Xu Xiaoya took out a card. Yan Xixi’s eyes fell on it. "Xiaoya, didn’t I tell you to return this to Wan Donglin?"
"Actually, that’s why I ca to see you today. As soon as you left that day, the Third Young Master arrived. He didn’t take the card, only took a photocopy of your ID."
"What does he want with just a photocopy of my ID? Has the legal representative been changed?"
"Not yet. I don’t think the Third Young Master took the photocopy to change the legal representative. To him, this shop ans nothing."
"Then why did he take it?"
"I don’t know."
Yan Xixi flipped the card in her hand. It was a tiny card, yet it represented a sum that many people might not acquire even after a lifeti of struggle.
"Xixi, the Third Young Master is really nice, plus he cares about you. He just called off his engagent with Zhou Ting. Technically, he’s a bona fide Diamond King. Do you really not feel anything for him?"
She said lightly, "Clearly you don’t understand him."
"Indeed, I don’t understand him, but you should think about yourself. You’ve been through so much. This money is justifiably yours."
She laughed bitterly. It wasn’t as if she genuinely didn’t love money. If she had been truly noble, she wouldn’t have racked her brains to stash that large sum of cash in the safe. If she were single, she would have already bought a house and a car with this money, without any financial pressure. But one can’t have their cake and eat it too. If she wanted to continue taking Wan Donglin’s money, then she could forget about marrying Huang Xiaojue. Who doesn’t love wealth and status? Spending money feels good, but how would she explain it to Huang Xiaojue? And how would she avoid Wan Donglin’s entanglents? A man’s money... it’s too hot to handle.
Knowing she couldn’t persuade her, Xu Xiaoya took out another card. "Xixi, it’s not a solution for you to keep moving around like this. You should buy a house too. There’s so money on this card; I’ll hold off on buying a car for now. You can use this for a down paynt."
"This..."
"This money cos from my salary and dividends. It’s completely legitimate."
"Xiaoya, I didn’t an that."
"Are you still being so formal with ? Until you’ve bought a house, don’t bother renting anywhere else. Just stay at my place. That small two-bedroom apartnt is enough for the two of us."
Yan Xixi was also straightforward. "Alright, I’m too lazy to look for a place. I’ll move in with you for the ti being."
"It’s not just a temporary arrangent; it’s our ho, Xixi. You’re welco to stay for as long as you like."
Yan Xixi moved into Xu Xiaoya’s ho that very day. The small, beautifully decorated two-bedroom apartnt had both bedrooms arranged cozily and comfortably. Yan Xixi’s room was particularly inviting. The bedding was brand new. A cozy reclining chair sat in the corner, and there was a small window ledge. Bookshelves lined two walls. A spider plant hung from a chic green ironwork plant stand, filling the room with a delicate fragrance.
She loved it at first sight. "Xiaoya, this room is very beautiful."
"I knew you would like it, so I kept this room for you."
Xu Xiaoya smiled and placed a large bunch of keys into her hand. "I know, after you get married, you won’t live here. After I get married, I won’t live here either. But this place will always be our refuge."
Yan Xixi looked at her and offered no words of thanks. At this mont, she felt deeply grateful that they still had each other. They had never called each other sisters, nor friends, let alone claid any kind of ’bestie’ relationship—they weren’t any of those things to each other. Yet, their bond was deeper and stronger than all those labels combined.
That night, she had insomnia and couldn’t fall asleep until one in the morning.
