Wan Donglin said indifferently, "I’m busy right now."
"Third Young Master, I didn’t an to disturb you..." Wang Xiaohao spoke in a flustered manner. "I just want the phone number of that beauty you were with. Ever since I saw her that ti, I’ve been itching for it. She’s soone you’re done with, right? So just give her number..."
"Wang Xiaohao, you’ve got the wrong person. Stop harassing people. And let tell you, the woman I was with is a mute!"
"Third Young Master..." Wan Donglin hung up abruptly.
He gave a bitter smile. This circle really was small for Wang Xiaohao to have run into them like that.
He ca out of the bathroom and saw he had several new text ssages.
"Did you disappear?"
"What the hell are you doing?"
"Why aren’t you replying to ?"
He was curious. What could have made her so restless and uneasy this ti?
"Miss, who’s managed to annoy you this ti?"
"Sigh, you wouldn’t understand even if I told you. Just tell , how on earth does one win over their mother-in-law?"
"Isn’t that simple? Just take care of all three als a day, do all the household chores, and prepare her foot bath every night. If she tells you to go east, you absolutely must not go west; if she says sothing is good, you must never say it’s bad. On top of all that, hand over every penny you earn to her and don’t spend a single cent on yourself. That’s guaranteed to make her like you."
"..."
"Sigh, I think I really managed to tick her off today..."
She had a bellyful of grievances she couldn’t air elsewhere, so she poured them all out to him. When typing beca too tiring, she switched to sending voice ssages: "...This ti I’m really dood. She said I disrespected her..."
He retorted, "Does that tall, rich, and handso guy of yours also think you don’t respect his mother?"
Yan Xixi thought he probably did. This was the first ti Huang Xiaojue had ever shown such disappointnt in her.
After Wan Donglin had taken Wang Xiaohao’s call, he already understood what was going on. He suspected Huang Xiaojue’s real displeasure wasn’t about Yan Xixi not visiting his aunt for her birthday celebration, but rather because he had been provoked by Wang Xiaohao, that upstart. Any man, upon hearing sothing like that, would have his mood ruined. However, he couldn’t tell Yan Xixi this.
"Sigh, it looks like this marriage really isn’t going to happen. I increasingly have no idea how to please his mother."
"Why do you have to please her? You didn’t do anything wrong in this matter."
"But she’s an elder, after all."
He disagreed. "We respect a person not because they’re old, but because of their character. If soone expects respect simply due to their age, that’s just pulling rank because they’re older. Why has the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship been so difficult for millennia? It’s because n constantly demand that their wives unconditionally obey their mothers. That’s servility! Pure servility! A slave harbors resentnt in their heart. Once they gain power, they beco even worse, turning into the very kind of person they once detested. That’s what ’a decade of suffering as a daughter-in-law forges her into a mother-in-law’ ans."
Yan Xixi laughed. "You make it sound so easy. Don’t tell your family doesn’t have any mother-in-law and daughter-in-law issues?"
"Of course not."
"That’s because you’re not even married! You don’t have a wife, so how could there be a mother-in-law relationship? Just wait and see. Once you get married, you’ll be caught in the middle too, dealing with all that drama."
"Not at all! There’s an old saying in the West: ’For a marriage to work, mothers must step aside.’ I’m forming a family with my wife, not with my mother. So, why would my mother try to control ?"
Suddenly, Yan Xixi had an impulse to send this sentence to Huang Xiaojue. She really wanted to see his reaction. Unable to resist, she copied it and sent it to him.
