"Who’s Night Owl? I don’t know him."
"Are all Night Owl’s n such cowards? Do it but don’t dare admit it!" Adrian said coldly.
Adrian walked up to him, looking at the impostor in front of him. That face identical to his Uncle’s made Adrian extrely uncomfortable.
"Do you have acid or sothing like that?" Adrian asked Reggie.
"Sixth Master, what are you going to do?"
"I hate his face. I’m going to ruin it!"
Thinking straight, Reggie said, "Sixth Master, that’s against the law!"
Sabrina Conner snorted with laughter. "Believe it or not, I could kill you right here and it still wouldn’t be against the law!"
"Who the hell are you people?"
"Ah, I think I’m an angel—sent by God to save this filthy, sinful world." Sabrina stroked her chin and said sothing astonishing.
The corner of Reggie’s mouth twitched; he decided these were a bunch of lunatics. "I don’t know anything, I didn’t see anything, I’m going back to Sileria City tomorrow.
I won’t help tyrants do evil!"
Adrian said, "You can’t leave now."
"You’re going to kill to shut up?"
"If you don’t listen, we’ll kill you!" Sabrina looked at the short Reggie, her tone gloomy. "My little cuties only ate one arm and they’re still hungry. They can eat up an elephant in thirty‑nine minutes!"
"I don’t know anything, and I won’t say anything to anyone!"
Reggie backed up, only to be shoved back by the two tall, burly n guarding the door. Reggie was about to cry.
"What do you people actually want?"
Reggie stared in horror at the hellish scene in front of him: one man whose arm had been chewed off by termites; a red‑haired man holding a box of termites that had tasted human flesh; and another man looking drained, munching on an apple with a click‑clack.
Of the few people present, the only one who looked remotely normal was Adrian.
But this man had just asked him to go get acid!
"Didn’t you hear Sixth Master’s order? Go get the acid. This guy’s face is too annoying!"
Sabrina looked at Reggie like she was eyeing prey. "Sixth Master hates disobedient people the most. You’re too noisy—might as well kill you."
"I—I’ll go right now!"
Reggie turned and staggered away. lly was standing guard at the basent door. Seeing his deathly pale face, she walked over with a smile.
"Reggie, what’s wrong? You look horrible."
"lly, you should run, quick. You’re all a bunch of lunatics. They... they’re torturing and killing soone in the basent. It’s terrifying..."
lly’s smile was pure and harmless. "So, what are you planning to do next?"
"Of course I’m going to run away..."
Before he finished, a dagger was already pressed against his neck. "Then I can only kill you."
At Desmond Manor, aside from Adolph Desmond, the few old staff there had all co out of the base.
After the traitor Walter Klein, Adrian didn’t trust a single outsider. Everyone transferred from the base had been raised from childhood.
lly and Sally, who had only recently been arranged into Desmond Manor to serve Sienna Johnson, were the sa. Sally had gone back to Sileria City with Sienna, leaving lly alone.
"lly, you..."
"You’re so weak I could crush you to death with one hand." lly had never killed soone this fragile and completely defenseless before.
"..."
"Killing such a useless man like you is kind of embarrassing for !" lly looked troubled as she stared at the man in front of her.
Reggie had finally seen his situation clearly: his little life was seconds away from being snuffed out.
"D‑don’t kill , Sixth Master told to go get acid."
lly stared at Reggie and asked, "Really?"
"I swear, really! Absolutely true!"
"If you dare lie, I’ll slit your throat and drain your blood dry!"
Reggie had fallen in love with lly at first sight, and never imagined her true face would be this terrifying.
For lly, he had even cramd Amwan Language.
lly didn’t know how much effort he’d put in just to speak Amwan so fluently.
But this woman...
is a devil!
"N‑no... I wouldn’t..."
lly withdrew the dagger and returned to her usual harmless‑as‑livestock expression. "Let’s go then, I’ll go with you."
"N‑no... no need!..."
"Your legs are shaking. I should just carry you."
"No..."
lly put the dagger away, then scooped him up in a Princess carry, even hefted him lightly twice. That easy, relaxed posture shattered the image Reggie had of her like a mirror—crack, crack—into thousands of pieces.
He wondered if President Johnson had ntioned that matter to lly. Now Reggie had absolutely zero romantic thoughts about lly anymore.
So damn scary!
