When Wan Donglin saw the stack of photos, he felt like his lungs were about to explode with rage.
Indeed, Huang Xiaojue was wearing a new scarf around his neck; in profile, he looked even more handso and stylish. And Yan Xixi had actually stayed up half the night, all for the sake of putting this scarf on him first thing in the morning!
There was another picture of the two of them getting out of a car in the company’s underground parking area. Huang Xiaojue gently embraced her for what was clearly a goodbye kiss. Goddammit, it was just a goodbye for work. Was there a need for such a reluctant parting?
He had known that Yan Xixi loved Huang Xiaojue, but he thought they were just an ordinary couple. Their love, he assud, would have its boundaries and was simply the nostalgia of a first romance. Little did he know that their reunion would be like dry firewood eting a raging fla, ready to burn brightly.
It felt as if a poisonous snake slithered across his heart, its bite piercing and painful. Clutching the photos, veins suddenly bulged on his large hand as he furiously tore them to shreds.
The assistant observed his shifting mood. He couldn’t understand why Master Donglin was so angry about a re scarf, so he didn’t dare to ask.
After a while, Wan Donglin stood up. "Clean this up. From now on, no visitors are allowed."
"What if Miss Zhou Ting cos?"
"I said no visitors!"
The assistant dared not make a sound and promptly left the room.
As soon as he stepped out, the phone rang. It was Liu Daqing. Feeling stressed, he steeled himself and answered, "Good day, Madam."
"Put Donglin on the phone."
"Master Donglin has been in a poor mood these days and has decided to travel alone to Sha City. He didn’t bring his phone and left no contact information. He asked to tell you that he will contact you after half a month. Madam, please rest assured."
In the warm and cozy teahouse, Mrs. Huang casually placed her bag on the table and removed her scarf.
Zhou Xiaoxuan complinted, "Aunt Huang, you’re getting younger day by day. Your scarf is quite pretty. It matches well with your coat, making you look particularly refined."
Mrs. Huang chuckled, "This was given to by Yan Xixi. She has fine taste and her gifts are always pleasing. Last ti, she even gifted a set of Ocean-blue Mystery skincare products. I usually wouldn’t splurge on sothing so costly. And you know, you’re right; good skincare products genuinely make a difference. After using them, my old friends all comnted that my skin has improved greatly and I look much younger."
Upon hearing Mrs. Huang’s tone and seeing her beaming face, Zhou Xiaoxuan couldn’t help but think: This old lady has long been won over by Yan Xixi. Did she forget how she used to be so fond of her own cousin? Now that her son is getting married, she doesn’t ntion her own cousin at all.
Zhou Xiaoxuan then said, playing along, "Yan Xixi is generous? The Ocean-blue Mystery skincare line isn’t cheap."
"Isn’t that so?"
"Didn’t she start working not long ago? Can her salary afford such expensive items?"
"In Xiaojue’s company, the salary and benefits have always been the highest in their industry."
"I bet Xiaojue has helped her a lot, hasn’t he?"
"Not exactly. Xiaojue told that Yan Xixi is very diligent and that her female superiors like her a lot. Apparently, she had a big project last month that led to a promotion. Xiaojue said he didn’t even know about this big deal. He only found out when the business departnt submitted a report applying for her bonus."
Zhou Xiaoxuan felt a surge of bitterness. Who knew how many good things Huang Xiaojue had said about Yan Xixi to his parents? He had actually managed to portray a scheming woman as an inspirational, hardworking one! Did he really need to protect Yan Xixi to this extent?
