His heart pounded as it never had before. He was so anxious he didn’t even notice his phone had fallen to the ground. He had always believed her words were empty. Knowing she and Huang Xiaojue were just colleagues hadn’t worried him. He’d stubbornly thought the Huang Family’s parents wouldn’t agree to their marriage.
The Huang Family’s parents were like a natural firewall. How could anyone, knowing her past, agree to accept a daughter-in-law like her?
But today, their wedding date was set. It was like a bolt from the blue.
He wondered what thod Huang Xiaojue had used to persuade his notoriously difficult mother to agree.

He held her tightly, his face pressed against hers. He saw her long, black eyelashes, like tiny, damp brushes, sweeping down, light and beautiful as a cicada’s wings. It was a heart-stopping, breathtaking flutter of emotion, just like their first love.
After a while, the two separated. Her cheeks were burning hot, her eyes sparkling. "Xiaojue, are you going to pick up for work every morning from now on?"
He replied leisurely, "That’d be too much trouble. Fortunately, we’re getting married soon, so it won’t be a hassle when we can just leave together."
"But that’s still more than three months away."
He pressed his lips to hers again, his voice a little hoarse, "Xixi, why don’t you move into my apartnt first?"
Her face turned red, and she lowered her head.
"Let’s celebrate the New Year at my family’s place. After that, you can move into my apartnt. When the new house is renovated, we can move in right after the wedding—the timing will be perfect. Xixi, I really can’t stand living alone anymore... I can’t bear it..."
He looked a little anxious, afraid she would refuse.
