433: Chapter 433: The Strange Fortune Teller 433: Chapter 433: The Strange Fortune Teller “Arguing?
This is much more sophisticated than a re argunt,” Ye Shikai shook his head, seemingly in self-mockery.
“Hey, Uncle, now you’re playing word gas with .” Han Ruoyao teased with a laugh, “Any argunt that doesn’t aim for divorce can be defined as showing off affection.”
“I really have sothing urgent for this trip to Europe; don’t overthink it.”
“Tsk, I saw Qingyu in tears; it must be sothing to do with a woman.”
Ye Shikai sighed lightly.
For the sake of love but not the kingdom, if he could exchange the position of the Netherworld King for the safety of his loved ones, he wouldn’t hesitate or waver.
But now, he must brave dangers for a woman.
……………
Yanjing Airport.
“Alright Uncle, you’ve arrived.
Rember to make it a quick trip and co back soon,” Han Ruoyao parked the car in the basent and waved to Ye Shikai.
“Okay, you should head back now; I’ll be back before long,” Ye Shikai nodded.
He didn’t bring much with him to Europe since he was going on a rescue mission.
Traveling light was the way to go.
Approaching the airport entrance, Ye Shikai suddenly spotted a crowd not far away, seemingly watching sothing.
“Since I still have two and a half hours, why not join the crowd for a bit?” Ye Shikai spoke as he squeezed into the throng.
“Hey, hey, hey, be gentle,” an old man’s voice ca from the center of the crowd, and he was being held up by a few security guards.
“This is an airport, not a place for your fortune-telling.” One of the guards looked impatient, trying to drive the old man away.
After all, this was Yanjing’s international airport, involving city appearance; a fortune-teller setting up shop here was unreasonable.
“I ca here today to seek a benefactor; how can you be so rude.” Dressed in a grey robe, with white socks on black cloth shoes, and a cloth cap on his head, he had the look of a Taoist fortune-teller, but the old man didn’t wear sunglasses and did not appear to be pretending to be blind.
“A benefactor, then find your benefactor sowhere else.
I don’t have ti to waste with you.” A guard waved his hand, signaling his subordinates to shoo the old man away.
“Oh, really, such rudeness, you whipper-snapper.” The old man was chased to a secluded spot, at least he wouldn’t block the traffic anymore.
The surrounding crowd laughed and all dispersed.
As the crowd dispersed, the old man began fiddling with the trinkets in his hands.
He had a dilapidated tri-wheeled cart with two white flags, and the paper in the middle was marked with a black and white Tai Chi symbol.
Isn’t this just a swindler?
Passers-by occasionally walked past the stall, glancing curiously, then shook their heads and left.
They’ve seen such tricks too often to be interested.
“Alas, business is tough,” the old man lanted and chuckled wryly, then continued to fiddle with the items on the stall.
Ye Shikai looked at the old man and felt an inexplicable interest in his stall; his body unconsciously moved closer.
“Oh, sir, you must be here for a fortune-telling, co, please have a seat.” The old man saw soone approaching and imdiately greeted them enthusiastically.
When he saw Ye Shikai’s face, a flicker of surprise flashed in his eyes, followed by a relieved smile, but Ye Shikai didn’t notice the change.
“Old man, how’s business?” Ye Shikai smiled, not directly asking for a fortune-telling, but instead striking up a conversation with the old man.
“Don’t ntion it, business is tough.
Nowadays science is in vogue, I’m just scraping by with a little money,” the old man said self-deprecatingly.
“Mysticism is a field of knowledge, but I don’t understand it very well,” Ye Shikai waved his hand, “Old man, could you do a reading for ?”
“Of course, but you have to pay first,” the old man pointed to a sign below, his smile deviously revealing.
“One reading for a thousand, one…
thousand.” Ye Shikai was taken aback; this old man really thought he was so deity, charging so much for a single reading.
“Old man, you sure are confident,” Ye Shikai joked, “That’s a whole thousand bucks.
Other people would save that to better their lives, not spend it carelessly on you.”
“Young man, your statent is not very pleasant; you’ve only got half of it right,” the old man smiled and spoke, not minding Ye Shikai’s comnt.
“Which half?” Ye Shikai was interested and wanted to hear how this “expert” would justify himself.
“I do charge a lot for readings, even outrageously so, but I declare my prices upfront before starting, not like those who fleece their clients, quoting the price after the fact.”
After listening, Ye Shikai nodded; if the old man was truly just a swindler, he wouldn’t have disclosed such a staggering price in advance.
“Then old man, aren’t you afraid the price will scare all custors away?” Now Ye Shikai finally understood why nobody approached him for fortune-telling.
Who likes to be a sucker…
“Ha-ha, I only do readings for those who are fated,” the old man said.
“What do you an by that?” Ye Shikai inquired curiously.
“Jiang Taigong fishes for the willing.
I don’t go looking for custors; I wait for them to co to ,” the old man explained with a smile, “You finding today ans you’re a person of destiny.”
“Sir, since you are my person of destiny, then allow to offer you a complintary reading first.
You can see if it rings true for you, how about that?” the old man offered with a smile.
“Then thank you very much, Master,” Ye Shikai thought for a mont and then happily nodded.
“Sir, covered in traveler’s dust and eyes gleaming, but judging by your accent, you must be a native of Yanjing born and bred.”
“Therefore, sir, you must be a traveler who is often abroad.
The lingering dust suggests you’ve only returned to Yanjing recently, no more than three months at most.
Am I right?”
“Mm, old man, what you said is indeed true,” Ye Shikai nodded.
“A traveler often abroad usually carries an air of world-weariness, but you, sir…
not only carry world-weariness but also a hint of…” the old man trailed off, stood up, and leaned forward to sniff at Ye Shikai’s clothes.
“Killing intent,” the old man whispered in Ye Shikai’s ear.
“Ha-ha, sir, you are too tense.
Co now, let’s relax a bit.” The color drained from Ye Shikai’s face, as if a loud bang exploded in his ear; the old man’s words left him deeply unsettled, and under the fierce sun, cold sweat broke out on Ye Shikai’s forehead.
“Old man, here is a thousand yuan.
May I ask you to do a reading for ?” Ye Shikai silently took out a thick stack of banknotes from his wallet, laying it on the table.
“Of course, would you like to know about your life’s path or romance?” the old man accepted the stack of cash with a smile and tucked it into a little box.
“I want both,” Ye Shikai had barely finished speaking when he reached for his wallet again, only to be stopped by the old man.
“Sir, I have principles; I only read once per person in a single day.
You can’t have both fish and bear’s paw,” the old man said with a smile, sipping his tea faintly.
“I can add more money, ten thousand, even a hundred thousand.”
