Before Yan Xixi could respond, the call had already been disconnected.
Xu Xiaoya, who had heard the entire conversation clearly from the side, quietly asked, "Xixi, are we still going to the hospital? If you want to go, I can go with you."
She was silent for a mont before shaking her head.
"If you don’t go, Huang Xiaojue might be upset."
She gave a bitter smile. What could she do? Even if she went, Huang’s mother would throw her out. It was so damaging to her self-esteem, constantly offering a warm face only to et a cold shoulder.
"Xixi, I don’t think your future mother-in-law is an easy one. If you really marry Huang Xiaojue, I don’t know how you’ll manage."
She silently put down her phone. Deep down, she understood: this marriage might really be impossible.
But she couldn’t figure out what to do. A vague sense of fear crept over her: everything might co to nothing again.
Just then, a text ssage arrived. It was from Huang Xiaojue: "Xixi, I know this is tough on you. I’ll be ho as soon as possible."
Xu Xiaoya saw the ssage too. "Xixi, Xiaojue really wants you to visit. Let’s go. Even though his mother is harsh, he’s truly good to you. Let’s just bear with it. Co on, I’ll go with you."
Yan Xixi clenched her teeth. "Alright, let’s go."
By the ti they arrived at the hospital, it was nearly eight o’clock. The friends and relatives who had co to visit had already left; only Huang’s mother and father remained in the room. Seeing the two of them, Huang’s father greeted them politely, "Xixi, what brings you two here?"
Yan Xixi handed over the health supplents she had bought. "Auntie, are you feeling any better?"

"You two go out first."
Xu Xiaoya cast a worried glance at Xixi before reluctantly leaving the room.
Only the two of them remained.
Yan Xixi forced a smile and picked up an apple. "Auntie, let peel an apple for you..."
"No need."
