Sumr Monroe wasn’t trying to disrespect anyone; she just didn’t want to owe any favors.
Who knows when she might decide not to attend anymore? It would be a hassle if she couldn’t repay the favor then.
But as soon as Sumr sat down, she heard a low chuckle from the side: "Ha..."
She glanced sideways and saw Ronan Kingston looking at her with a half-smile, as if amused by sothing unknown.
The exam papers were quickly distributed.
Mio Osborne stood at the podium and said, "Take a look at your paper. It’s all high school-level questions. The subjects are Chinese, Math, and English, all combined into one paper. The last big question in each subject is an extension question. Do it if you can; leave it blank if you can’t—those points are extra. Pay attention to the exam ti, and don’t linger too long on the last big question."
"And," Mio said with a stern face, "It doesn’t matter if you don’t do well; just make sure to study hard in the future. But if I find anyone cheating... then please leave my class imdiately. The one thing I can’t stand is cheating!"
Below, Willow Grant listened, feeling a chill. She had cheated by looking at notes during her college entrance exam...
Luckily, Mio Osborne couldn’t possibly know that.
As soon as all the papers were handed out, everyone picked up their pens and started answering the questions.
Sumr Monroe unfolded her paper, wrote her na, and was stumped as soon as she saw the first question.
The first subject on the test was Chinese.
The first question was to find misspelled words. Having grown up abroad, Sumr had no trouble with daily communication, but these spelling mistakes... to her, they all looked correct.
After staring for a while, one of Ronan Kingston’s friends saw her frozen there and asked in a whisper, "You can’t do it either?"
Sumr glanced at the guy, who was clearly a struggling student, and was a bit embarrassed to admit she really couldn’t do it.
Forget it, she gave up!
Sumr just picked B.
When in doubt, pick the shortest one; if they’re all the sa, pick B.
Yet, to Sumr’s surprise, for all five Chinese multiple-choice questions, she blindly guessed on each one.
What drove her even more to despair was the next section, which was fill-in-the-blank with ancient poetry.
Having never attended high school in China, this was completely beyond her knowledge base.
Sumr had never felt so helpless in academics before.
She had no choice but to abandon it again, leaving it blank, and moved on to the next question.
But what ca next was even more frustrating: questions on Classical Chinese. For Sumr, who grew up abroad, reading Classical Chinese was like reading hieroglyphs. She barely managed to answer a few questions.
Just then, Mio Osborne walked down from the podium to monitor the students and glanced at Sumr’s paper as he passed by her seat.
Every multiple-choice question marked with B, the ancient poetry section completely blank, and only a few Classical Chinese questions answered—all wrong.
Mio shook his head, confirming to himself that Sumr was a hopeless student, only capable of talking back.
Keeping such a student in the class would only have a negative influence.
Mio then went to check on the other students who had used connections to get in. Ronan was sleeping on the desk without even writing his na, and his desk mate was on par with Sumr.
Only Rachel Ross was sowhat passable, though her error rate was also high.
Indeed, none of the students who got in through connections were raw talents to be carved—they were all rotten wood!
Rachel Ross was the only one who might hold so promise.
At this mont, Sumr finally made it through the cryptic Chinese subject and moved on to Math.
She glanced at the Math questions and imdiately started scribbling down answers swiftly.
Sumr finished the Math section in less than ten minutes.
