Unexpectedly, it was Zhou Ting. Huang Xiaojue was sitting next to her. This was the first ti the four of them had t in public.
Yan Xixi held Wan Donglin’s hand, her heart pounding for reasons she couldn’t quite grasp. She dreaded such encounters and had no wish to et Huang Xiaojue in public. Yet, by an unfortunate twist of fate, they had run into each other.
Wan Donglin’s expression remained unchanged as he responded quite naturally. "Mr. Huang, long ti no see."
Huang Xiaojue replied indifferently, "Mr. Wan, you’re too kind."
Wan Donglin chuckled. "I heard about your promotion, Mr. Huang, but haven’t had the chance to congratulate you. Rather than choosing a different day, let’s celebrate today. Allow to take this opportunity to toast you both."
Zhou Ting responded graciously, "Donglin, you’re too polite."
Yan Xixi stood beside Wan Donglin, simply maintaining a smile.
Zhou Ting glanced casually at Yan Xixi, noting the grey dress with an open collar and tie detail she wore—a classic piece from a major brand. Its style was understated yet exceptionally elegant and captivating. Zhou Ting even noticed the ring on Yan Xixi’s ring finger. This really is unexpected.
She said aningfully, "Looks like you two are soon to celebrate good news? Congratulations, congratulations."
Wan Donglin, still beaming, replied, "Thank you."
Huang Xiaojue’s gaze inadvertently fell upon the blue diamond on Xixi’s finger, and he quickly looked away. When Zhou Ting glanced at him, his expression appeared unchanged, though he barely spoke.
Few people present understood the tangled history and resentnt among the four of them. Zhou Ting and Huang Xiaojue had been appearing in public together long before Wan Donglin started bringing Yan Xixi to such events. Thus, it was generally assud that Zhou Ting had been the one to dump Wan Donglin.
Wan Donglin, naturally, was happy to let this perception continue.
Zhou Ting, perhaps having already salvaged her pride, was too smart to lose her composure in such a setting. She quickly changed the subject.
That night, Huang Xiaojue mostly drank and spoke very little. Wan Donglin and Zhou Ting were the main attractions, conversing and laughing easily. Yan Xixi, like Huang Xiaojue, remained silent the entire ti, a re spectator. Observing the two of them, so clearly the center of attention, she couldn’t help but think: Actually, they are the ones who belong to the sa world.
Yet, she could feel an undercurrent of tension. It was because everyone was fawning over Zhou Ting, trying so hard to please her and stay on her good side. In particular, two well-known, middle-aged n from prominent financial circles were shalessly currying favor with her.
She felt a chill inwardly: Has Old Zhou really won completely?
Just then, she saw Zhou Ting stand up and raise her glass. "Donglin," Zhou Ting said, "I almost forgot sothing important..."
The room quieted down as everyone turned to look at her.
Wan Donglin also looked at her. "What important matter?"
She then turned her gaze to Yan Xixi. "I heard through the grapevine, Miss Yan, that you’ve been accepted into Harvard University?"
Before Yan Xixi could respond, Wan Donglin pulled her hand and laughed heartily. "Zhou Ting, your information network is indeed efficient."
All eyes instantly fell upon Yan Xixi’s face. While many had been stealing glances at her, they had simply assud she was Wan Donglin’s latest lover, notable only for her stunning beauty. They never imagined she would be a Harvard student.
Beautiful won were common enough, but a beautiful woman admitted to Harvard was one in a hundred thousand—especially one as strikingly beautiful as her. No wonder Wan Donglin had been parading her around everywhere lately, completely unconcerned by public opinion.
This revelation instantly elevated Yan Xixi’s standing, and the gazes upon her turned peculiar.
She felt a wave of unease.
