Back when she married Henry Stanton, for the sake of face and reputation, they always said Clarissa Stanton was adopted.
But they knew in their hearts that she was their child.
Stella Monroe always thought this was a good idea, as it allowed Clarissa Stanton to enjoy all the privileges of a Stanton family heiress while preserving the couple’s honor. Yet, at this mont, she suddenly hated herself for having concealed Clarissa Stanton’s true lineage.
So much so that at Clarissa Stanton’s funeral, she didn’t dare to say that Clarissa was her biological daughter.
That noble lady was still trying to console Stella Monroe, but Stella didn’t want to hear a single word more. She promptly found an excuse of feeling unwell and left the backyard.
Sumr Monroe had witnessed everything.
She followed Stella Monroe’s footsteps and called out to her as she was leaving the backyard.
"Aunt?"
Stella Monroe’s steps halted; she didn’t want to pretend anymore, since Sumr Monroe had made her confess everything with Felix Jennings’ drugs, and with Henry Stanton not nearby, there was no point in continuing the charade.
She asked coldly, looking at Sumr, "What are you up to now? I heard you just upset your class teacher. Don’t think your father is protecting you; he just wants money! In his eyes, although you are biological and Clarissa is adopted, to him, both are just tools for making money!"
Stella said this to provoke Sumr Monroe; she wasn’t happy, so Sumr shouldn’t be smug!
Unexpectedly, Sumr wasn’t provoked; instead, she curled her lips slightly and said with a shadowed gaze, "Adopted... Are you sure about that?"
Stella’s expression froze for a mont but quickly returned to normal.
She hadn’t revealed anything about Clarissa’s lineage that day.
Stella clenched her teeth slightly, saying, "What do you an?"
"Nothing..." Sumr deliberately drew out her words, saying, "I just think, you seem to be overly grieving about Clarissa’s passing. Clarissa doesn’t seem like soone you adopted; she seems more like your biological daughter."
"What nonsense!" Stella was a little flustered but tried to stay composed, saying, "I raised Clarissa, she’s not biological, but she’s like my own. Don’t say anything reckless!"
Sumr shrugged and said, "You can pretend I’m talking nonsense. But do you not know where Dad went when he went out and ca back?"
Stella frowned deeply.
She wanted to ask, but there were too many people in the backyard, making it hard to ask Henry Stanton there.
Moreover, she assud Henry Stanton went out for business.
But with Sumr’s words, she suddenly beca a bit curious.
Stella was silent for a couple of seconds, saying, "I don’t understand the point of all your insinuations. But let tell you that your father and I are truly in love; no matter how much you try to sow discord, you’ll never separate us!"
"Truly in love?" Sumr’s eyes were filled with sarcasm, "Aren’t you afraid of accidentally getting struck by lightning during a storm?"
Stella’s eyes slightly trembled, feeling guilty, she averted her gaze and said, "Sumr! Stop acting all mysterious! I’m not feeling well; I need to go back to my room and rest!"
She said this with bad emotions, striding away toward the villa.
Stella’s steps were urgent, and her heart was anxious.
She worried that Sumr knew about her affair with Felix Jennings, but upon a second thought, Sumr couldn’t possibly know.
If she did know, she’d have exposed everything about her affair with Felix Jennings long ago, not waited until now.
Thinking thus, Stella’s restless heart cald down.
At this mont, she happened to pass by Old Madam Stanton’s room.
