The lights were on.
Xu Xiaoya was startled to see Yan Xixi’s ashen face.
She had only seen such a terrifying expression once before, on the day her mother was gravely ill.
"Xixi..." Xu Xiaoya began, her voice trailing off.
Yan Xixi suddenly stood up. "Xiaoya," she asked urgently, "do you have any news on Zhang Xiang’s whereabouts?"
Xu Xiaoya was at a loss for words. Even she felt the situation was becoming dire.
Yan Xixi grew impatient. "Xiaoya, can you contact Zhang Xiang?"
Xu Xiaoya could only shake her head. "No, I can’t get in touch with him at all. All three of them have their phones off, as if they’ve completely vanished."
Yan Xixi collapsed into a chair.
Zhang Xiang was Wan Donglin’s assistant and confidential secretary, basically the person he trusted most. The other two were Wan Donglin’s bodyguards who had been with him for many years. Now, their sudden disappearance—what did it an?
Yan Xixi’s first instinct wasn’t that she had been abandoned—she didn’t even entertain such a thought.
She suddenly jumped up, gripping Xu Xiaoya tightly. "Sothing must have happened to them! I have to find them."
Xu Xiaoya was also panicked. "What could have happened to them? Where can you go to find them?"
"Sothing definitely happened," Yan Xixi said. "That car accident felt suspicious from the start. How could a big truck just happen to co along like that? And that drunk who fell into the river and died—it must have been aid at Wan Donglin..."
She hadn’t paid attention at the ti, but thinking back, Wan Donglin had been busy all night. Could it be unrelated to this?
Xu Xiaoya turned pale with fright. "Could it be Yang Wei’s doing?"
All she knew was that Wan Donglin’s enemy was Yang Wei. What else could she possibly understand?
But Yan Xixi shook her head. How could it be Yang Wei? Yang Wei was just a common peddler. Even if he beca a city patrol captain, he was just an insignificant Sesa Official. Would he have the guts to go after Wan Donglin?
She suddenly recalled the news about the Wan Family’s divestnt that had flooded the dia a while ago. Recently, this news seed to have faded. Had people grown tired of it, or was there so other reason? Either way, things had quieted down. Could Wan Donglin have been busy all night dealing with this? Or was it sothing else? What if it was the Zhou Family? What if Old Zhou held a grudge?
Only then did a deep chill run through her.
"Heavens, Xixi, do you know sothing?" Xu Xiaoya asked, her own face pale.
Yan Xixi, equally pale, could only shake her head.
"Wan Donglin is so capable, what could possibly happen to him? It’s impossible, right? Besides, he has Zhang Xiang and the others with him. Maybe they just went out for a eting?" Xu Xiaoya offered.
"Would they turn off their phones all day for a eting?" Yan Xixi retorted. "Four people, and two of them have their phones off all day. Does that make any sense?"
"Did Wan Donglin ever disappear like this before, without a word?" Xu Xiaoya asked.
Yan Xixi was taken aback.
It used to happen often. In the first two years, he would frequently go missing, sotis disappearing for two to three months without any calls or ssages. He’d appear when he wanted and vanish when he pleased. But back then, she didn’t care. She even wished he wouldn’t contact her at all. Even during the "Country Bumpkin" phase, he would often go MIA. It was common for him to send no ssages for ten days or half a month, or he’d suddenly block people. However, ever since her fight with Mother Huang, he had stopped disappearing like that. During their ti together, he had never vanished. Even if he went out for etings or to handle business, he would call or ssage her every single day, without exception.
She suddenly had an idea. "I’m going to check for reports of any car accidents..."
