Capítulo 1486: Chapter 1486: Repelling the Robbers

“Everyone listen up, take the straw and hay from the carts and spread them all over the road ahead.” Ye Shikai thought of a plan, instructing everyone to move the dry grass and hay down from the carts and lay it ahead. He intended to ignite the hay to form a fla barrier, blocking the approaching robbers. Initially, these were ant for the horses to eat, but right now, there’s no ti to worry about that. Burning the hay is better than burning the grain.

“Quickly, everyone start working together.” The crowd cooperated and quickly piled up a mound of hay as tall as a person. anwhile, distant figures started erging; it seed the robbers were catching up.

Ye Shikai recalled a cart of fine wine that was originally intended for guests at a wedding banquet; now it seed it would only be for soup.

“People, open all these bottles and pour the wine onto the hay.” Ye Shikai commanded.

“What, General, how much should we pour?”

“All of it.”

“Yes, sir.”

Watching jar after jar of fine wine being poured onto the hay truly felt like a waste. Not only did Ye Shikai feel pained, but even the soldiers and laborers were deeply distressed. Yet, for survival, they had no choice but to make this sacrifice.

“Hurry up, pour it all over.” Ye Shikai urged, knowing that the liquor soaking the dry hay would only need a spark to ignite instantly.

“Wait, leave so behind.” Ye Shikai suddenly had a good idea and quickly stopped the soldiers beside him, retrieving the remaining dozen jars.

“Sir, what are you planning?” a curious soldier asked.

“Everyone listen up; pour this wine into smaller vessels and plug the bottle mouths tightly with cloth, awaiting my order.” Ye Shikai took out a cup-sized vessel, poured liquor into it, and stuffed the bottle mouth with cloth. He intended to make improvised “Molotov cocktails.” Though this liquor wasn’t high-proof alcohol, it should work for this urgent “guest performance” as a combustible device.

“Yes, sir.” Although confused, the crowd followed orders.

A short while later.

The crowd watched the approaching robbers, hearts beating tensely. Sotis, terrifying things aren’t suddenly appearing, but inching closer, step by step. This creates imnse psychological pressure on the defenders, and those with poor ntal endurance might break at the last mont and flee.

“Everyone, don’t panic, follow my orders.” Ye Shikai constantly shouted to reassure everyone, especially the unard laborers who never experienced battlefield nor killed chickens or ducks, much less people. Ye Shikai needed to continually comfort them.

“Look ahead, the grain is right there, brothers, charge!” At this mont, a group of robbers ca rushing, holding long spears and knives, wearing a motley of clothes, so in torn light armor. Under the leader’s guidance, they directly charged at the hay.

“Now’s the ti.” Ye Shikai took out a torch and hurled it forward.

Whoosh.

The flas instantly ignited the liquor-soaked hay, like a fiery dragon, igniting all the hay in an instant…

Aaaaaaa.

Robbers on the hay were swallowed by raging flas, screaming in agony, continuously flailing to shake off the fire, so rolling on the ground desperately to extinguish the flas, while others used kettles to put out the fire to no avail, soon several fell dead.

The burning hay ford a fla barrier several ters high; heavens seed to “favor” Ye Shikai as a northwest wind blew, directing black smoke towards the enemy troops.

“Haha, General, this tactic is brilliant, they can’t even take a single step closer now.” The crowd, seeing this, rejoiced greatly, they were nurically inferior, naturally had to take advantage of favorable conditions including ti and place.

“Everyone stop speaking, listen to my orders.” Ye Shikai shouted. The wind was strong enough, with rolling black smoke directed at the enemy below, likely suffocating them half to death.

“Do we have any more hay?” Ye Shikai inquired.

“Reporting to the General, we have two carts left.”

“Good, have so soldiers add more hay, do not let the flas die.” Ye Shikai commanded.

“Yes, sir.” A few guards picked up the remaining hay and threw it into the flas.

“Listen up, once the hay is burned out, throw the grain in to burn.” Looking at the grain in the cart, which had so straw inside that could serve as fuel but would also burn up the wheat.

“What, General, this is all grain, we can’t burn it.” Many of the laborers, upon hearing this, were heartbroken and shook. For the people, food is as important as heaven, and for common folks, simply eating enough was a grand wish. But now Ye Shikai was ordering them to burn the grain, this felt akin to modern people burning money, it pierced the heart…

“Do you want to die? Everyone listen up, this is my command, once the hay is burnt out, burn the grain.” Ye Shikai shouted, despite their desire to persuade him, seeing his determined resolve, they said no more, they wanted to survive too.

In truth, acquiring the grain cost Ye Shikai dearly, his heartache was substantial.

“Everyone, take cover behind the grain bags and carts, don’t expose your bodies.” As if suddenly rembering sothing, Ye Shikai shouted, the crowd quickly took cover. Shortly after speaking, dozens of arrows flew through the flas and struck the stockpiled grain bags, shielding the people behind from a deadly shot.

“More arrows will co, everyone hide well, don’t show your heads.” Ye Shikai shouted, as people huddled behind carts, using grain bags to form a barricade.

“As expected, General read the situation right; if we were outside, we’d be shot full of holes by now.” The crowd of laborers marveled on seeing this. Ye Shikai knew that since the bandit troops couldn’t pass, they’d shoot arrows; thankfully, they had so many grain bags.

“Sir, look ahead.” Soone pointed forward, shouting loudly. The bandit troops used arrows as cover, preventing others from replenishing hay, taking the chance to use long spears to flick away the burning hay, trying to create a path.

“The ti is now.” Ye Shikai took out the previously made “improvised incendiary device,” lit the cloth at the bottle’s mouth with a torch, then swung his arm and forcefully threw it.

The bottle shattered, the liquor inside splashed onto the robbers, ignited by the flas…

Aaaa.

Only a series of harrowing screams ensued, the incoming robbers were engulfed in flas, imdiately falling to the ground.
