She was so startled she almost jumped.
That warm breath blew unrestrainedly against her neck, his voice a little hoarse. "Xixi, I’ve missed you so much..."
Her mind buzzed, and she suddenly felt dazed. Only fear. The scene she feared the most had finally occurred.
But his large hands embraced her like iron bands. His head was buried in her neck, greedily inhaling the fresh scent emanating from her hairline. So pure, so clean, mingled with the chill and faint scent of winter snowflakes, it made his entire being grow hot.
Sleet swirled down, landing on their shoulders. He, however, was completely unaware of it. He only instinctively caressed her glossy black hair, his cheek pressed against the warmth of her cashre scarf. Nothing had changed.
He had waited for so long; a wave of relief finally washed over him.
He held her for a long, long ti without uttering a single word. Yet, even his breathing seed laced with a smile. This was wonderful, even better than he had imagined countless tis... In his entire life, he had never missed soone this much, nor had he ever held soone for so long. It felt as if simply holding her was enough to satisfy everything.
The mont he loosened his grip and turned her around, she bolted.
He reached out his long arm and caught her. In his arms, she felt like a caged bird. When he brazenly tried to claim her lips, she dodged with all her might, desperately evading him.
The car was right at the door. He effortlessly carried her into it and swiftly locked the doors.
The warmth inside the car chased away the biting cold, but Yan Xixi, leaning back in her seat, couldn’t help but shiver.
As Wan Donglin drove, he watched her. Her eyes were slightly closed, her face as pale as a sheet. He, however, was filled with joy, imrsed in the strange happiness of their reunion. She hadn’t changed much, but when she occasionally opened her eyes, they held a surprising sparkle. The anxious look she used to unintentionally reveal was gone. Now, when she looked at him, her expression was mostly anger.
The car headed out of town. She had already recovered from the initial shock. What was inevitable had finally happened. No matter how much she tried to avoid it, it was to no avail.
"Mr. Wan..."
"Xixi, I miss you... I really, really miss you..."
His face was alight with a smile as he reached out to hold her hand, but she quickly hid hers. Her voice was a bit dry as she said, "Mr. Wan, I don’t think there’s any need for us to et anymore."
He continued to drive attentively. "Xixi, it’s the annual holiday. Where would you like to go? Last year we went to Jiuzhaigou. This year, how about we go to Dali for a few days?"
She pressed her lips together, saying nothing, but her mind was racing.
As she watched the neon lights outside the window swiftly recede, her feeling of despair intensified. Wan Donglin... he just wouldn’t let her go after all.
The car stopped.
His voice was gentle. "Xixi, get out."
She looked up and saw the familiar gate. His words from back then echoed in her mind, "Yan Xixi, if you leave today, you’ll never set foot in here again for the rest of your life. Even if you beg , I won’t give you another chance."
She had never begged him—in fact, she had secretly rejoiced many tis about leaving this dreadful place.
He stood behind her, his large hand reaching out and affectionately taking hers. She knew she couldn’t resist at all; any futile struggle would only lead to her own humiliation, because he had once said he was from a special forces background.
