Yan Xixi glanced at the list. Good heavens, so pre-ordered items had delivery dates three years in the future! Certain rare exotic leather goods were handmade. Waiting two or three years for them wasn’t unusual, and their prices were exorbitantly high. Yet, these very items were in high demand, with supply struggling to keep up.
Her eyes drifted towards items priced over 400,000; three of them were even over 1 million, with the most expensive one reaching 1.8 million.
Xu Xiaoya heaved a sigh. "Sotis, even we who sell these bags are puzzled. A bag costing one or two million—that’s the price of a house or a sports car—and people are still willing to wait that long."
"Maybe that’s the charm of luxury? Like Vacheron Constantin or Patek Philippe—famous watches that can cost tens of millions, yet people still wear them."
"That’s not surprising. There are plenty of wealthy people in this world. Spending 1.8 million might be no different to them than it is for us to spend 180 or 1,800."
During their casual conversation, Xu Xiaoya brought over two cups of coffee. "Xixi, I was planning to invite you for dinner tonight to celebrate your exam success."
Yan Xixi got straight to the point. "Has Yang Wei been to this store?"
Frowning, Xu Xiaoya replied, "I wanted to discuss that with you tonight. Yang Wei has been causing trouble at the other store. Thankfully, this store isn’t in his jurisdiction. Moreover, it’s one of the top luxury shopping spots in the city. The property managent here is very powerful. He only tried once and hasn’t dared to co back. So, there’s no problem here for now. I’m just worried he’ll keep causing trouble for us over there."
Yan Xixi asked, "How about moving that store here?"
Xu Xiaoya looked hesitant. "I’m afraid that’s not possible. We signed a three-year contract with the landlord. More importantly, this place only has top-tier luxury brands, and our brand probably wouldn’t qualify to be here..."
That was indeed a problem.
Being able to afford one or two entry-level luxury items didn’t an one had truly entered the upper class. However, for the wealthy won who routinely spent hundreds of thousands, or even millions, on designer bags, the presence of a brand that wasn’t truly top-tier was a significant issue. It would certainly detract from their shopping experience.
Xu Xiaoya said, "A couple of days ago, Zhou Xiaoxuan ca to see , and I subtly inquired about a few things. Yang Wei, that pest, really did beco the head of city managent, reportedly with help from Zhou Ting."
Now that Huang Xiaojue had stepped into a senior managent role at the finance company, it was natural that everyone close to him benefited.
"Not only did Yang Wei beco the head of city managent, but his wife, who was just a re accountant, has now been transferred to the tax office. And Huang Xiaojue’s mother? Don’t even get started. She’s so high and mighty these days, and all her family’s relatives are now fawning over her..."
Huang’s mother went around telling everyone how fortunate it was that her son had dumped Yan Xixi. According to her, as soon as he did, he imdiately soared to success, bringing his relatives up with him. Now, he was considered a cut above everyone else in their family.
"Well, it looks like Huang Xiaojue isn’t a good person after all. Promoting his cousin, a piece of trash like Yang Wei, shows he’s just practicing nepotism. I really misjudged him before; I thought he was much better than his mother."
...
"Doesn’t he know what his cousin is like? Is he truly unaware that Yang Wei is causing trouble for us? Ugh, I wish we hadn’t shown Huang Xiaojue any consideration back then. If Yang Wei had gone to jail, we’d see how that pest could have pranced around causing trouble. Instead, he’s been coming after us repeatedly. It’s just like the fable of The Farr and the Snake. It’s infuriating..."
Yan Xixi remained silent.
Had Huang Xiaojue taken too big a leap?
