An hour later, when Mu Shinian returned to the hospital room with wontons bought for Elder Mu, Song Qiao was sitting by the bed, peeling an apple for the old man. The grandfather and granddaughter were chatting, both with smiles on their faces, clearly in good spirits.
"Grandpa, I’ve brought back so wontons for you," Mu Shinian walked straight to the bedside as soon as she entered the room and said to Elder Mu with a sweet smile, "They’re still warm. Would you like to have so now?"
Elder Mu’s smile grew even broader as he nodded vigorously, "Yes, yes, Shinian, you haven’t had lunch yet, have you? Why don’t you eat with grandpa..." His gaze fell on the only serving of wontons in Mu Shinian’s hand, and he frowned, asking, "Why did you buy only one serving? Aren’t you and your sister eating?"
Mu Shinian brought a ceramic bowl, smiling as she said, "My brother-in-law just said he’ll take my sister and out to eat later. This is specifically bought for you."
"What brother-in-law?" Elder Mu imdiately caught the key point in Mu Shinian’s words, furrowing his brows, confusion showing on his weathered face as he looked from Mu Shinian to Song Qiao, who had suddenly stopped her movents on the other side.
Mu Shinian turned to look at Song Qiao, sowhat surprised, she said, "Sister, haven’t you told Grandpa yet?"
Mu Shinian, seeing her sister’s panic and the confusion on their grandpa’s face, belatedly realized sothing.
It seems... he had made a mistake.
Trying to suppress the turmoil inside her, Song Qiao removed the last bit of peel from the apple before raising her eyes to look at Elder Mu who was looking at her expecting an explanation. Taking a deep breath, she resolved to explain, "Grandfather, I got married..."
"You say you got married?" Elder Mu suddenly widened his eyes, which were sowhat cloudy with age, and looked at Song Qiao in disbelief, his voice trembling slightly, obviously sowhat angry, "You’re married? Qiaoqiao, marriage is a lifelong commitnt, why didn’t you discuss your marriage with first? Moreover, you are still young, how can you take such a step in haste? Having lived a long life, he cald down when he saw the almost tearful expressions of the two youngsters and reined in his anger. But he still asked sternly, "Well then, why the sudden marriage, and who is the other party?"
In the mories of Song Qiao and Mu Shinian, Elder Mu has always been a very kind and amiable old man, treating them with warmth and kindness, even when they occasionally made mistakes.
Thus, when they suddenly encountered the sowhat stern Elder Mu, the siblings imdiately realized that this ti, he was truly angry.

The handso man exuding an air of nobility walked straight into the ward and stopped beside Song Qiao, a gentle smile on his face. He spoke politely and reverently, "Grandpa, hello, I am Qiaoqiao’s nominal husband, Lu Jingchen. I apologize for not discussing our marriage with you in advance."
His words were perfect, his deanor noble and elegant, yet without lacking respect for Elder Mu. Even without Elder Mu’s approval, he still addressed him as Grandpa.
Song Qiao bit her lip and stood there, pulling her gaze back from Lu Jingchen, her heart pounding.
Lu Jingchen, however, noticed her small reaction and reached out to firmly hold her hand.
Elder Mu, shrewd from decades of experience, couldn’t possibly have missed the action as Lu Jingchen held his granddaughter’s hand so suddenly. It was unclear if it was because he saw sothing special in Lu Jingchen at first glance, or because he deed Lu Jingchen seed good to Song Qiao, or maybe because Lu Jingchen was the first to lower his tone and take responsibility, but at this mont the anger in Elder Mu’s heart dissipated sowhat.
His tone was still relatively mild, but his eyes were sowhat stern as he looked at Lu Jingchen, "Are you really married to my Qiaoqiao?"
Lu Jingchen’s expression remained unchanged, his gaze steadfast as he looked at Elder Mu and nodded, "We haven’t been married for long. I have always wanted to visit you, but due to so reasons I couldn’t co earlier. I am very sorry for that."
