Shu has been known for its many extraordinary people since ancient tis.
During ancient Shu, there were Can Cong, Yu Fu, Du Yu, and later the Eight Immortals of Shu, including Rong Chenggong, Li Er, Zhang Daoling, Dong Zhongshu, Yan Junping, Li Babai, Fan Changsheng, and Erzhu Cave.
But this is only a small part; there are also so remarkable people from the Mystical Sect that can only be glimpsed in anecdotal and strange records.
For instance, in "Youyang Zazu," it ntions an extraordinary person from Shu nad "Fei Ji Shi," who had blood-red eyes without pupils, remarkable dical skills, and was adept at using chickens for rituals, divination, and evil exorcism.
Then there’s the "Grey Robed Mad Monk."
Xing HePu was famous across the Four Seas, with many disciples. When asked who could inherit his mantle, Xing HePu remained silent for a while and said, concerning the "Grey Monk" of Shu, "I am no match for him, you’d best not provoke him."
Li Yan had heard of Xing HePu, one of the most formidable living Yin ssengers, who had fathod the mysteries of heaven and earth, possibly interacting with reincarnated Immortal Gods, and even able to avoid the "Heavenly Rules," protecting so Earth Immortals.
Li Yan was very interested in this person, searched various records, and was drawn to the accounts regarding the "Grey Robed Mad Monk."
This "Grey Monk" wasn’t well known, often wandering the streets and alleys of Chengdu, dressed in rags, acting mad and eccentric, also known as the "Grey Robed Mad Monk."
Rumor has it that provoking him would lead to mysterious deaths.
Others might see this as strange tales, but Li Yan felt that this "Grey Robed Mad Monk" might have inherited Xing HePu’s Hook Paper, possibly even more powerful.
However, this person was too enigmatic; no one knew his origins.
Li Yan was surprised to hear news of him here once more.
Unexpectedly, when asked about it, the Ei disciple Cui Song did not shy away but instead enthusiastically said: "Well, may I ask, old brother, how do you know about the ’Grey Robed Mad Monk’?"
Upon these words, everyone turned to look at the wealthy rchant.
Cui Song was a famous young hero near Wanzhou Fuling, but this "Grey Robed Mad Monk" was sothing they heard for the first ti.
The wealthy rchant paused in silence upon hearing this, clasped his fists to those nearby, and said: "I am not afraid of being laughed at when I ntion this matter."
"There is a rumor in my family; during the Tang Dynasty, my ancestors were from a prominent family in Chengdu Prefecture. One day, the Grey Monk ca to the door, spoke no words, just stood at the entrance, but the family clan leader was scared half to death, knelt in tears, begged for rcy, and then mysteriously died..."
"After that, the family fell apart completely, deteriorating greatly, only recently recovering a bit."
"I originally thought it was just a legend, but a few days ago on a ship, I happened to hear this matter and wanted to clarify it. Even if I hadn’t run into Young Hero Cui, I would have visited in person."
Upon hearing this, Li Yan was entirely convinced.
This Grey Monk was indeed a living Yin ssenger and had lived until now, if not an Earth Immortal, then a Rejuvenator.
"That can’t be right~"
Soone nearby exclaid in wonder: "Your ancestor was from the Tang Dynasty, but Young Hero Cui saw him recently. Could this person be an immortal?"
Everyone imdiately got excited upon these words.
"Whether he’s an immortal, I don’t know."
Cui Song suddenly turned serious, glanced around, and whispered: "But this matter must be told to everyone."
"Senior brother!"
The young girl from the opposite ship’s deck quickly erged from the cabin, frowned, and said: "Master is already angry, besides we went to check, there’s nothing there."
"Be careful not to let people say we’re spreading rumors and tarnishing the sect’s reputation!"
Li Yan heard this and quietly glanced over.
Earlier, soone had ntioned that these two were from the Dianyi Sect.
Ei is known to have "one tree blooms five flowers, five flowers support eight leaves."
These five flowers are Chengdu Huangling Sect, West Sichuan Qingcheng Sect, Northern Sichuan Iron Buddha Sect, Eastern Sichuan Qingniu Sect, Dianyi Sect.
They are now in Eastern Sichuan, among them Qingniu Sect in Fengdu, and Dianyi Sect in Fuling.
Fuling has the Dianyi Cave, located on the north bank of the Yangtze River, facing Fuling City across the river. During the Northern Song Dynasty, Cheng Yi carved "Yi" in the cave and authored "Yichuan Yi Chuan" in four volus, thus founding the Cheng family’s philosophy.
Dianyi Sect is related to it.
This sect is characterized by the integration of martial arts with "Yi," and its spells are renowned for divination using "The Book of Changes."
It seems these two ca to Wanzhou for another matter.
Sure enough, upon hearing the girl’s reminder, Cui Song clenched his fists fiercely and gritted his teeth: "The sect’s reputation is important, but the people’s safety is more important."
"If this matter is indeed my wild imagination, then I will let the sect handle it, but if I don’t speak it out, my heart is uneasy."
Saying this, he looked full of tears toward the ship, "Junior sister, I am sincere about you, if you do not wish to marry over this..."
"You... you are speaking nonsense again!"
The girl stomped her foot in anger and rushed back into the cabin.
Seeing this, Cui Song sighed deeply but without further interruption, he clasped his fists to those around him and said: "Fellow villagers, although I, Cui Song, have joined Dianyi, my roots remain in Wanzhou, I dare not conceal this matter."
"Just a few days ago, while running errands, I camped in the wild in a ruined temple during a stormy night, and in a dream, saw an old monk in a grey robe, who told that within Wanzhou’s Tiansheng City, hides a Drought Demon, ford from the battle’s yin sha resentnt after the death of the Great General of the Golden Tent Wolf Country."
"Now, this Drought Demon is about to form and break free; if no asures are taken to stop it, Eastern Sichuan will suffer three years of drought!"
"What?!"
Upon hearing this, soone was shocked.
In Eastern Sichuan, the region’s rolling hills are prone to droughts and lack of rain, hence the sensitivity to the words "drought" and "rain."
Mountain farmlands are called "sky-gazing fields," "thunder-god fields," and various rain-praying practices are widespread.
In cities throughout the region, the importance of the Dragon King Temple rivals that of the City God Temple.
Hearing about a "Drought Demon," how could they not be fearful?
However, so people burst into laughter and tears, "Young Hero Cui, recently there have been drought demon rumors in the city, so it was you, the governnt just issued a notice stating it’s false."
