Song Qiao was not quite used to Lu Jingchen’s sudden gentleness and approachability. Though tears were still swirling in her eyes, they no longer continued to fall. Blinking, she buried her face in the pillow and muttered, "Lu Jingchen, sotis I really don’t understand you?"

"You want to understand ?" Lu Jingchen’s eyes revealed an enigmatic expression, his deep gaze fixed on her as he spoke in a low and pleasant voice.

Looking at her pale face buried in the pillow, almost indistinguishable from the white pillow itself, Lu Jingchen’s hundred-year-old fingers stiffened slightly. He lifted his hand and began to play with her hair, then slowly leaned closer almost imperceptibly. The man bent slightly, bringing his handso face close to hers, his gentle breath spreading across her face.

Yan Xunhuan felt a bit uncomfortable and shifted away, but the next second she stopped, biting her lips as she looked at him and spoke softly, "It’s not that I want to understand you; sotis I just don’t really get what you’re trying to convey, and I don’t want to ask you. Sotis I really feel like..." She paused, her eyes calmly gazing forward as if lost in thought.

Lu Jingchen looked at Song Qiao’s delicate face, gently tugged at her hair, and asked softly, "What’s wrong?"

"Lu Jingchen." She turned to look at him, softly calling his na, feeling her breath halt. Then, under his gaze, she finally asked the question, "Lu Jingchen... will we ever get divorced?"

Lu Jingchen looked at her delicate face, his eyes narrowing slightly, his lips pressed into a straight line, but no other unusual emotions showed. He whispered two words, "No."

Song Qiao smiled, her face lighting up with a beautiful and cunning smile, which made Lu Jingchen unable to resist bending down to kiss her, though it was just a light kiss.

After all, this was a hospital, and to him, Song Qiao was an overwhelmingly tempting little demoness. He worried that if he couldn’t restrain himself, he might end up stripping her right here.

In that mont, both individuals understood that many years later, when Lu Jingchen reminisced about this scene, he would feel a sudden pang of pain in his heart.

Similarly, many years later, the woman who had parted ways with him to each find their own peace in a foreign land, saw unfamiliar faces and rembered this mont, feeling dazed.

Although there wasn’t a passionate kiss that seed to tear her apart, he still kissed her repeatedly, unable to let go.

Since it was lunchti, and because she had severe back pain in the morning and hadn’t eaten much, she was now famished. She pushed the man in front of her slightly, her face looking pitiful, and said, "You don’t need to kiss anymore. Didn’t you bring food? I want to eat."

Song Qiao rarely acted coquettishly... actually, in his mory, she had never acted coquettishly with him before, having only spoken in a slightly whiny tone once.

Clearly, Song Qiao’s coquettish behavior this ti was very pleasing to him. He looked even gentler as he again kissed her cheek, stood up, and spoke in his low, tender voice with a magnetic touch, "If you don’t want to stay in the hospital anymore, let’s handle the discharge after lunch, and I’ll take you ho, okay?"

While speaking, his long fingers twisted the lid off the thermos, and the room filled with a sweet aroma imdiately.

Upon slling it, Song Qiao knew it was pork rib and corn soup, her favorite. The delicious scent filled her nostrils, making her almost drool, yet she frowned at Lu Jingchen, "Why go ho? It’s quite good here at the hospital."

At ho in the villa, he wasn’t even there; at least in the hospital, they had doctors and nurses, which was more convenient considering her severe back pain.

Listening to her soft voice, Lu Jingchen lowered his eyes and calmly prepared her soup and al. His heart, which had been slightly turbulent, had flattened out completely after they had resolved all their misunderstandings.

Song Qiao thought Lu Jingchen wouldn’t answer her question, or would agree with her suggestion.

She didn’t speak, just lay there watching as he skillfully poured the soup into the delicate porcelain bowl.

It wasn’t until he handed her the bowl containing the soup that his slightly husky, low voice ca from above her head, steady and devoid of any distinct emotion, yet it carried a barely noticeable tenderness, "I can’t sleep at night without you at ho. I’ve gotten used to holding you."

Song Qiao wasn’t very thin; she still had a little bit of flesh on her, but she wasn’t fat. Holding her at night, he always felt like he was embracing sothing soft and comfortable, and what mattered most was... he liked the natural scent of her body.

...

After finishing lunch at the hospital, Lu Jingchen directly processed the discharge papers for her. Song Qiao felt a subtle change in their relationship from the mont he arrived at the hospital.

Lu Jingchen didn’t have his driver bring him; instead, he drove himself with Song Qiao sitting in the passenger seat. Despite the serenity on her delicate features, she couldn’t help but frown and sniff, knitting her brows.

As Lu Jingchen sat in the driver’s seat and closed the door, he turned his head and saw her frowning. He asked lightly, "What’s wrong?"

"I think I sll alcohol." Song Qiao’s voice was tender, with a touch of clarity, as her beautiful eyes turned to look at him, "Did you drink?"

The man paused, one hand on the steering wheel, the other holding the keys, his gaze resting lightly on her face. He chuckled lowly, honestly admitting, "Yes, I went out for drinks last night."

Song Qiao uttered an "oh", blinked and was about to speak when the man’s phone suddenly rang, stopping the words she had at her throat.

He took out his phone, glanced at the caller ID, which showed Zuo Yuqing’s call, slid to answer, and spoke in his usual warm and deep voice, "Yuqing."

Sitting in the passenger seat, Song Qiao, upon hearing this na, stiffened involuntarily, her hand on her lap curling and then forming into a fist as she turned to look out the window the next second.

In a place out of the man’s sight, a trace of scorn flashed through Song Qiao’s eyes, genuinely unsure whether the ridicule was aid at soone else or at herself.

"Jingchen..." Zuo Yuqing’s voice ca from the phone, slightly hoarse but still carrying a light smile, soothing and pleasant, "I just had Sister Xu buy a lot of groceries, to thank you for taking to the hospital yesterday, I’d like to invite you over for dinner tonight, is that okay?"

Lu Jingchen glanced at the girl sitting in the passenger seat, his expression unchanged, and replied lightly, "No, I won’t have ti tonight, Qiaoqiao is getting discharged from the hospital today."

Upon hearing this, Zuo Yuqing fell silent on the other side of the phone, her breathing seeming a bit strained.

After a long while, she finally spoke softly, revealing a rare sense of helplessness and hurt, "Sorry, I montarily forgot you are married, then... I’ll invite you out so other ti to thank you."

Zuo Yuqing, through all the years Lu Jingchen had known her, had always shown a strong facade, rarely displaying that fragile side of hers, even during the ti she and Lu Jingchen were together, despite the many grievances she suffered.

Lu Jingchen turned and looked at Song Qiao, whose expression had slowly turned gloomy, his handso face bearing an unclear expression, his tall and lean fra leaning back in the driver’s seat, his voice deep as ever, nearly unchanged, "Alright, we’ll talk later."

His relationship with Zuo Yuqing had always been easily misunderstood, given their deep past love for each other.

Previously, both Lu An’an and Jian Xia had asked him whether he loved Song Qiao or Zuo Yuqing more, indeed even he himself couldn’t answer.

Perhaps he never truly reached the stage of loving Song Qiao, at most it was liking or a fondness, just feeling that Song Qiao was most suited to beco the Young Mistress Lu Family.

After Zuo Yuqing hung up, she sat blankly on the sofa, her mind conjuring an image of that familiar yet sowhat distant and indifferent young man, realizing unconsciously that he was no longer the Lu Jingchen from her mories.

Glancing slightly sideways towards the scenery outside, suddenly, the image of him naturally kissing Song Qiao that day in the CK Group’s parking lot erged before her eyes, a surge of uncomfortable feelings pouring out, making her feel incredibly sour inside.

...

After Lu Jingchen took Song Qiao back to the villa, he went straight to the office. Since picking up Zuo Yuqing’s call, the two of them had hardly spoken at all on the way, the man showing no inclination to explain either.

Inside, Song Qiao still felt quite uneasy, a hundred scenarios involving Lu Jingchen and Zuo Yuqing flashing through her mind, disturbing her peace.

However, she wouldn’t personally ask that man.

Her waist injury had mostly healed, at least it wasn’t as painful as before. Holding her waist, Song Qiao walked out of the bedroom, her posture resembling that of a pregnant woman, of course, if you overlook the pained expression on her delicate face.

Mrs. Chen happened to co up to find her, seeing her co out imdiately approached, supporting her while speaking, "Madam, Miss Ning from the Ning Family is downstairs looking for you."
