It was almost seven in the evening, and the glow of the setting sun still lingered in the sky. As soon as she stepped out of the car, a wave of blistering heat hit her face. She had only taken a few steps when beads of sweat started to form on her forehead again.
Yan Xixi quickened her pace towards ho.
The door was open, to her surprise. Sitting in the living room was Wan Donglin, grinning cheerfully. "Xixi, dinner’s ready!"
On the table were four dishes and a soup, along with chilled white fungus soup, waterlon, and turtle jelly—perfect for beating the sumr heat. These were all her usual favorites.
The temperature of the food was just right, as if it had been tid precisely for her arrival.
Looking around, the terrace was neat and refreshed, with a few additional hanging baskets of fresh plants. The dirty clothes left in the bathroom, unwashed from the previous night, were all now hanging neatly on the clothesline, clean and organized. Swaying in the breeze, they were completely dry and ready to be put away.
All this was the housekeeper’s doing. The easy life she once had, where food and clothes were simply presented to her, seed to have returned.
Except, she was standing at the entrance, holding a few bags—all full of ingredients she had bought from the market, a rich and varied selection.
Wan Donglin took the bags from her. "Why are you running around on such a hot day? Be careful not to get heatstroke."
She replied lightly, "I just wanted to buy so ingredients to cook a few dishes."
"Don’t bother, it’s too hot to cook. Wash your face and co eat," he insisted.
The air conditioning was strong, the room was clean, and the food delicious. Yan Xixi held her bowl and silently began to eat.
"Xixi, eat more."
She seed a bit lost in thought. "Let’s not call the housekeeping assistant tomorrow. I can do it myself."
Raising an eyebrow, he asked, "Why should you do it?"
She explained patiently, "I can handle all these things. In the past, I pretended I couldn’t because I was lazy. It’s just human nature to beco idle once you get used to a comfortable lifestyle. Honestly, when you’re not at ho, I’m not afraid of anything. I could even kill a mouse and roast it."
He exclaid, "Impressive!" then burst into laughter. She laughed too, and the atmosphere at the table imdiately brightened.
He said enthusiastically, "Xixi, I’ve prepared a Harvard guide for you. It’ll make things much easier when you go."
She casually responded, "I’ve already downloaded and organized various guides from Google, covering what to eat, wear, how to get around, and where to live... Everything has been taken care of."
Indeed, a pile of printed materials lay on the desk. She had ticulously organized everything: all the necessary information, docunts, procedures, how to rent an apartnt, and how to arrange accommodations. She had even noted where to stay for a while beforehand and how to find the cheapest options, marking everything with a red pencil. He was montarily stunned.
"I’ve also taken care of the house," she continued. "I’ve signed an agreent with the estate agency. The house will be rented out in two months, with the rent directly transferred to my card, so I’ll have a stable inco."
Following his gaze, she saw her packed suitcase. So of the heavier items were already inside; only a few small items remained to be added at the last minute.
"Xixi, you’ve done everything. I suddenly feel like I lack any heroic spirit."
She remained unconcerned. "It’s simple: ask Baidu for dostic affairs, Google for foreign affairs, and Tianya for personal affairs."
He laughed bitterly. In this era, Tianya could even solve personal affairs. It seed that, aside from the bedroom, there was really no place left where a man’s strength was truly needed.
