It seed like soone was calling him. He quickly offered a few instructions and then hung up the phone.

Her eyes were slightly closed, a pang of sadness in her heart, but another voice imdiately reminded her: What’s all this fuss about? If I can’t handle such small things, then I’m just being too lodramatic. In my past life as a con artist, I’d just muddled through; was it really harder than today? Never mind, never mind. People are like this; greed is endless. When no one treats you well, you’re tougher than the most capable woman; when soone does treat you well, you beco more lodramatic than Lin Daiyu. She mocked herself and quickly fell asleep.

When she woke up, there were fewer people in the hall, and the light had dimd. It was almost seven o’clock. Her phone was ringing incessantly. She picked it up. "Xixi...where are you?"

She glanced at the IV drip and, estimating it would take another half an hour, answered in a low voice, "I’m in the hospital..."

The call abruptly ended. Startled, she had no choice but to put her phone away.

Finally, her IV drip was almost finished. She was about to call the nurse when Wan Donglin hurried in.

"Xixi, what’s wrong?"

She gave a slight smile. "I’m fine. I feel much better."

The nurse ca to remove the needle. He then took her unhard hand, and they left.

Throughout the journey, he didn’t say much. Neither did she. The atmosphere was eerily quiet, matching his expression. She had no intention of offering an explanation, nor did she want to. It was just a minor cold; why make such a big deal out of it?

When she went to get in the car, he moved to open the door for her, but she had already reached out, opened it herself, and slipped in with extre casualness. He glanced at her. For the rest of the ride ho, he didn’t utter another word.

After the IV, she didn’t feel hungry, and her mouth tasted bitter. She ate only a small bowl of hot porridge and went to sleep.

Wan Donglin was looking at a docunt. After a while, she opened her eyes and looked toward him. He was sitting alone in the chair, his eyes remaining closed, and she had no idea what he was thinking.

He turned the lights off early that night. Yet, sleep eluded him; he stood alone on the balcony, gazing at the moonlit scene outside the window. The doctor’s words replayed in his mind: "Are you the patient’s family? Please make ti to accompany her tomorrow. Today was very dangerous. The patient’s latent genetic allergy history wasn’t discovered beforehand—she herself didn’t know—and we almost administered the wrong dication. This kind of allergenic error, in severe cases, can lead to the patient’s death within two to three minutes. We will be more cautious in the future, but the patient’s family should also take this seriously..." He didn’t dare to imagine what the consequences would have been if not for the crowd shouting and the doctor’s quick arrival. And yet, she hadn’t told him a single word about it. Moreover, she had lied and tried to act strong—every ti he called, she insisted she was "lying in bed" and "much better." A surge of anger pressed down on his chest, but he could only take deep breaths.

They went to bed early and woke up early too.

At midnight, Yan Xixi got up again to drink water. She had a cold, and her throat was constantly dry.

As she got up, Wan Donglin sat up. "Xixi, what do you need?"

She was startled, realizing he had been awake the whole ti. She didn’t answer and got out of bed directly.

He turned on the light. She put the cup down.

Under the light, her face was terribly pale. Her lips were chapped, and she looked utterly withered. It wasn’t just because of this high fever; she had already lost a significant amount of weight before. This illness was rely salt in the wound.

His eyebrows were tightly furrowed. "Xixi!"

She replied casually, "I’m just thirsty and wanted to drink so water."

"If you need water, couldn’t you have just called ? You’re this sick, what are you doing running around? I’m right here beside you; is it so hard to call out once?"
