When Song Qiao received Ning Wan’s call, she was almost dozing off watching a boring Korean drama.
The phone suddenly rang on the table, jolting her awake. Seeing it was Ning Wan’s number, she quickly swiped to answer and put it to her ear, "Wanwan, I just called you, why didn’t anyone pick up?"
"Qiaoqiao." After half a minute of silence on the other end of the phone, Ning Wan’s voice finally ca through, "Can you co and pick up?"
...
Half an hour later, when Song Qiao saw Ning Wan standing alone on the side of a rural road, she leaped out of the car as soon as the driver stopped, and quickly walked up to Ning Wan asking with concern, "What happened? Why are you here by yourself? There’s neither village in front nor a store in back. Don’t tell you walked here on your own."
This was a rural road. It took half an hour from the Mu Mansion here, and an hour from the city center.
In such a place where there’s neither village in front nor a store in back, unless Ning Wan gave a proper reason, she refused to believe it.
Ning Wan tugged at the corners of her mouth, revealing a smile, and reached out her hand to Song Qiao, "Hurry up and help . My gosh, after walking for over ten minutes and standing for half an hour, my feet are about to break."
Song Qiao hurried over to support her, feeling the full weight of Ning Wan’s body on her, forcing her to step back, but still managing to stand firm.
However, when she realized that Ning Wan’s weight was so light it felt insubstantial to her, her face darkened as she directly asked, "Haven’t you been eating properly since you were discharged from the hospital?"
Ning Wan was startled, then explained, "No, I’ve been eating and sleeping well since my discharge. What’s up? Why do you ask like that?"
Song Qiao remained silent, knowing full well that Ning Wan was brushing her off. But since Ning Wan didn’t want to talk about it, probably not wanting her to worry, she didn’t press further and instead asked, "You still haven’t told how you ended up here?"
Just thinking about that question caused Ning Wan’s complexion to turn sour, even anger was evident on her face as she said bluntly, "It’s all because of that bitch Ning Yan’er..."
Upon hearing Ning Wan’s explanation, Song Qiao roughly understood the situation. It was Ning Yan’er who disliked her, yet couldn’t do anything to harm her due to Xi Mohan’s strict order that any harm to Ning Wan would fall back upon the Ning Family.
Though unable to directly harm Ning Wan, Ning Yan’er ca up with an extrely malicious sche—she bribed a taxi driver to take Ning Wan to another city, preferably never to return.
Initially, Ning Wan was so exhausted from the night before that she fell into a deep sleep as soon as she got into the taxi. It wasn’t until she woke up that she realized the route was wrong. Luckily, the driver was timid. After being threatened by Ning Wan, he took her wallet and left her here...
Fortunately, she had always kept her phone in her pants pocket. Initially, the phone had run out of power and shut down automatically, but later she managed to force it to turn on a few tis, which is how she finally got the chance to call Song Qiao.
After listening to Ning Wan’s story, Song Qiao’s lips twitched involuntarily, inwardly lanting how childish Ning Yan’er really was.
"Alright, let’s not talk about this anymore. Get in the car." Although the sun wasn’t very strong, standing for a long ti still made her feel a bit dizzy.
Ning Wan humd in response and let Song Qiao along with the driver help her into the car. Having worn high heels and walked so far, then standing for so long, her intention was to hail a car midway. But for so unknown reason, no cars had passed by all day long.
Back at the Mu Mansion, Ning Wan sat at the dining table enjoying a lunch personally cooked by Zhang Ma, and couldn’t help but sigh at how blissful life was.
Ning Wan’s comnt deepened the smile on Zhang Ma’s face. Seeing Ning Wan wolfing down her food, and knowing what had happened to her, she started to pity the girl and said, "Miss Ning, eat slowly; no one is competing with you for food."
Watching Ning Wan eat so joyfully made Song Qiao feel a pang of discomfort.
It was after Ning Wan finished her lunch and went upstairs for an afternoon nap that Song Qiao received a call from Xi Mohan.
She sat down on a swing by the grass, her gaze landing on Mu Shinian and Lu Yulin who were rrily playing with a Husky nearby. Only then did she swipe to answer the call and cooly asked, "Mr. Xi, what’s the matter?"
Xi Mohan seed completely unaffected by Song Qiao’s sardonic tone, getting straight to the point of his call, "Is Ning Wan with you?"
