Song Qiao’s mind was blank, almost unable to take in anyone’s words. It’s likely she wouldn’t have been able to enter the hospital surrounded by so many reporters if the driver hadn’t anticipated this and had the bodyguard accompany her.
Lu Jingchen’s injuries were severe, and his surgery was still not over. Li Man, protected by Lu Jingchen, only experienced a slight scare and remained unconscious but otherwise was unhard, with her injuries limited to cuts on the instep from glass.
Outside the operating room, Song Qiao sat in a chair in the corridor, not looking at the lit surgery room but rather down at the floor in front of her. Servants, the driver, and a few bodyguards stood by her side, no one knowing what she was thinking at that mont.
Lu Tianming and Xu Qian arrived at the hospital half an hour after Song Qiao, accompanied by Murong Rui, while Lu Jingchen’s surgery was still ongoing.
Lu Tianming glanced at Song Qiao, who was silent from the beginning to the end, not lifting her head or speaking at their arrival. A hint of dissatisfaction flashed across his face, but he said nothing and went straight to the door of the operating room, his anxiousness evident though he couldn’t see anything.
Xu Qian’s gaze fell on Song Qiao, her heart skipping a beat. She had seen the morning news and naturally knew about the car accident her son was involved in, feeling a surge of anxiety and walking straight over to sit next to Song Qiao, softly calling out with a pale face, "Xiao Qiao?"
Song Qiao heard Xu Qian’s voice, paused for a mont, then turned her head towards Xu Qian as if realizing belatedly, her lips moving for quite a while before her voice was heard, "Mom, you’re here."
Murong Rui, standing not far away, had a fleeting look of coldness and jealousy in her eyes when she heard Song Qiao calling Xu Qian ’Mom’, but she said nothing, her pink lips shut tight as she focused on the closed door of the operating room.
Xu Qian nodded, taking Song Qiao’s hand. She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but it felt as if Song Qiao slightly pulled away.
Sighing inwardly, she said to Song Qiao, "I don’t know why Jingchen would be with another woman, but Xiao Qiao, you have to trust him, okay?"
Song Qiao’s body stiffened, unsure how to respond for a mont.
Seeing that Song Qiao didn’t answer, Xu Qian knew she must be feeling terrible inside. She didn’t press further but continued, "Actually, you might not know that the Lu Family’s bloodline is quite special. It’s not easy for us to conceive like others. For generations, there has been at most one or two children, or even just one. Since Jingchen has chosen you, you are the daughter-in-law of the Lu Family, and that’s not up for choice."
She paused, then added, "Jingchen’s father might be tough to deal with, but don’t worry, I’ll work on him more."
Song Qiao looked up at Xu Qian, not fully comprehending her words.
Xu Qian knew she probably didn’t understand and was about to explain further.
Just then, the operating room door opened, and the doctor ca out. Not just Murong Rui, but also Lu Tianming and Xu Qian went over. Especially Xu Qian, who asked anxiously, "Doctor, how is my son?"
The doctor took off the mask and looked at Lu Tianming and Xu Qian, recognizing them but unable to recall imdiately who they were. After thinking a mont, he said, "The surgery was very successful, though there are many cuts from the glass, a slight concussion, and so foot injuries. Nevertheless, all operations were successful, and he will be transferred to a regular room. He’ll wake up once the anesthesia wears off."
Everyone present exhaled a sigh of relief upon hearing this. Lu Tianming quickly shook the doctor’s hand, saying, "Thank you doctor, we appreciate your hard work."
"No problem, it’s our duty. I’ve instructed the nurses to transfer the patient to the regular room, and you can go directly there now."
