Capítulo 1456: Chapter 1456: Raising the Banner of Rebellion

Ye Shikai faced the battle calmly, with wheat growing on both sides of the river. These attackers were hiding in the wheat field, taking advantage of the cavalry being halfway across the river to strike in the middle and shoot volleys of arrows, intending to throw the cavalry into chaos without a fight. However, Ye Shikai also noticed that most of these attackers were dressed as civilians, indicating that they were likely local bandits or rebel forces.

“Troops who have already crossed the river, follow . The remaining troops, cross the river quickly,” Ye Shikai shouted, and dozens of riders beside him charged into the wheat field like tigers. After all, they had been trained by the Wolf Clan instructors and had combat experience. Even though the cavalry unit was caught in a sudden attack, they could handle it with ease. Moreover, they were only facing rebels with outdated weapons and broken armor. The cavalry quickly regrouped and charged, causing heavy casualties among the rebels, who began to retreat. At the sa ti, the constant stream of cavalry crossed the river, charging towards the direction of the rebels.

“Brothers, it’s a plain outside the wheat field. They can’t escape. Charge and defeat them,” Man Cang shouted loudly. Hundreds of cavalry pursued them relentlessly. The rebels, being few in number, couldn’t withstand the assault and soon scattered.

“Kill!”

“Attention everyone, rember to keep prisoners alive,” Ye Shikai shouted. These rebels must have calculated their crossing ti to ambush them in the wheat field. However, they underestimated the cavalry’s strength, and their sneak attack backfired on them.

“Yes, troops, listen to orders. Flank them from both sides and surround this group,” Shangguan Jian commanded. The cavalry imdiately flanked them from the left and right, encircling them. With horses having four legs and humans only two, they couldn’t outrun the cavalry. Within no ti, they were completely surrounded.

“Disarm and surrender.”

“Surrender quickly.”

The troops surrounded the group and shouted loudly. Faced with defeat, the group naturally wouldn’t fight to the death, throwing their spears and bows to the ground and raising their hands to surrender to the troops.

“Arrest them all,” Shangguan Jian ordered, and the troops dismounted and went forward to take them all away.

“Wait a mont.” At this ti, Ye Shikai suddenly shouted, “Who among you is the leader?”

Everyone exchanged glances, faces filled with terror. Openly attacking the Qin Army was a cri of rebellion, and once caught, they faced either death or severe punishnt.

“I’ll say it again, who is the leader,” Ye Shikai shouted loudly, startling everyone.

“No need to investigate, it’s .” At this ti, a burly man stepped forward from the crowd.

“Who are you, and why did you attack my troops?” Ye Shikai asked coldly.

“Damn you, Qin Country’s lackeys, all accomplices. Sooner or later you’ll be overthrown,” the burly man cursed, and Man Cang stepped forward, delivering a heavy punch to his abdon, silencing him.

“So, you are indeed the local rebel forces,” Ye Shikai said calmly.

“What of it?”

“Old Ye, according to the law, rebels can be executed on the spot. We’ve just entered East County, and already lost dozens of brothers. They must pay the price,” Shangguan Jian said furiously, wanting to kill these n to avenge the cavalry troop.

“Yes, General, kill them to avenge our brothers,” a group of brothers echoed.

“Everyone, quiet down,” Ye Shikai shouted.

“We are new here. These matters should be left to the Commander to decide,” Ye Shikai wasn’t in a rush to vent by killing them. After all, this was East County, and he had many things to investigate. Moreover, the rebel forces in East County were not just this group. Even killing them would only be a temporary solution.

“Sir, bringing these n along will not only add mouths to feed but will also slow our progress. Best to kill them,”

“No need for more discussion, this is my military order. Any further argunts will be punished by military law.”

“Yes.”

“Yes.”

“Also, injured brothers need imdiate dical attention. If there is a shortage of dicine, buy them from the nearest county. If there are seriously wounded, send them directly to the county for treatnt,” Ye Shikai instructed.

“Don’t worry, Old Ye. I’ll take care of it,”

Late night, in the tent.

“Sir, I’ve investigated thoroughly. East County is just a ss,” Xue San returned with a squad of light cavalry to the camp and went straight to Ye Shikai’s tent.

“Xue San, what’s going on?” Shangguan Jian asked.

“Since last year’s autumn harvest, rebel forces in East County have sprung up like mushrooms after rain. In the county where we are now camped, there are several rebel groups, constantly opposing the official army. anwhile, the Prefectural Governor is repressing them heavily, making life unbearable for the people,” Xue San reported breathlessly to the two.

“General ng sent us here to fight the rebels to the death,” Xue San complained.

“To soldiers, fighting is the duty. General ng has promoted us considerably; obviously, it’s not to let us enjoy peaceful days sitting in the county,” Shangguan Jian retorted. “Since the rebels want to rebel, let’s see who can laugh at the end.”

The Qin people admired martial courage, with military achievents determining nobility. On the battlefield, cutting off heads could earn wealth, land, and status. Therefore, the Qin Army contained many soldiers like Shangguan Jian, eager for war, hoping to suppress the East County rebels. Killing two birds with one stone, it could stabilize people’s lives and earn military rits.

“Gentlen, it seems we’ve co to East County not for peaceful days. Pass my order: in future marches, scouts must be sent out to investigate before proceeding. I don’t want today’s oversight to happen again.”

“Yes.”

……………

On the next day, during the march, Ye Shikai kept pondering matters in his mind. They were about to reach East County, and everything was just as Mona said before. He beca a General of Qin Country and was transferred from He Nei County to East County. Unfortunately, she didn’t say much at the ti, nor did she ntion what would happen to Ye Shikai afterwards.

“Old Ye, we’ve been marching for three days. No movent along the way. If nothing unexpected happens, we should reach Pu Yang County tomorrow,” Shangguan Jian reported.

“Alright, tell the brothers not to relax. Only when we reach East County can we consider ourselves safe.”

“Yes.”

“Report.” Suddenly, a scout ca galloping to report. “A group of Qin Soldiers has been spotted ahead, about several hundred with wounded among them, seemingly in retreat.”

“What?” Everyone was shocked. Several hundred Qin Soldiers retreating ant they encountered sothing, presumably an attack by rebels, and probably a large number at that. Being so close to East County, how could there be so many rebels.

“Troops, move fast. Let’s go see,” Ye Shikai shouted loudly.
