The road erupted into an uproar, filled with the blare of car horns.
Wan Donglin scooped her into his arms and sprinted forward. Just as a car at the very edge of the road was about to start, he forcefully blocked it. The driver, irritated, stuck his head out and was about to curse when Wan Donglin roared, "Quick, to the hospital! There’ll be a generous reward!"
The driver barely hesitated before Wan Donglin yanked open the car door and rushed in.
The driver saw the thick wad of cash Wan Donglin thrust at him and instantly slamd on the accelerator.
The car dashed towards the hospital, running one red light after another.
When Yan Xixi woke up, her vision was blurry.
As she opened her eyes wide, she saw soone holding her hand tightly, his voice anxious, "Xixi... Xixi, what happened to you?"
She stared in amazent at the man before her. His face was covered in blood. His hands were covered with scrapes, and his face bore wounds as well. Yet, he seed completely oblivious to his own injuries, his expression fraught with worry as he gazed at her. "Xixi..."
As she sat up, she spoke blankly, "Bigfoot, I’m fine..."
Wan Donglin let out a sigh of relief.
She had tumbled and grazed her scalp when she fell, and her forehead was bruised black and blue. She was mostly just terrified. Otherwise, she had no serious injuries.
Now fully conscious, the terrifying ordeal left her with a lingering fear.
"Bigfoot, are you okay?"
He smiled. "I’m fine."
She dazedly gripped his hand. Her mories slowly returned, replaying in her mind like scenes from a movie: how he had wrenched the steering wheel, how he had thrown open his door and rushed towards her... To think he had jumped from the passenger seat, opened her door, and pulled out in the nick of ti... A mont later, and I would have plunged into the river.
Her eyes grew wide with disbelief.
Seeing her dazed expression, Wan Donglin asked cautiously, "Xixi, are you scared silly?"
She didn’t answer.
"Xixi, are you feeling uncomfortable? Did you get hurt sowhere else?"
In a very soft voice, she replied, "I didn’t even see how you opened the car door..."
He breathed a sigh of relief.
Her eyes sparkled. "Bigfoot, you’re amazing."
He chuckled. "Silly girl, did you forget what I used to do? I served in the army for several years and received special training, so naturally, my reactions are a bit faster than yours."
"But... how could you be so alert?"
The smile vanished from Wan Donglin’s face.
Why was he so alert? The truth was, he had been on alert for a long ti. He knew that when the storm clouds gather, a mont’s delay can ruin everything. It was just like Zhou Ting’s "joke" that day—that sudden rush. Although it ended up being a false alarm, the malice behind it was clear.
In fact, the anxiety in his heart was becoming impossible to conceal. Yet, he still diligently hid it away. There were so things she could never understand.
"Xixi, you should focus on recovering. Don’t worry about anything else."
She hesitated. "Do I need to be hospitalized?"
"As long as you’re fine, we’ll be discharged imdiately."
"But you’re injured."
"These minor scratches are nothing."
Just then, the doctor conducting the re-examination walked in.
He held all the test reports in his hand and said very politely, "The patient was rely frightened. There’s no concussion, and the other minor abrasions aren’t a major issue. She can be discharged at any ti."
Wan Donglin thanked him.
Zhang Xiang had personally driven their car over. Yan Xixi noticed an inconspicuous, ordinary car following behind. Inside were Wan Donglin’s bodyguards—the two n who had previously helped her by beating up Yang Wei. They had rushed over earlier for security.
