"Auntie Huang, I can hardly accept such praise. I’m still just a student; who knows what the future holds? Your son is the one who truly shines. He’s an influential figure at our school and now an idol among the underclassn."
Mrs. Huang bead, "Are you and Xiaojue schoolmates?"
"Yes. I’d heard about Cousin Huang Xiaojue’s great na a long ti ago. Especially in these last couple of years, since he beca famous, the younger students hold him in high esteem, seeing him as a role model."
"Ah, Xiaojue is just too busy. He’s in Hong Kong on a business trip and hasn’t returned yet. He was supposed to be ho today, but his flight got canceled because of a severe storm there."
"Please, don’t you two worry," Li Zhen said. "I’ll do whatever I can. Besides, Yang Wei is my brother-in-law. My sister and I, both being only children, have always been very close, like brother and sister. I won’t let my brother-in-law be falsely accused."
Encouraged by his confident tone, Mrs. Huang exclaid, "That’s wonderful, Li Zhen! We’re really going to need your help with this major issue."
"I can’t promise to solve it, as I’m not yet familiar with the details. However, I can start by looking into it for you."
Li Shanni quickly handed him all the docunts from the police and lawyers. She had also briefed him over the phone beforehand about the general situation. Mrs. Huang and her sister then added their own details, vehently insisting on their innocence. They carefully omitted any ntion of Yan Xixi’s relationship with Huang Xiaojue. Instead, they claid they were assaulted while shopping by an unscrupulous rchant who bullied custors. They also alleged that this woman had a powerful lover who liked to throw his weight around, and so on.
The fact that Mrs. Huang was injured and Yang Wei was badly hurt reinforced this. After hearing their account, Li Zhen’s imdiate thought was: They’re definitely throwing their weight around.
The aunt added, "They can run such a large shop precisely because they have underworld connections. Now, they’re threatening to make sure your cousin’s husband goes to jail..."
Li Shanni was tearful as she spoke. "My husband is still bedridden, critically injured and slow to heal, yet our adversaries are relentless... There’s just no justice in this world..."
Li Zhen quickly tried to comfort his cousin. "Sis, don’t panic. We need to stay calm right now."
After thoroughly reviewing the docunts, Li Zhen suddenly pointed to Yan Xixi’s na, extrely surprised. "Yan Xixi? The opposing party is nad Yan Xixi?"
Mrs. Huang looked very surprised. "Why, do you know her?"
"I just rembered a girl from our school who had the sa na."
Mrs. Huang asked eagerly, "Are you acquainted with her?"
Li Zhen shook his head. "I only saw her a few tis during large lectures. But... it couldn’t be *that* coincidental, could it? Do you know anything about her situation?"
Mrs. Huang and her sister exchanged looks. What a small world. Yan Xixi had been Huang Xiaojue’s classmate; there was no doubt that she had graduated from that university.
Furthermore, Mrs. Huang knew sothing others might not: after getting involved with Wan Donglin, Yan Xixi had continued her university studies for over a year to finally obtain her degree.
However, they were reluctant to bring this up. They exchanged a look and tacitly agreed to remain silent. Mrs. Huang deftly changed the subject. "Xiaoli, in your opinion, if the other party absolutely refuses to reconcile, do we stand a chance of winning?"
"If possible, we should try to et with them face-to-face first. Let’s get a feel for their position before deciding anything else."
Mrs. Huang and her sister looked at each other. "Can we go right away?"
Li Zhen hadn’t expected them to be in such a hurry, but he readily agreed. "Sure. My vacation ti here is limited, so let’s go today. But, will we be able to find them?"
"Yes, we can. Their shop isn’t far from the hospital."
